PROMOTING MALAYSIA

1.There was a time when Malaysia was unknown to the rest of the world.

2.When Malaysians went abroad and people ask where they came from, the reaction to their reply that they were from Malaysia, almost always evoke the comment, “Where is that?”

3.But today most foreign people would know where Malaysia is. They would even know that Malaysia succeeded in changing itself from an agricultural country to an industrial country. And today 24 million tourists visit Malaysia in one year.

4.All these did not just happen. The tourist industry has become a big contributor to the Malaysian economy because of action taken to make Malaysia well known.

5.When RM 280 million was spent to build the Sepang F1 race-track there was a lot of criticism. It seemed like a waste of money as the sport was not excelled by Malaysians.

6.One of the objectives was to promote Malaysia as a tourist destination and to showcase its attraction as a place to invest.

7.The race was watched by more than 100,000 people including almost 30,000 foreign spectators. But more importantly the race was broadcast live by more than 300 TV stations worldwide. It is estimated that more than 300 million people watch the F1 race all over the world. They not only see the car racing but also many aspects of Malaysia’s development and facilities. For three days the TV audience saw beautiful Malaysia and a lot of Malaysia’s development.

8.Advertising on Japanese TV is expensive, costing a million Ringgit for a three minute clip. But during F1 race Malaysia gets 2 hours a day for three days free TV coverage. Throughout the world 300 TV stations cover the race without our having to pay a single cent.

9.If we add up the advertising value for three days on 300 TV stations worldwide, the cost would be much more than the total cost of building the track. Multiply it with 15 years and the publicity value of that track will add up to billions.

10.If in addition we add the spending of some 30,000 tourists to see the race, the contribution to the national economy would justify the RM280 million we spent building the F1 race track.

11.These events, the F1 race, the Tour de Langkawi bicycle race, LIMA and a host of other events earn the nation a lot of money, far more than the cost of holding this events.

12.That is why I am saddened when the Government did not help out the organisers of the recently held Red Bull Air Race in Putrajaya. This race is held all over the world. Millions watch this race. The majority would be locals but many loyal followers travel to watch the race. The advertising value is very high, yet the cost of holding it is low.

13.The organisers cannot really make money from the event. But it is good advertising for the country.

14.The Government has contributed a small sum. But it should help more. And so should the big corporations.

I wrote this song for you, to remember you and thank you. Nothing else more I can say because everything has written in the lyric. People say “music is beyond language”. The song is sung in mandarin, which is my mother tongue. Like this, I can expressing my personal feeling to the fullest what do you mean to me and some of us-the Malaysian. I did the lyric translation. This is a one man show music performance. I hope you will like the song.

  5. Angry Birds Activity Park Johor Bahru

  6. As Salam Tun,

Probably can next Red Bull race use promoter mention by Abu for tahun melawat Malaysia 2014 !!!???

Indeed Tun is superb salesman , I was one those fortunate Tun brings along when he goes for sales such to the CIS countries which I have learn a lot. Thanks Tun not belated yet as I can’t reach you before like this!

  7. I am a Singapore, and visits Malaysia very frequently for social and work.  I never fail to admire your country for what it offers, large land, tallest building, its tourist attractions, its ability to host major events, and its guts in wanting to be the first mover in anything they do.  It is this very competitive spirit that its people have, and more so its government that impresses me for the many successes it delivers.

I was at the Red Bull Air Race this May at Putrajaya – I made it a point to go there with my adult son as it is the first ever event of its kind in this part of the world, an event I  do not want to miss – being first of its kind.  I have been to many F1s, but never an air race. I  was hugely impressed with the entire show, and have only accolades for the event organizer for bringing this event in and for a spectacular display of organizational skills.

This Air Race has given Malaysia another huge milestone in hosting world class events, amongst many other firsts.  Not only has this put Malaysia on the world map for its ability to host world class events, it has huge economic impact and follow-on tourist dollars.  The benefits to Malaysia is unquantifiable.  Putrajaya skyline has also become more visible and now achieved worldwide iconic status.  I know our Singapore government is fully supportive of bringing F1 Night Race to Singapore and have hugely subsidized the host event organizer the cost of hosting the event for the same reasons it gave Singapore a huge boost in touristy attractions and tourism dollar.   Without governmental financial support no event organizer will be able to single handedly bring in a show of this scale. It is just impossible.  The key message is that the potential positive economic impact to the host country far outweighs the subsidies the government has put in.

We believe your government has recognized the significance of the Air Race to Malaysia’s attraction on the tourist calendar, and the enormous economic benefits thereafter.  At the post race media conference, we heard your Minister for Youth and Sports acknowledged the success of this race and the significant benefit this will have to Malaysia, promising assistance to the event organizer.  This is very encouraging.  They have sacrificed a lot to make Malaysia proud.  We hope all major Malaysia corporations and the Government will extend more financial help to the event organizer to meet current and future obligations so that the show can go on.

I will be at the next Air Race for sure, this time with our corporate clients and hope for the future success of this event.

    All the best,

    Kite Man

  9. You can take a horse to water, but you can’t force it to drink.

Malaysians have had a quantum leap from the glorified malarial swamp it was when I was growing up there in the 1960’s to the time the government of the Tun came into office. I still recall the incident when Khir Johari was sent to meet Lord Carrington at Subang. Carrington arrived in his VC 10 ahead of my BOAC from London where I was a student returning from my studies.

The English were outraged that a former colonial upstart had “snubbed” their foreign secretary to entertain and attend to a Japanese delegation (If my memory serves me well).
The Tun (again if my memory serves me well) said through one of his aides, that protocol did not require the PM to meet the foreign secretary of any country. Moreover the Japanese had come to invest where others were reluctant and that was more important (At least that was the gist of the message).

My late father told me then, make Bahasa your priority. The Malays are on the ascendancy. We laughed. But no for long.

Malaysia has since been transformed into a first world nation with all the mods an cons of a first world country plus some. There are those who have managed to keep up wth the pace physically, superficially and mentally. Others still only superficially with all the trappings but no understanding of what it is like to be in the 21st century.

The points made above are real and are cause for concern. But we can’t make people take up challenges, maintain our advances or keep up the pace of progress. We can’t. They either have t in them or they don’t.

And the current government after all the support we have given them by our actions and omissions must learn to do things guided by a vision. If they have no vision and the people who support them are equally blind, then of course it will gradually go to the dogs.
If there is one thing we can’t change it is change itself.

There are two types of people in this world. The doers and the spectators who watch the doers expecting things to happen just by cheering. The current government is not a doer.

The doers are those who will look at something and say why not as the Tun did during his tenure in office.

The current government is distinguished by its way of doing things which is by looking at a situation and saying “Why? not why not

  10. Tun

For Saudara Abu Aiya. When I first appeared on this Blog, I noticed that most Malaysians except those like mnm, dont be small minded, the rocket scientist from Singapore, hbt, yusof12, saxykorma etc – the ejects from the Ministry of Information, Singapore, could not see the wood from the trees – THAT THERE ARE HUGE DISCREPANCIES BETWEEN THE TRUTH AND FACTS OF THE REAL SINGAPORE SINCE 1959 AND THE MAGIC SHOW OF THICK SMOKE AND BROKEN MIRRORS as produced by the brilliant Lee Kuan Yew with his 26 failed Policies for Singapore and further strengthened by him WITH A HUGE DOLLOP OF SINGAPORE’S ONLY NATURAL RESOURCE- BLUFFOLOGY !

Most Malaysian Chinese and all Singaporeans are scared of the brilliant Lee Kuan Yew. When his name is mentioned in private gatherings in Singapore, the participants would glance backwards nervously. Malaysian Chinese try to brush away the topic by talking about something else. Stupid.

The brilliant Lee Kuan Yew based his ENTIRE CAREER ON HIS BRILLIANCE IN GETTING A DOUBLE STARRED FIRST IN LAW FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF CAMBRIDGE IN 1947 ! It is alleged he obtained a Third Class in the London Bar Finals whilst his wife had 3rd place out of possibly 150 candidates. My wife was placed 7th out of 700 much later.

MALAYSIA BOLEH ! MALAYS BOLEH ! ALL MALAYSIANS BOLEH !

  11. Salam Tun.

    PROMOTING MALAYSIA

While Tun is trying his best to promote Malaysia, our leaders are sleeping with the enemy, so to speak, to sell the country.

What Tuan Mubarak said is true. Refer : https://thechedet.com/?p=464#comment-119146

If our leaders are not careful, the PAPigs in Singapore will SELL MALAYSIA hook, line and sinker via their marketing ploy, that is TPPA.

Singapore is very good at promoting their ‘services’ as the broker or middleman for giant Corporations. They are basically traders who channels businesses for a piece of commission – they even market our Rambutans as Singapore Lychees 🙂

The Singapore govt even copycat Tun’s authentic idea on F1-Racing and the Sepang success.

Our problem now is, we have almost useless Ministers who although do not agree with Tun, they themselves have nothing original to contribute to the nations image. Just look at the archaic promotions done by Nazri & Son for tahun melawat Malaysia 2014.

  12. Tun

The screaming headlines in the Singapore Government controlled Channelnewsasia today 30 August 2014.

    1. A banner advertisement in electric blue,’ WHAT MAKES YOUR WORLD BETTER.’ TNB MALAYSIA. It has always been at the back of my mind that not only are our fellow Malaysians brainwashed but one day they would be colonised by the one-street town of the Republic of Singapore like the British before them. And here is the evidence for the very first time. And the question I ask is, WHAT HAS A SINGAPORE GOVERNMENT OWNED CHANNELNEWSASIA GOT TO DO WITH TNB MALAYSIA apart from sponsoring an entity of a Government which loves to spy on us and its leader made all sorts of derisory remarks about the Malays. Has somebody gone mad ?

    2. A more interesting screaming headlline in the same edition of the Channelnewsasia, ‘ CHINA ANNOUNCES CUTS TO EXECUTIVE SALARIES AT STATE COMPANIES (GLCs).’ The cuts were down to 30% of the original salaries and expense accounts restricted. The executives are NOT CIVIL SERVANTS unlike our beloved Malaysia which CIVIL SERVANTS HAVE NO ACCOUNTABILITY AND NO OWNERSHIP and their salaries ranges from RM2 Millions to over RM10 Millions in country 35 times smaller than China !

MALAYSIA BOLEH ! MALAYS BOLEH ! ALL MALAYSIANS BOLEH !

  15. Assalamualaikum Tun.

Malaysia di sini lahirnya sebuah cinta.

Apa maksudnya jika sekali baca tanpa olahan? Tiada maksud apa apa.

Cuma perkataan CINTA yang membawa makna. Macam baca novel remaja.

Kita bercakap pasal negara selepas Lahad Datu dan MH. Tapi ungkapan CINTA seperti novel remaja.

Seperti janji ditepati, ramai orang tak dapat bantuan banjir dengarnya.

    Seperti Islam Hadhari.

Sayangilah tanahair bagaikan jasad dengan nyawa.

Diselitkan cerita sikit kebetulannya ketika van jenazah melintasi Yang diPertuan Agong kedengaran pintu rumah saya diketuk ketika kebetulannya saya sedang menunggu anak balik dari sekolah.

    Terima kasih Tun.

  16. Many incidents , exposer can make Malaysia known
Regardless We need to have a secure moderate healthy happy ahead

  17. DEAR TUN,

PROBLEM CAN BE SOLVED.. JUST GRANT A PILOT LICENCE TO THE SPORT MINISTER.
SPONSORSHIPS WILL BE COMING. IRONICALLY EVERYTHING MUST COME WITH STRING ATTACHED.
ANYWAY, YOU MAKE MALAYSIA TO WHERE SHE IS NOW. AM PROUD TO BE CALL A MALAYSIAN AND WE ARE WELL ACCCEPTED AND RESPECTED EVERYWHERE.

MAY ALLAH BLESS YOU & FAMILY.

  18. Dearest YAB Tun,

Tun (as PM) was once called ‘the best SALESPERSON in Malaysia’.

Sadly, our current leaders at national level do not have Tun’s ability to think as business people. Most of them, ‘pendek akal…’. They are not able to see hidden profits.

Thanks Tun for everything. You are still the best PM.

*** May Allah SWT bless Tun and family ***

  19. Salam Tun.

    1. After all your amazing hard work at developing and marketing Malaysia, those who took over your PM seat are bent to “SELL” the country very cheap to the foreigners.

    2. It is similar to a situation where one speculates a potential decline in the stock value and begin to “short-selling”. Is the Malaysia economy so weak and really going downhill that fast, that is causing fund managers betting and waiting to make a scoop on its downside? or there is an insider trading going on within the govt dictated by the likes of Soros and Rothschilds.

    3. Under Pak Lah we saw how ownership of landbank in Iskandar and Johor Baru Baharu, and KTM’s in Singapore exchanged hands.
3.1 We also witnessed how a convicted corrupter cum sodomite was let loose prematurely.
3.2 The cancellation of development projects planned by Tun.

    4. Under Najib, we are about to witness the selling of our MAS, Silterra and then perhaps falling into Singapore’s TPPA trap ( I wonder what the hell is Tok Pa negotiating for?)
4.1 Tons of money transferred to offshore banks in the Cayman Islands for unknown development projects.
4.2 Heavy investment via shady figures with exotic names who socialise with Paris Hilton and Arab princes in the Hollywood scene.

    5. Like the methodology of Idris Jala and Khalid Ibrahim, who sold assets only to show profit under their management and leadership, the two PMs who came after you also dont have much faith in the country and its people. In fact, they undermine all the achievements that Tun have brought to the country, exactly like what the Opposition want them to do.

    6. I noticed that the BN govt under Najib now, is becoming a hidden enemy to everything that UMNO stands for and is designed to kill UMNO softly under the guise of liberalism and moderation. UMNO is in the govt’s sabotage plan to further a foreign agenda.

    7. The Malays have been moderate all these while and they need not be pushed around just becos of their hospitable nature. The Chinese need not be too greedy and afraid becos never in hundred years will the Malay ever come close to achieve the 30% equity. Even within that percentage more than half are JVs and Ali Baba setups that benefits the Chinese business community.

    8. So, in the spirit of the “Hungry Ghost Festival” let us all Malaysian commit ourselves to be more generous and accommodating towards one another. As Tun always remind us, and I would like to put it in these words – “Sharing is Caring”. Let us not copy the ways of the Ikan Yu @ Sharks of the Singapore PAPigs who are always on the prowl and hungry for a kill. Let us not be their victim !

    MERDEKA ! … MERDEKA ! … MERDEKA !

    Thank you Tun Mahathir
    without you,
    what would have we become?

  20. Salam Tun,

    Thanks Tun,

  21. Salam Tun,

I have a nagging feeling that is surely felt also by millions of Malaysians that we have quite a few headless chickens running the country who don’t have a clue about strategic planning.

    DAPshit@PKRloosebutts

  22. Tun,

You are a very good businessman. Your thinking is beyond many leaders, ministers and bankers. Many want money or profit first other things later. You still the best lah!

Thanks for making Malaysia a great nation.
