GOVERNMENT

1. We are seeing some strange things happening in Europe. This continent of rich developed countries is going through afinancial and economic crisis that resists attempts to turn it around and recover.

2. Several countries of Europe are actually going bankrupt. Greece is bankrupt. Now Spain is practically in recession. Reports indicate that Portugal and Italy are also in deep financial trouble. Even the UK and France are in trouble.

3. Where did they go wrong? It is important to know the reasons for their decline because we who are fond of copying the Europeans might be going the same way.

4. I am not an economist of course. Neither am I a financial expert. But as a layman I noticed certain things which may have a bearing on the decline of Western nations and the United States of America.

5. Simply put the decline is due largely to living beyond their means. In other words they are spending more money than they actually have or earn.

6. Younger people may not be aware of it but there was a time when all the white goods, machinery and motor vehicles that we bought were from Europe and America. Today you hardly see any of them. We now buy everything from Japan, Korea and China. The products of Europe and America are too expensive and often of poorer quality that we just don’t buy them.

7. Their high cost is due to their paying their workers wages many times higher than what they should be paid for the productivity level they achieve. They also reduce working hours per day, lesser number of working days per week. They give long holidays to their workers, high overtime allowance, generous pensions and medical care etc.

8. Even then their workers are not satisfied. They go on strike, which actually increases the cost of production. They may be given what they demanded even if their employers could not afford. The price of their products or services had to be raised again even though they were already too high and uncompetitive.

9. Rapidly they lost the market. Unemployment increased and unemployment benefits had to be paid out by the Government just when revenue decreased due to decreasing sales of their products.

10. Countries like Germany may be able to sustain the high cost of production while maintaining high living standards. This is because Germans work hard and are productive. But the poorer countries of Europe such as Greece, which tries to live like the rich, cannot. So they borrowed money.

11. We can borrow if we can invest for greater return in order to repay. When we borrow in order to just spend, we will never be able to repay. What can happen to individuals who borrow in order to spend can also happen to countries. They go bankrupt.

12. Is there a lesson in this for Malaysia? I think there is. We in Malaysia like to live well. If we cannot pay for it then we can ask the Government to pay. We believe the Government has unlimited amounts of money to pay for everything.

13. At the same time we want tax rates to be reduced. As for the tolls they should be abolished. We seem unaware that when we reduce or abolish tolls, the Government has to compensate the operators. What this means is that Government expenditure would increase just when revenue decreases. Abolishing toll does not mean we don’t pay. Through the Government we will be paying indirectly. The sad thing is that people who do not use the expressways will also pay. With tolls, only the users pay.

14. The opposition is promising increases from 5% to 20% of gross profit to be paid to the states where oil is produced. At 5% these states are already getting more than what other states get from the Federal revenue. Imagine the amount at 20%. The fact is that the oil is found in Malaysia and all Malaysians must benefit from it.

15. Then the opposition parties demand for higher education to be free for everyone. Do away with PTPTN. As far as I know only Germany, the richest country in Europe provides free tertiary education.

16. Taking all Ministries together, Malaysia spends almost 25% of its budget on education. No other country in the world developed and developing, allocate this much. Of this a very substantial portion has always been for scholarships.

17. But such is the demand for education in Malaysia that there are not enough scholarships for the deserving. Government had to launch a new scheme involving loans to cater for those who are qualified but cannot afford. The terms are very generous as the interest rate and repayment scheme permit repayment after they begin to earn an income. The loans are greatly subsidised by the Government.

18. The opposition can promise to remove all payments by the people, but all the expressways, education service and the amenities/infrastructure will have to be paid by someone. We think of the Government as some sugar daddy with unlimited funds. It is not. Government money is in fact our money acquired through taxes of all kinds. Reducing tax will mean the Government has less money, and forcing the Government to pay for all our needs will lead us to bankruptcy. That is what happens to Greece and the other European countries.

19. We are a democratic country whatever our detractors may say. The people have the power to choose their Government. Power corrupts and the right to choose who should govern the country is also a potent kind of power.

20. That power can be used to threaten the parties wishing to contest in elections. The incumbent Government is most exposed to this threat. Under threat it may forget prudence in the management of our finances. It can lead to the Grecian problem.

21. The opposition doesn’t care. For them winning the election is the only objective. Beside when they form the Government they can forget promises.

22. Remember how President Obama of the “greatest democracy in the world”, promised to close down Guantanamo detention camp two days after his installation as President. Well Guantanamo is still there.

23. The opposition will certainly forget much more easily than Mr Obama.

    THE PRESIDENT OF AMERICA
    I SEE HIM AS MR.RIGHT
    HE SPEAKS VERY WELL

    NOW I AM DISAPPOINTED
HE SPEAKS WELL AND HE A FAST LEARNER TO LIE
    HE LIED WELL TOO
    LIKE THE GUATANAMA
    THE WAR IN IRAQ

  2. 20. To some people, I am behind time as they are now talking about getting a bigger pie. A reasonable share of economic pie is no longer relevant.

    21. We have to put a thought on their notion. With a bigger pie, the economic gap will be exponential. Thus, having a reasonable share is still relevant in getting a bigger pie.

    22. I agree that we should not blindly follow the Europeans. In London, for instance, the train drivers are given special bonuses months before the Olympics so as to get the assurance from the union not to go on strike during the games.

    23. Meanwhile, I could not find the rationale of placing our tourism office at Trafalgar Square, London. The reason must be that the square is well known for hosting many events and it is a place where tourists and the locals normally visit.

    24. But many events are normally held beyond office hours, including weekends. This is when many tourists and locals are at the square. Unfortunately, our tourism office is closed during this time. There is no purpose of setting up an office at Trafalgar Square unless we extend our opening times.

    25. Every year, the government is sending a number of students to several universities in London. The cost of living in London is among the highest in the world. Every year, there are requests from the students for more allowances.

    26. Literally, the performance of the acclaimed top universities in London are no better than those of outside London. Up until now, London School of Economics (LSE) still could not help its country to effectively overcome the recession.

    27. It is better for us to send students to the universities located outside London. The cost of living is much lower. We will be able to save some capital outflow.

    28. Indeed, nothing much to gain from living in London. Like other metropolitan cities, people do not talk to each other. Most British in London are not English. They do not inherit fine English culture. Sadly, our students in London are learning from them. A smile is often responded with a straight face. We are seeing rude intellects in the making.

    29. I strongly suggest the government to have a second thought in sending students to London.

  3. 15. Our policies should be driven towards reducing the prices down so that many of us can afford their necessities without getting loans.

    16. There are attempts to drive certain prices down, at least to the competitive level. Among them is the introduction of Competition Law. But this law does not apply to property sector in which cartel is believed to be prevalent.

    17. The policies to help the Malays to engage in businesses are now disputed by the loud minority; although the grant of their citizenship has never been questioned. Responding to this dispute, many politicians and government servants are trying to phase out the policies. Little do they realize that when there are more players in the market, the prices will fall due to competition.

    18. Efforts to indirectly phase out Bumiputera policies are led by the people in the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI). Continuously, they try to enter international agreements which require the abolishment of such policies. Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) is an example. Little do we realize that what they are doing is harmful to the country as explained in your post titled TPP (https://thechedet.com/blog/?p=781).

    19. For paragraph 17 and 18, I may be labelled racist. A Malay is racist when he talks about helping the Malay. Whereas, other people are not racist as they are trying to help their own people. Interestingly, other people are not racist when they do not like the Malay getting a reasonable share of the economic pie.

  4. Dear Tun,

May I respond to MiddleAges who said

“Religion is a very personal matter. Amin Tan treats it like it is his matter to talk to God about me. Suka hati dia lah Tun. But i am of the opinion he is mad. Suruh saya mengucaplah, baca Quran lah. Susah orang macam ni Tun, buat saya sakit jiwa.

What is important is we contribute to society in a healthy way. Who cares what agama you preach. If you have money, i will even pray to you.”

    Dear MiddleAges,

I agree with you. This is a free country. There is no compulsion in Islam. ‘LAKUN DI NUKUN WALI YA DEEN’

    amin tan

  5. Tun

With your permission I seek to respond to HBT456 unwarranted personal remarks about me.

    For HBT456

Did you notice that the revised edition of ‘Malaysian Maverick’ has a new introductory chapter of over 20 pages to update the lst edition within a year ? This clearly illustrates that the author wrote many falsehoods (rubbish)without facts in the original edition. You know the saying by Prime Minister Curtin, ‘ Two Wongs don’t make a white !’

Now you should eat crow about your derisive comments about me without any reason, quote :-

    6. ” Comments written by the best ex-state Mubarak chan MP, honestly I don’t know what he is trying to say via his excellency in English language ”

    7. ” This kind of mentality and meritocracy are not accepted by Harvard University.”

    8. ” Why? ”

First, I was born in the house built by my father which was the old Istana Negara Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur. For a whole lifetime, I never tell anyone.

Second, my elder sister married the brother of the First Finance Minister of Malaya, Tun H.S. Lee. For a whole lifetime, I never tell anyone.

Third, my elder brother married the only sister of Lee Kuan Yew your beloved icon and hero. For a whole lifetime, I never tell anyone.

On your beloved icon and hero, Lee Kuan Yew, I never believed in his political methods and behaviour from the very first day in October 1951.

I respect Tun Mahathir Mohamad for his compassion which was fortuntely or unfortunately, ( he is a trained doctor, you know ) more than his predecessors and his awareness of our beloved Malaysia’s sovereignty, national interest and self-esteem.

Tun has now come out to put back with honour where Malaysia and its leadership rightly belongs, that is normally. No more foreign pols controlling major national media, or selling national assets cheap cheap to foreigners or little red ants controlling the vital organs of the dinosaur !

This is what it should be. Tun recognises his mistakes whereas your beloved icon and hero, Lee Kuan Yew has seldom done so.

In my whole life, I have never betrayed my country unlike those who make tons of money out of nowhere.

Unlike you, HBT456 who looked down on me, I always look up to people, big or small. I never say a bad word about others because I know the saying, ‘ There are always bigger and bigger mountains’.

And the mistakes of your beloved icon Lee Kuan Yew are now coming home to roost, one by one. Facts are facts.

Again I call to all the Malaysian Chinese to vote BN for a better Malaysia. Your destiny is in your own hands to benefit yourselves, your families and your friends and relatives. Do not worhsip false icons as heroes like HBT456. Your heroes are yourselves with self-esteem. We must stand together with all our compatriots to weather the forthcoming storm, if any, and build a better country thereafter.

We all walk and live in our beautiful beloved country Malaysia only once in our lifetime.

  6. Tun

I congratulate you on being honoured with the very distinguished Rafik Hariri UN-Habitat Memorial Award with the citation ‘ Malaysia saw considerable economic progress during Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s time.’

With your permission, for HBT456. My answers to HBT456 sarcasm :-

” 6. ‘Comments written by the best ex-state Mubarak chan MP, honestly, I don’t know what is he trying to say via. his excellency in English language.’ ”

” 7. ‘ This kind of mentality and meritocracy are not accepted by Harvard University.”

    “8. ‘ Why ? ‘

First, I dare say to you HBT456 you are just plain jealous of other people’s honest achievements which came through very hard work and talked without facts.

Second, I ( a Malaysian ) had better grades than your beloved icon Lee Kuan Yew at the entrance to the great University of Cambridge. He went into the lowest ranking only non-collegiate college through the back door. You go and read his book. I went through the 400 year old oak front door of Christ’s College, the best college out of 31, taking the competitive entrance examination with :-

    1. A personal letter of recommendation from the Chaplain to Queen Elizabeth II at Windsor Castle, United Kingdom because I did so well in school. The Chaplain was the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cambridge during your beloved icon, Lee Kuan Yew’s time.

    2. 100 marks each in Latin, Physics, Biology, Inorganic Chemistry and Organic Chemistry which I completed in 12 months.

    3. At the age of 28, I was appointed a Founder Trustee of the National Art Gallery Malaysia by our first Prime Minister, Tunku Abdul Rahman.

    4. At the age of 32, I was appointed to the Board of Trustees EPF, with the prominent P.P. Narayanan by our first Prime Minister Tunku Abdul Rahman.

    5. At the age 36, (youngest to this day) I was appointed to the Board of Directors, Bank Negara Malaysia by our distinguished Prime Minister Tun Abdul Razak.

    6. In 1973, the late Tun Tan Siew Sin offered me his own seat of Batu Berendam, Melaka with the post of Deputy Minister of Finance.

And finally, the world famous Smithsonian Institution, Washington DC appointed me as an Adviser, the first Asian ever appointed to this day.

HBT456, please treat everyone normally with respect and do not make sarcastic remarks on matters you are not familiar with.

I bear you no ill will and forgive you since you said you will vote BN – at heart you are a good person !

I am not boasting because I am now nearly 100 years old and have lived normally and help others my whole life.

You have never heard of me. Right ?

I am exceedingly happy and satisfied.

I therefore repeat my call to all Malaysian Chinese to vote for the BN and as always be loyal to the Yang Di Pertuan Agong and Nation – And walk along the path of normality, peace, stability and prosperity. And do not be tempted by freebies thrown at you.

There is no such thing as a free lunch !

  7. Salam Tun,

I fail to see what Amin Tan is trying to tell me, but i am sure he means well, and so i will thank him anyway.

Malaysia has serious racial problems, but the government of the day do not wish to acknowledge this fact simply because it was built on the foundation of racism.

I am rather tired arguing with people who preaches that the BN formula works, they do not understand it cannot work forever, and my point is lets change it before it breaks, before the country breaks. But Malays are usually extremely poor in maintainability and sustainabilty matters, and so the counter argument is a simple “mana boleh”.

However, if the voice of majority says do not rock the boat, i have to oblige and move elsewhere. All i ask is to be heard, and your blog Tun is sufficient for this purpose, Unless i wish to move the earth, i will not need an office to voice things out.

Religion is a very personal matter.

If you have money, i will even pray to you.

    Thank You Tun

  8. Tahniah pada Tun Najib
    Atas kejayaan Felda

Walaupun saya masih kecewa kerana beliau menyerahkan
    Tanah KTM di Singapura

Namun Malaysia mesti tegas rundingan luar
Tidak dibenarkan mereka ambil kesempatan atas kita
    Membuat baik dengan bersebab
    Ada udang sebalik batu

Ohya jangan pula besok besok DAP
Mengaku kejayaan Felda adalah usaha DAP
    Serupa di Penang
    UMNO sudah membangun Penang
    Menjayakan Penang sebagainya

    Salam Tun,

May i ask where is HBT going when she said she is signing out please ? I find her input extremely valuable, and her posts a gem, although i fail to see why she supports BN.

BN people curse her and tell her to go back to motherland China, which i find an offensive, stupid and selfish thing to say.
Still, one has to be on the way to our own destiny, so may i take this opportunity to thank her for the precious lessons i gained from her comments.

I trust someone else will stand in for her as spokesperson for Chinese sounds, although i find her contributions difficult for anyone else to match.

    Thank You HBT

    Kalei Wanakam Middle Age,

    2. I am not going anywhere, and have decided long time ago to stay foot in my country or origin/birth to develop Malaysia to be accepted and respected by insiders and outsiders

    3. Middle Age and I do not work for money entity via gambling ala pak man telo by cheating our race and relatives in the kampungs, very stress and lifeless.

    4. You are a good man, Middle Age.

    5. After what you have gone through, there will be a time for you to make a wise decision.

    6. Comments written by the ex-best state Mubarak chan MP, honestly speaking, I don’t know what is he trying to say via his excellency in English Language.

    7. This kind of mentality and meritocracy are not accepted by Harvard University.

    8. Why?

    9. Harvard University is aimed to identify and educate students who understand the concept Free Market System 1st.

    10. The good students shall passed the degree.

    11. The ugly students shall be flunked by the professors when they realized these enrolled students are writing old rubbish models that are outdated.

    12. The bad students shall never be accepted for entry to the Harvard University.

    13. If we do not speak Bahasa Melayu, we are not Malaysian.

    14. If we do not speak our mother tongue, we are still Malaysian just like Americans.

    15. Masuk kandang lembu, mengaut.

    16. Masuk kandang kambing, mengembek.

    17. Gem or stone, Middle Age should know what to do if you love yourself 1st.

    18. If you don’t practice loving yourself 1st, you will never learn the art of loving your family.

    Take care, brother.

    Good day, YAB.

  10. Salam
YAB Tun Dr Mahathir Yg DiRahmati Allah swt.

    1. Pakatan Rakyat TIDAK LAYAK menjadi pemerintah
    2. PAS tolak Melayu yang bukan ahli PAS dan menipu DAP untuk dapat undi Cina
    3. PKR nak berkuasa dengan tidak bermaruah
    4. DAP hanya pentingkan Cina dan India.

    5. BN menjaga kesejahteraan semua rakyat Malaysia.

    6. BN layak memerintah Malaysia.

InsyaAllah BN menang…………….. Allahu Akbar… takbir taqwa.

  11. While i find it more of a nostalgia that you have somehow taken control of the BN Election Machinery, i find it rather troubling that democracy has not crossed your mind with regards to pushing your annointed son as MB Of Kedah. With the political landscape we have today and given the fact that Kedah is held by the opposition, i find it rather appalling that you have disregarded the current mandate by the people given to the current state government of Kedah. Parliament has not been disolved and you among all people should not be disrespecting the people’s wish for the current state government. Let the term end first instead of jumping the gun and making yourself look rather desperate.

Secondly, in this time and age, no reasonable mind should be judging a candidate based on his family’s involvements. Every child of yours in an independent adult and should not be made to conform to a certain manner simply because of political power and expectations. You however, have chosen that hypocricy and a conformity for the entire family is a must to ensure your son’s victory which again i must say that i find it rather feudal and shocking that you have gotten into the fancies of such nonsense. Mukhriz should be judged based on his own capabilities and credentials, not his father’s or his mother’s or any of his family members be they near of far.

The entire government seems to be paranoid due to very valid reasons i must say, never once did they feel so threatened and you are only making it worse. People will generally come out to vote with even more hatred simply because they are tired with your 23 years of rule and here you are clearly showing to the world that you are in control once again. If you have no trust in Najib anymore, who else is there worthy of Premiership? Do you think that the people are going to get carried away just because you are back in control and with the possibility of Najib’s removal???

Dato’Seri, you’ve really lost touch with today’s world and the every changing political landscape throught out the world. That is why you don’t seem to understand Najib and you are still shamelessly pressing for your mindset of parental governance which i must say will only fast forward UMNO-BN’s End.

What are you up to? Your government and party has become a laughing stock. Your major component parties cannot carry on the same ship simply because they no longer have the support of the majority from their race anymore. In a nutshell, this issue was shown at the last couple of years of your premiership, you resigned at the right time and your come back would make no significance. The people are no longer happy with your party, it’s about the party, not the Prime Minister alone. Do not think for a moment that the PM can make a difference. It’s the party which the people are very angry about. Yes, it’s Hatred and it’s your party who made us Hate.

So you can hold the GE now or later or next year, the results are inevitable. Time to acknowledge the reality and practicality of today. No Empire can stay on forever.

  12. Salam Tun

May I respond to Middle Ages..

1-The whole democratic system is founded on ‘corruption’, I think.

2-In the greatest democracy of the world,USA all the political parties be it Democrats or Republican are sponsored by lobbyist.

3-All the congressmen are sitting on the board of directors of some multi national companies. Most of them are multi millionaires.

4-Do you think any political parties can afford to contest if they have no good manifestos to offer?

5-Why would anybody choose you if you have nothing great to offer. The greater the goodie that could win the voters, the costlier it would be.

6-Even to start a revolution to change this system you need to offer goodies to the people to support you.You think there would be stupid people to risk their lives if you have nothing to offer them?Promising them a better wealthier lifestyle should they win the revolution is not money politics?

7-If Pakatan has the right moral way please show us now in this coming GE13.I am sure BN and all other parties in the world want to learn how to win election without using any money at all.

    Thanks Tun.

  13. Salam Tun,

May i react to iskandar shah 2 please.
On second thoughts Tun, i think it’s not worth responding.
Iskandar is merely angry at my presentation/langauge, not my point.

It is obvious to everyone he agrees with me BN is playing with money politics, the thing you warned UMNO very sternly to stay away from several years ago.

Apparently, UMNO had forgotten already. Cepat nya dorang lupa Tun. Tapi saya rasa bukan lupa Tun, cuma “segan” kata Sudin. Segan sebab takut kene keluar dari Putrajaya nanti.

Tak payah segan lah, kita beri masa ikut keadaan yang selesa dan nyaman, tak perlu riuh sekampung. Bukannya suruh pindah pun, tukar tempat duduk sahaja, macam kene keluar rumah sehelai sepinggang ! Drama hindustan lebih sangatlah orang UMNO nih.

Ish ish ish. ( Tsk tsk tsk kata prof ridcullly ).

    Thank You Tun.

    Dear Middle Ages
1-Pakatan’s language is not as simple meh?

  15. Tun

An Open Letter for Lim Kit Siang and for all Malaysian Chinese.

    Dear Mr Lim,

Rest assured I am no donkey of our illustrious Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

I had no money or medals from him. I only met Tun 3 times in my whole life. The reason was that sometimes others kept me away from him for fear of fear itself.

I am like you and Tun, a patriot of our beloved country Malaysia like all Malaysians loyal to the Yang Di Pertuan Agong and country. But I have been an interested observer of the good and the great on both sides of the hallowed Causeway since October 1951

I just want to share my emotions and ideas with you and the Party you lead.

Are you leading them the right path ? Or are you the Malaysian version of the Pied Piper of Hamelin ?

However, I know you are not in your heart of hearts. And that you are a reasonable person but circumstances were such that you had no time to think and reflect on personalities and events which have led you up to this present day. You might have been swept away by the swell of injustice as experienced and emotively moved in the past.

Unlike you, in 1969, I was offered the best State for a Malaysian Chinese being the Kuala Kubu State seat of Selangor which would have put me into the State Executive Legislature. In 1973, I was further offered the Federal seat of Batu Berendam, Melaka. Both were proposed by the late Tun Tan Siew Sin but I declined. I had good advisors and I thought other candidates were better qualified and my ambitions have always been modest.

But whether you like it or not, you and your esteemed Party are at a crossroads for the following reasons :-

    1. Your Party and yourself when you were young, drew your inspiration and motivation based on one man alone and one man only, Lee Kuan Yew. This was in the 1960s when even cows could fly. Without any doubt, you have seen and experienced much. Down in Singapore, the mistakes of human endeavour are now revealing themselves as facts and not as rumours. And Lee Kuan Yew is no longer treated like a demi-god. Facts are facts.

    i) The failure of the Government’s 2 child Policy of the 1970s and the 1980s led to the clash of multiculturalism today and more.

I believe Article 16 of the United Nations Universal Policy for Human Rights was breached.

ii) The use of money as an instrument of Foreign Policy in the guise of investment which might have led to the deaths and injuries of innocent men, women and children in friendly countries.

iii) The loss of US$ 108 Billions of the citizens Trust money invested in inferior institutions on Wall Street in October 2008.

iv) The perfunctory performance of the Judiciary as claimed by Singapore’s very own citizens.

    v) And without being too facetious, the life-style and wealth of the ruling elite.

    2. You and your Party are now sleeping uncomfortably every night with 2 strange bedfellows. Each with his own special dreams.

But in realpolitik, the Party which you have led so long was not effective in serving the ultimate and best interests of the general population. In other words, how could one contribute meaningfully when one is in the dog-house all the time.

Even if PR wins in the 13th General Elections, the question of setting up shop between 3 hard-edged political parties will only be satisfied by hard-nosed answers. Is this practical at the present time ?

I really do not understand the slogan of your Party, ‘ Malaysia for Malaysians ‘ which was coined by the gentleman from the Straits Settlements in 1964. It is meaningless within the context of a diverse population and besides, the ‘ Malay Spring ‘ happened in 1946 when the Royal Sultans and UMNO snuffed out the Malayan Union.

It was mischievous for the gentleman from the Straits Settlements to bring up a divisive topic which is not only out-moded but downright dangerous implying revolution and not evolution.

Hence, this letter to you that have you ever considered dropping the slogan and your Party will overnight move from the shadows into the light so that all Malaysians and Malaysian Chinese in particular benefit from your wise counsel and your Party’s support ?

I can visualise that your Party with the right moves without the temptations of the flesh and filthy lucre would contribute much not only to BN but to our Yang Di Pertuan Agong, and all the citizens.

And to the World, as an adjunct to all or whatever good that is happening.

It is only a simple question of semantics.

    Evolution not Revolution.

In politics, it is a tough job of service with no returns. This you know much more than I do, that is if you practised this noble profession truly which you have done to serve – the Yang Di Pertuan Agong and his subjects loyal and truthfully.

58 (55). You want clean environment, starts DIY in fast food outlets.

59 (56). If these we can’t do this, then, “shut-up”.

    That’s all, YAB.

  17. 9. Scarcity brings prices up. This explains the property market. The scarcity of land has made houses become more and more expensive. It is logical.

    10. But can we do something about it? Yes, we can. Indeed, we are doing something. We are further developing of Kuala Lumpur. We are adding more MRT lines. And we are turning Klang River into River of Life.

    11. The completion of these projects will entice more people to work and live in Kuala Lumpur. It will add up to the current unfulfilled demand for properties. Yes, we are contributing to the increase of property prices.

    12. Those projects are not money making. Instead, after their completion, the government has to allocate subsidies.

    13. MRTs are not making money. Not that I know. The UK government allocated £11 billion to support their train operators for a 10 year period (from 2001 to 2011). In 6 years, 76% was used. Without the support, their train operators would have been making losses.

    14. It is better that we invest in developing a new area from scratch, like Putrajaya. The land is not as scarce as those of Kuala Lumpur. More people can afford to buy houses.

  18. Dear Tun,

Please allow me to thank Iskandar Shah 2 for his support. I appreciate it.
MiddleAges tried to correct my English. It is akin to ‘seperti tikus membaiki labu’
But I like MiddleAges because of his stamina, tenacity and sense of belonging. Most of all, I like his gullibility and simplicity in thinking.
He is the type that swallow even the sinker. He is the type that tries to ‘menegak benang basah’. He is the typical wishful thinking type of Chinaman who confesses to be an atheist and yet wants to be called a believer or a Muslim. I sincerely hope he would one day recite the dua kalimah syahadah.
I pray that one day Allah would bestow enlightenment(hidayah) upon MiddleAges. I plead forgiveness from MiddleAges if my writing had hurt you.

  19. Salam Tun;

I just don’t understand why a lot of Malaysian hate the current government . Do they think that the opposition leaders are so clean?? Is the current government that bad.?

I am very proud to be Malaysian. I wonder why minorities still complaining when you enjoy the big chunk of Malaysian richness ??

The Malays don’t you see how desperate other people from other countries /different races/back grounds come to Malaysia ,relentlessly asking for donations. They keep on coming to our mosques to let us know how difficult for them to survive in their own country and ask for token of our sympathy?? I been to overseas so many times but never see any Malays had to go to other countries to ask donation for anything? I wish to thank you to the hard work the government had done to get Malaysia to this level. Thanks to you Tun.

I am sad to see those minorities still not appreciative of the way the current government policies that enable them to make as much money as they want. Are they being discriminated ?

I hate those parasites and hope Hassan Ali keep continue what he is doing. As identified by Hassan Ali, Anwar is the biggest parasite. He was about to destroy UMNO and Tun managed to stop him . He is now planning strategy to destroy PAS, and I am afraid that Malaysia will be destroyed once he is in power. Why power is too important to him, is he really contributed to Malaysia so far ?? To me billions gone missing because of him.

    “BN’s language is very simple.

    Dear Middle Ages

1-Pakatan’s language is not as simple meh?

2-Vote for me,you will get even much more than what BN can offer.I don’t have much money now but trust me once you give me the power I will have much much more money than BN ever amassed .

3-Sebab tu I berani janji hari ni I menang, esok harga minyak turun ,semua highway free dan PTPTN tak yah bayar.

4-What BN has given is peanuts compared to what your favourite party has promised.

5-So while Pakatan is going round promising the sky should people vote for them, BN on the other hand is not even allowed to promise the clouds?

    6-Come on be reasonable..

    Thanks Tun

  21. Tun

    For All Malaysian Chinese.

It is without any doubt that the Malaysia we knew and now know is at the cross-roads after over 55 years of Merdeka. As a diverse set of citizens which have lived peacefully together for umpteenth ages, there should be serious concerns about the state of our political and socio-economic health in relation to our beloved country.

Many years ago, a political veteran told me that if a person had RM 20 Million, he could do a lot of damage to the Government party of the day. In 1954, the Alliance election machinery was financed entirely by the towkays for $450,00 !

This is now 30 years later and we have at least 4 dynastic Opposition families who are very rich to participate in the very risky profession of politics with great aplomb and they definitely do not have RM 450,000 in their pockets !

The PR has 6 leaders whose ages are all above 62 years old except one. There is no depth in its leadership if compared with the BN which has many political practitioners of note. For them, the next 13th General Elections will be the last bus home !

The PR is a creature of recent creation, since 2008, whereas the BN has been around since the days of the Alliance 1954. One PR party wants Malaysia to be like Lee Kuan Yew’s Singapore, another promises goodies unlimited whilst the third has yet to tell us what they want to do.

This is the PR for you.

What happens if the PR members break-up after achieving their ends ? How ? I could only envisage a big rojak of a political mess for all of us and foreigners will laugh at us especially those who have been envious of our peace, stability and harmony since Merdeka 1957.

A moment of weakness in the BN after 2003 permitted these detractors who had no love for the BN to stretch their wings in preparation for the General Elections of 2008.

The BN lost big and nearly lost their pants too. The leadership forgot that in politics, there are enemies everywhere in the concrete jungle, enemies who are friends and friends who are enemies. This is politics in its rawest form.

It is the political power which holds sway above money and academic qualifications.

In Singapore, the fount of admiration by many Malaysian Chinese and also of Lee Kuan Yew as well, the birds of human mistakes are now coming home to roost e.g. (English speaking Malaysian Chinese believe in facts, Mandarin speaking Malaysian Chinese in emotions and traditions)

    1. The failure of Lee Kuan Yew’s 2 child Policy in the 1970s and the 1980s – The void in replacing the missing Singaporean Chinese which should have been born, appeared 15 years ago. This was when Singapore decided to import millionaires from India and China. India was included to create a sort of image that the importation of these millionaires to upkeep Singapore’s demographics is fair and not Chinese only.

I believe Article 16 of the UN Universal of Human Rights had been breached.

All admirers of Singapore and Lee Kuan Yew please take note.

    2. Money was used as an instrument of Singapore’s Foreign Policy in the guise as an investment – This Policy has committed untold loss of innocent lives of men, women and children and disrupted ancient friendly societies to this day. And to no avail. These are the facts.

All admirers of Singapore and Lee Kuan Yew please take note.

    3. Singapore lost US $108 Billions of its citizens Trust money on Wall Street in October 2008 despite its vaunted meritocratic pyramid – A sum of money which was nearly as much as the Foreign Reserves of Malaysia at that time.
Vide. Channelnewsasia. Lee Kuan Yew. November 2008. All Singaporean Blogs. 2009-2012. Financial Times London Gillian Tett. April 2010. ‘Singapore’s Harvard Model’
All admirers of Singapore and Lee Kuan Yew please take note.

    4. The Singapore Judiciary is far worse than the Malaysian Judiciary which never claimed they were world’s best. The latest case is the ‘Woffles Wu Case’ which involved the nephew of a late President. And a few others which would surely surface at the right moment involving the ruling clique.

All admirers of Singapore and Lee Kuan Yew please take note.

The above-mentioned facts originated from Singapore.

It is up to the English speaking Malaysian Chinese to decide what is good for themselves, their families and relatives. And for the Mandarin speaking Malaysian Chinese to decide whether they have been duped for decades through brainwashing that only great scholars from the University of Cambridge come from Singapore. I can tell you, ladies and gentlmen, that this is absolutely untrue. The best is in Malaysia.

As for DAP which was still-born on its inception and now faced with being washed away if the tides of politics flow the wrong way, by climbing into bed with 2 strange bedfellows, it led unsuspecting and uninformed Malaysian Chinese up a greasy pole of zero returns with the mischievous slogan ‘Malaysia for Malaysians’ coined by the gentleman from the Straits Settlements.

This slogan was also still-born after the Malayan Union was snuffed by the Royal Sultans and UMNO in 1946. Mischievous !

The way out for all Malaysian Chinese including the DAP is to vote steadfastly for the BN ! Be realistic ! Be practical ! Be pragmatic !

    No pain, no gain !

  22. Assalamualaikum Tun,

I currently working with MNC financial investment company in Cyberjaya. Its a Lux investment Banking that taking care of huge amount of money by certain parties and invest in a lots of investment series. E.g Italian fund in euro and they invest in Greece Soy bean, raw materials, corn feautres option.

This shows that even raw materials such as Soy beans, corn, copper, cocoa and coffee develop thier own financial investment and offers to public in order to sustain their Financial needed. Thus, the financial fund for these raw material will be sustained and enough for R&D and develop their agriculture.E.g Corn can be used in cooking oils, sos, mayonise, and others food ingredients. This shows how the fund used in researching and develop the usage of the raw materials so it will be sustain in market demand.

Not just a public listed company offers thier shares to public, but also all types of products develop thier market instrument such as futures option and equity to public.

Tun,What is your opinion about Malaysia financial system regarding our raw materials that have a potetial growth to supply to the Global. Is it possible if we could have this types of financial strategy for our agriculture.

  23. 4. There is a difference between temporary and permanent allocation of money to the low income earners. Temporary allocation of money like bonuses and periodical allowances will give a short-term boost to the economy.

    5. But one could not expect a continuing economic boost through permanent allocation of money like salary increase or minimum wage pay. As soon as the industry players know that the demand is strong and stable, they will increase their prices. The low income earners will once again find difficulties in coping with everyday life. Again, they will ask for a salary increase. The process will continue until we eventually realize that everything has become much expensive than before. Some parties coin this as ‘price/wage spiral’.

    5. In Malaysia, we are facing two overlapping problems: huge income disparity and affordability to the necessities. Surely, giving more loans is not a solution. In fact, this move will add more risk to our economy and will probably ruin us in the future.

    6. Huge income disparity could actually be tackled by increasing tax to the rich or high earners. Their take home pay will be closer to the low earners. Thus, reducing income disparity. But of course the influential rich will not agree. We will end up trying to raise salary of the low earners which causes ‘price/wage spiral’.

    7. One way to make necessities affordable to low income earners, or also to the middle income earners, is to reduce prices. Prices of cars, for instance, could be reduced by lowering taxes on cars. Proton must be proactive in reducing its production costs. They should not keep on asking for government protection.

    8. I understand that Proton faces an issue of ‘economies of scale’. But it seems that the problem is originated from introducing models that did not cater to market needs. Models like Juara, Tiara and perhaps Savvy could not achieve ‘economies of scale’. Not many people bought them. The profits made from selling popular models are made to cover the losses from these models.

  24. Salam YAB & diKasihi Tun,

As for free tertiary education, the education is free but the cost of living is SO HIGH…campur-tolak semua kos, baik belajar di Malaysia.

    Undilah BN.

    Terima kasih Tun.

*** Semoga Allah SWT melindungi Tun sekeluarga. ***

  25. YAB Tun,

In my opinion, I feel satisfied with the current economy, monetary and expenditure policy of the government. Only, there should be some continuous improvement from time to time in order to meet with the current changes in the world economic environment, and also demand by our peoples, industries and foreign investors. Due to stabillity in economic and peaceful situation enjoyed by this country, we saw a substantial amount of foreign workers and students came here to work and continue studies. Now, their population has become millions and began to act as a threat to local peoples. There are so many problems and criminals begin to appear in our country and it is not a peaceful and safe anymore for our peoples to perform their daily activities in a big city like KL and elsewhere. There are so many foreigners who misused their visitor’s pass and student’s pass to illegally work here and cheating local peoples, and many more illegally stayed here without any intention to go back to their country. Therefore, if these problem is not seriously handle by the government, soon we will be a country like south america or middle asia where the gangsters and cartels are more powerful than the government. Therefore, I think our goverment should revise the policy of giving visitor pass (instead of visa) and giving student pass to private university/college students to the foreigners, because these documents/pass give them a lot of advantage to enter our country and do whatever they want, and our law enforcers cannot monitor all of them and their activities all the times. Hopefully, the ministry concern and our government will do something to solve this problem to safeguard our peoples, and also our domestic and national security.

    Regards.

  26. Assalamualaikum WBT yg Bhg Tun,

    Sekian, wassalam Tun.

  27. Dear Tun,

May you always be in good health.

    1. I believe our government is taking the bottom up economics approach. By raising the salaries and welfare of low income people, we think that we can stimulate the economy.

    2. Theoretically in bottom up economics, higher salaries and welfare will help the low income earners in getting their necessities. They will spend the extra money given to them. This increases economic growth.

    3. Rich people buy luxuries when they have extra money. But spending on luxuries is just an option. They can decide to spend or not to spend. They can still live comfortably. In economics, not spending is not good for growth. Therefore, money is better allocated to low income earners.

    ..to be continued..

  28. Tun

    For Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir

My good wishes to you for attaining any high Government post because you have the 3 Golden Attributes to do so :-

    1. Commonsense. You have dignity, standards, propriety and ethics. You did not run around the streets of Kuala Lumpur with a full pocket and stomach. You did not grab motorcar vehicle numbers from the public. You did not dig out the treasures of our national coffers and sell them cheap cheap to foreigners for huge profits.

    2. Abiltiy to think out of the box. Yout concept for the the Japanese SMIs to shift to Malaysia is briliiant !

    3. Compassion. President Bush, Tony Blair and Lee Kuan Yew have none. The latter built Singapore into a modern temple of money without compassion which is not sustainable.

  29. Salam Tun,

    Amin Tan says ….

You said we believe the Government has unlimited amounts of money to pay for everything. No, Tun, you are wrong there.

What Tun said is that the conventional wisdom or mass belief or majority opinion is such that the government of the day has infinite amount of money to spend. The statement implies that that this belief is errorneous. It is a correct statement.

Tun’s English is not wrong. It is your command of the language that is wrong. The purpose of studying a language is not so that we understand, rather, it is so that we do not misunderstand creating such a confusion and mess, as is clearly your case here.

That is why you suport BN. You misunderstoood their language altogether. Itu macam la.

    BN’s language is very simple.
“I have a lot of money. Vote for me, you will get more. Here take some first, as free sample. More will come soon”.

Of course, we should not ask where it is all coming from. Our government can do magic. 🙂

Western economists must really stink. I hope the government do not employ any of them for advise. Even those with blonde hair and blue eyes and with money sticking out of their pockets.

I think we should listen to the Chinese. ( Ouch ! )

    Thank You Tun

  30. Salam Tun,

“22. Remember how President Obama of the “greatest democracy in the world”, promised to close down Guantanamo detention camp two days after his installation as President. Well Guantanamo is still there.

I still remember they said “Hari Ini Kita Menang, Besok Subuh Kita Tutup Kilang Arak”. But instead of closing them, they offer Carlsberg to move to a bigger land in Klang.

    No different between the two.

I asked this matter to my friend from PKR and he said “Mungkin nak pindahkan ke Klang pasal tak sedap mata memandang ada kat tepi hiway” and I can only smile 🙂

  31. Outsider cannot tell us what to do

  32. Good morning YAB,

    42. Is DS Mukhriz okay with his papa’s decision to support him to run for MB for Kedah?

    43. YAB, I don’t think you know all your children well.

    44. Due to his tertiary education in Japan and USA, his Exco position experiences and now as Deputy Minister for MITI, he would not want to be seen as Mahathir’s shadow to win votes.

    45. It would be a waste if DS Mukhriz is stationed in Kedah to fight with that apanama TS Kadir Sheik, the parti Ikatan.

    50. Winning Federal Government Power of Authority is crucial for BN, not state power.

    51. Please bear in mind that Malaysia has well passed through race, religion and justice rhetoric politics.

    52. Right or wrong, our future leaders will decide what is good for Malaysia.

    53. I am signing out, and I wish Malaysia be blessed with a good PM under the 14th Yang Dipertuan Agong.

    Goodbye, YAB.

  33. Asslamu’alaikum Tun

Hishamuddin cuma sesuai jadi menteri pelancongan saja…

    terimakasih Tun

  34. Commenting on the opposition weakness is ridiculous at the current moment.

Our current government behaves like a poltical party!
    It is so obvious.

We want our government to build our nation, but; instead they focus on their political party member to reap the nation’s wealth when in power.

  35. Dear Tun,

In Malaysia, what needs to be done is UMNO must

    1. Get rid of incompetent, corrupt leaders that does no good to this country despite whatever the opposition says.
    2. To do this UMNO must stop using ‘old’ ways of educating & convincing the people.
    3. Get all GLCs clear from politically connected individuals – especially the corrupt ones.

The Europe crisis is due to leaders who are complacent and corrupt which in Malaysia we have them in abundance in the Opposition & BN

The only way we will Move forward is when UMNO really wakes up. A changed UMNO is the only hope in my opinion.

  36. Dear Tun,

Our problems in Malaysia are :

    1. Corruption – especially so UMNO ‘leaders’
    2. Oppositions who are actually splinters from UMNO – thus same thinking and attitude.

  37. Salam Tun,

    I agreed.

Live within your means. Do not be greedy and selfish.

    Wasalam

  38. Tun

It is timely that Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir move to the forefront of national politics at this juncture as our beloved Nation seeks the voluntary services of deserving candidates as many as possible.

I have noted that on a recent trip to Japan, Datuk Mukhriz suggested the concept whereby the smaller Japanese industries may shift their operations to parts of Malaysia and aggregate themselves into useful industrial units without the fear of interruptions from earthquakes or tsunamis.

Datuk Mukhriz’s suggestion is laudable and practical.

Malaysia has many areas where such Japanese enterprises maybe set-up rapidly for the sustainability of any particular type of operations which perform feeder services to giant companies around the world. These could sited along the East Coast of West Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak as long as the airports are within one hour’s reach.

This new Japanese industrial input will create more jobs and opportunities for workers wherever these are situated.

New routes for air, sea and land transport could be established giving a flip to the existing established services of note.

With his ideas, Datuk Mukhriz can contribute much more to the State of Kedah with his wide experience in public affairs.

In politics, a person should start very young to be able to handle issues and responsibilities which will inevitability arise.

We must always support candidates who volunteer to serve the Nation.

    Malaysia Boleh !

  39. Salam Tun,

We as truly Malaysian should be more thankful (bersyukur amat sangat) towards the mighty God Allah SWT by sustaining and improving the growth of Malaysia. Our economics situation is continuously growing, our multiracial relationship continuously improving and stable since our independence for the last 54 years ago, under the administrative of “Kerajaan Perikatan and Barisan Nasional” till to date.

Some changers happened after the general election year 2008, when the present government failed to maintain 2/3 majority in the Parliament. Anyway some weaknesses of the present government have been rectified and substantially improved with the several government transformation programs, and some are proven and beneficial to the country as well as to the Rakyat of Malaysia. I strongly believed as long as the present government Barisan Nasional headed by UMNO be always on the right track on their plannings our economics situation will definitely grow and maintained at higher level, whereby will be shared by the people of Malaysia, insya’Allah.

Our oppositions (PKR, DAP & Pas) goal is only to gain political power and step into Putrajaya. By doing so, they do not really care about what will happen to the country and the people of Malaysia, and simply throwing all kinds of promises that some of the youngsters have been deeply influenced, because the younger generations practically not all, they are lacking of knowledge with regards the history of Malaysia (especially political history). The new information technology that was introduced by Tun during your time as Prime Minister has been wrongly used by the oppositions to create several issues that are not true and relevant for the current situations.

The present government should work more harder to develop the country as planned, all promises to be delivered to the Rakyat. The oppositions (PKR, DAP & Pas) each individual party have their own direction, meaning to say that they are united only to win the general election 13, and after the election if they happened to win, they will fight each other for the number one post to administer the country. Looking at the current status, DAP obtained more seats in Parliament as well as states as compared to PKR and Pas. Referred to democracy roles, more seats meaning more power, and so DAP have more advantages to seat at the number one post as Prime Minister.

Let us together think deeply and choose the right government to continuously administer Malaysia.

    Wassalam Tun.

  40. It is influence, instigations that affects the distabilzation of a nation,The Media News plays a vital role,it affects and has effects and defects

Malaysia was now threaten with influence, instigations by DAP
Back By PAP, using PR, PAS as a dispossable tools by DAP,PAP
agenda, self importance despite for the price of a Chaos in Malaysia
They will dispose PR,PAS once UMNO breakdown
The basic formation of PR,PAS, DAP was intigated by outside influence,to gaps us to weakness

PAS, PR you should know this
You are just a disposable tools by DAP
    Think wisely
You should have the answer by now

Kita akan putih mata kerana berpecah dan tidak sedia berputih tulang….

  43. Commenting on the opposition weakness is ridiculous at current moment.

Our current government behaves like a poltical party!
    It is so obvious.

We want our government is build our nation not making your political party member to reap the nation’s wealth when in power.

  44. Spiritually and religiously awaken person or people who love God (not fear God) will surely chose any livelihood or profession other then Politics or Politician. The main reason a person chose to be a politician is recognition and the job-scope of a politician is “to win at any cost”. With the so many “I” and “me” do you think the person can still think wisely and fairly. Politics and Religion are and should be on the opposite side of each other and can never be side-by-side.
Religion and spirituality are based on Heaven Law
Politics and Power are based on Human Law

  46. Salam,

Thanks to you Tun, Malaysia is also heading that way soon. All the overinflated mega projects that you implemented and borrowings you made to finance them had caused Malaysia to hand over Blok L & M to Brunei to repay those debts. Very soon, Malaysia too will be bankrupt, but not due to the economy or the people but rather due to the corrupt government that you moulded during your 22 years as PM.
    Thank you, Tun M.

  47. Tun

You have rightly pointed out in the media that the Malaysian Chinese may hold the key to the next 13th General Elections because of the fact that the Bumiputras are purported to be in 3 separate political factions. At the moment this seems to be the case but with a fast unfolding political scenario, a week is a long time in politics – a well-worn cliche.

It is not only the Malaysian Chinese, but also the Malaysian Indians, the Bumiputras and all the other non-Malays hope to lead a normal life with normal expectations for themselves, children and families.

As an apolitical observer of the political scene since October 1951, it takes an astute person like yourself to wield the power in your hands in the right way with a fair and reasonable result and sometimes, your decisions were not to everyone’s liking especially the foreigners.

And no human being has been able to sustain a life-time without making mistakes.

This leads to the pyramidal nature of Malaysian politics right up to 2003 before which point, the Rakyat could have some benefits flowing down the slippery slope of the vaunted pyramid. This was the glue that held the diverse Malaysian society together as long as the goodies flowed. But after 2003, no goodies flowed to the proletariat at the bottom.

    The Rakyat waited and waited.

If any goodies were given, these were in small drops without any political effect whatsoever. The general public are only interested in goodies for their survival and not hot air for sustenance. For a mighty effect and impression, all small drops of benefits should be coalesced into a huge dollop and released altogether at once to exhibit the BN’s reach and strength or else it is just a zero sum game, like small boys playing with marbles.

It is still not late for BN to find its way out of this quagmire so created by its own inaction and only responding to the prodding, the cuts and the thrusts of the PR political swordmasters.

What BN brought out were axemasters not swordmasters which were slow and effective against the sharp witted swordmasters of PR ! Hence, the farcical episode of name-calling and of all people, on the Malaysian Chinese.

And as for the Malaysian Chinese with their hardwork and frugality, they should make a wise and sensible choice. And they should have confidence and know themselves well in the face of name calling etc. which should be considered irrelevant.

In my lifetime, I have been scolded by outsiders more than 12 times but not by friends or relatives. I took all these scoldings in my stride with a laugh because I knew exactly what sort of person I am and I had the confidence.

And of course, I knew more about the name-callers than they knew about me !

But for the general Malaysian Chinese at large, where were you MCA to disseminate proper information about the Malaysian Chinese, their role in a diverse society, their loyalty to the Yang Di Pertuan Agong and Nation, to encourage each community to touch base with one another etc ?

It is not easy to be a real politician in a diverse population. It is jolly hard work with zero returns.

MCA intercommunal social units should have been set up very soon after Merdeka 1957 and definitely, at the beginning of the NEP and statistics units as well.

We now only have Dato Michael Chong to helm an all embracing and all time unit in a party which claims to have at least a million members and more than RM 1 Billion in the bank ! Ai-yo, yo !

On the question of name calling which has now burst out openly in the public domain during the last few years. ( Maybe the BN lack political swordmasters to duel with PR ).

This is nothing new. What used to be said in private for centuries has now become public knowledge !

This is one result of the change of ownership of the English newspapers in the early 1970s. Before this event, the news were whitewashed and carefully translated. However, as we moved from 1970s to the present day, there was a lack of care in the transfer of news onto the newsprint – as a result, what used to be only for the eyes of one community has become available for all communities.

And in a diverse country like Malaysia, different communities have different sensitivities. And the awareness of each other’s sensitivities is the bond of friendship, no more or less. All citizens are involved.

In fact, the use of words like ‘pendatang’ and ‘prostitutes’ have always been with us for decades as long as I could remember and those persons who used them now probably learnt about these words from their peers after puberty.

One friend of mine told me recently that he will vote PR because the Malaysian Chinese were called ‘pendatang’ and ‘prostitutes’.

I told him that this is illogical because this is un-Malaysian Chinese and he should have considered his pocket and his past, present and future first.

And not forgetting that……the Malaysian Chinese are the best treated in the world, better than Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong, China and the rest of the World during the successive BN Governments and by the Royal Sultans of yore. Vide. All Singaporean Blogs 2009 – 2012.

Even if you do not consider the non-Bumiputra billionaires and multi-millionaires (inclusive of politicians).

And despite the fact that the MCA failed to deliver to its BN partners ( as a strong link ) and exposed its constituents to unwarranted and undeserved attacks and ridicule. This should not have been the case if the Party had done its job scrupulously and whole-heartedly as befitting such a major entity.

Unfortunately or fortunately from now on, whichever Malaysian Chinese leadership is supportive of the Government of the day, the Party has to be like Shakespeare’s Caesar’s wife….beyond reproach….in the face of all temptations of the flesh, money or otherwise !

Malaysian politics is fast becoming a vocation like doctors, teachers, priests, monks etc, chaps !

Malaysia will only improve if all Malaysian Chinese vote BN.

Tun is right in his surmise !

  48. Ahhhh
What else free things that u want?
You lupa that our sekolah rendah n menengah free wat.
Even u spent 200 to 300 rm per month for pre school. That u tak bising.

It is good to have free education and the government should look into it seriously. The problem that we have now, because of ptptn, this kolej, uni, what ever took advantage of hiking the school fee.

I pay my wife higher education not more than 5k for her diploma in on of the kolej , part time study last time before ptptn era. Now because of ptptn, that course fee has risen up to 25k. Wat la

The government should look into this seriously. A lot of people dont mind to pay the course fee as long as its not been exaggerated by the tamak people.

I gave the government a lot of money. Eventhough sometimes i felt being cheated by the government, but i still ok because for me i pay for my kids education fee for sek rendah and menengah. Most of malaysian still run from paying tax but still making hell of noises.

For higher learning, i am ok if we pay some course fees. But not like now. It is pity to see a lot of younger ppl hidup daif because to pay this education debt.

Before that. A lot of people love america. In america you have to pay course fee. But when malaysia tiru america on this, u hentam the government. Why huh?

U all are hypocrite people. Shame on you.

  49. I JUST HAD A DISCUSSION WITH A FRIEND
    OF CHAOS IN SYRIA,LIBYA
HE SAID LATE GADAFFI, PRESIDENT BASAR AL ASSAD IS TOO
    IN POWER,ITS NOT DEMOCRACY

OK,WHAT IS SAUDI,KUWAIT AND MANY MORE
IT,S THEIR CULTURE,AS LONG AS ITS PEOPLE ACCEPT IT
AND AS LONG AS THESE NATIONS LISTEN TO UNITES STATES NEEDS

LIBYA,SYRIA,IRAN DOES NOT MUCH LISTEN TO UNITED STATES
UNITED NATIONS. SO SUDDENLY THEY WANT TO IMPLEMENT DEMOCRACY,HUMAN RIGHTS FOR THE NATION AND SUPPORT THE REBELS

    SO
    WHAT IF SAUDI,KUWAIT,ETC ETC RULER
DECIDED NOT TO LISTEN TO UNITED STATES,UNITED NATION
    OR NATO
SO WHAT THEN, SUDDENLY THEY WILL CALL FOR DEMOCRACY
    SUPPORT THE OPPOSITION ?

  50. Askm Tun, may Allah SWT continue to provide blessing for us all.

In democratic system of government, people has the power to decide who should be elected to govern the country. Ideally, it is the quality of the two groups, namely the people at large ( rakyat ) and the people being elected ( political leaders ) that will decide the health of our nation.

The democratic system means that the majority rules and this is the main cause of the likely problems. Unless the people are well educated with knowledge for rational thinking, the “leaders to be” will apply all means to make sure they will get to power. This greed for power & wealth is their driving motivation to compete and to effectively use propogada in misguiding people at large in order to achieve their objective. The people therefore must be able to think rationally & intelligently in understanding & visualising what these “leaders to be ” are actually saying because saying is cheap but actions to deliver is totally another matter.

For me, these “leaders to be” should be Allah fearing people who should understand that we mortal human are not perfect and have so many weaknesses araised from the “desire/nafsu” that will be exploited by syaitan/iblis in influencing human to do evil deeds. But Allah also provide the brain/akal for human to think what are bad and what are good, governed by Allah’s laws as a balancing tool to fight the “nafsu” which is more inclined towards doing evil things. Therefore, ONLY knowledge of Quran & Sunnah is crucial in guiding our life for “now and world after” as such, Allah has commanded upon us in surah al-Baqarah that it is obligatory for ALL Muslims to study and fully understand the contents of Quran & Sunnah ( thro’ hadiths ). That is the KEY to resolve the world problems.

Men of wisdom will decide rationally & intelligently while the opposites will choose just to become mere followers.

May Allah SWT continue to provide us His blesssings and to protect us all from all evils.

  51. Assal’kum Tun,

The Opposition’s blue print is a Wish List, nice to have but is it sustanable? It is a popularity wish, everyone would love its plan, but for how long?
There is no such thing as a free lunch. What you receive as free here has to be paid somewhere. If the people are so naive as not to see through their tactics, their Popularity agenda, then they will have to live with it when the time comes. The Opposition has only one blueprint and that is to be in Putrajaya. The rest is just a mask to cover their tactics. This, our DSAI has been planning since he was dismissed from the government. He is a master of tricks, but a servant to good governance.

  53. Malaysian Political system have collapsed , the government behaves like a poltical party! Thats what i see. This is the root cause of all problems highlighted above.

Discussing about the cause of problems is never ending.

Hope someone goes to the root cause to solve our countries current dilemma.

  54. YABhg Tun,

To maintain majority shares in the government, the Malays MUST vote ENBLOCK for UMNO or PAS.

  55. Dear Tun,

The Opposition says Anwar Ibrahim was the best Finance Minister. I dispute that. It was during his tenure in 1997, the Asian financial crisis occurred. He was confused and made all the wrong policies a Finance Minister could possibly do. He advocated high interest rate to strangle the economy. He was already a tool for the Western power. Only when Tun, as the Prime Minister of the day stepped in with the Capital Control, then only calm and confidence returned and restored.
Now Anwar Ibrahim promises no PTPTN, no tolls, free patrol for everybody in order to fish for votes, only gullible voters and idiots would swallow all kinds of rubbish, hook, lines and SINKER. Let us all not be fooled and conned by such con artist that he is the magician that can give every thing free to all and sundry. Only sunshine and fresh air are God given free of charge. The rest have opportunity cost and are not free, my dear fellow citizens.

    amin tan

  56. Tun,
I beg to differ with your opinion. There is nothing wrong for workers to asked for a higher salary provided if they really work hard.Higher salary should comes together with higher productivity.
Of course the employers should not pay their workers higher salaries if they did not work hard or are lazy.
They have the right to sack any of their staff that did not performed at work.
Tun, i think it is unfair for you to suggest that workers should not ask for a higher pay so that our product will stay compatitive in the world market.
It would be similiar as the old communist system like the Soviet Union where workers whether they are hard working or lazy are being paid with an equal salary. It later resulted in decline of productivity and products of poorer quality. This lead to the demise of the Soviet Union.
I also disaggree with you that workers should not asked for a lower income tax just so that the goverment should have more money to spend on the country development and expenditure.
How are they going to pay more income tax if their salaries remains stadnant?
The inland revenue should instead increase their tax on the big corporates that are doing well in bussiness and find new resouces for taxation.
And please Tun dont tell me that goverment should not do that just because the companies created jobs for the locals.
I tend to agree with the grouses of the middle income workers that the taxes in our country is quite high.
Imagine a tax reduction of only RM1,000 per annum were given per child to inviduals based on an annual income tax assesments wheares it need a few hundreds ringgit per month to bring up a child?
You also mention that by abolishing toll, every one will be paying indirectly and that people who do not use the expressways will also pay.
The problem with our roads system Tun, is that goverment did not provide an alternative roads for those that did not want to use the expressways as promise by the goverment.
Not every expressways have an alternative roads for the people to choose, they did not have the choice to choose at all in some places.
Tun, to be a develope country, we must have a higher salary for the locals so that productivity and quality can be increase and the companies makes monies. The goverment then can have more incomes from taxation to individuals and companies.
Tun, i am sure the rakyat will not be easily swayed by what the opposition promise in the GE.
To me, it is ridiculous for the rakyat to demand for a free education and giving water supply for free to the public is irresponsible. Nothing is free in this world no matter how much develope the country.
    Salam Tun.

  57. I think the younger generation, do not really know what kind of people, these opposition politician are. e.g:
Some do not know that Datuk Anwar Ibrahim is the former First President of ABIM, then brought into BN. That he was also the leader, with Datuk Ibrahin Ali, protesting against the govt., in Baling, 1974, when the prize of rubber is about 10 or 20cent per lbs.

About that education mess, I will try suggest to, Education Minister, to re-establish English Medium Schools, such that exist in the 70′s. Or they can set-up SRJK(E), as another option. In the early 80′s, vernacular schools, almost ‘close shop’ due to lack of students. Many Chinese & Indian parents choose to send their children to English schools.

English language, very important you know. That is why, politician & rich people, send their children to International schools.

1981, after Tun Dr.M brought Anuwar Ibrahim (The 1st. President of ABIM – Angkatan Belia Islam Malaysia) into gomen, racial integration started to fall apart, especially when he was appointed Education Minister. He started to mess politics & religion with education. He is the main culprit who started the Islamisation of schools, just to win over the hearts of Malay/PIS supporters. That’s when demands for vernacular school began to increase, until now.

I do not blame Dr.M, though. Anybody could be fooled, by the pious image, this beast portrays, in public. I guess Tun Dr.M will never forgave himself for bringing this dirty politician into BN.

  59. Salam Tun,

Currently ‘fitnah’ has been spread by the opposition leader towards the government. It is getting the support of the ‘rakyat’ and mostly the youth. It is very sad to see our youth are easily influenced by Anwar’s promises.

Opposition leaders can promise anything right now because they are not yet in power. Wait until they have the power, I am sure Karpal Singh, Nik Aziz, Lim Guan Eng or Hadi Awang won’t back down easily for Anwar to be the next Prime Minister of Malaysia. I heard even Nik Aziz is changing her mind to compete for Parliamentary seat for this coming election. He wants to give away his MB power to Kamaruddin Jaafar who is a good friend of Anwar. After all, Anwar is controlling PAS now.

I hope government can monitor properly and carefully with regards to their activities. It must be prevented before it hits the government to a point where there is no chance for government to educate the people about the truth anymore. ‘Fitnah’ is very dangerous. In fact, it is worse than murder according to Al Quran. The effect of spreading ‘fitnah’ among the society can cause us to fall apart and the enemy can take over.

Currently I am reading you Doktor Umum and I really enjoy reading every page of it. I want to learn our history through your perspective since I am the product of your leadership and there are still so much more to read.

Today I read about Kassim Ahmad’s book about Hadis: Satu Penilaian Semula in Malaysiakini. It was reported that Hishamuddin has asked JAKIM to look into the case of banning the book 26 years ago. I believe we should not ban the book. I believe with or without banning the book, people still have the chance to purchase the book through other ways. It is not gonna stop looking for it even if Government decide to ban it. If our Government really want to practice the right teaching of Islam, it should allow people to read it. The funny thing about JAKIM is that they allow books about free thinker, atheism and ‘syirik’ to be sold in the market and yet banning certain books which tell you the truth.

I am happy to find out about it this morning. Islam will be embraced by many more people, not those who are born Muslim, but by those who seek the truth from Allah and Allah reward them with the truth about Islam which is according to Al Quran. We do not want just quantity but we need also quality Muslim to our congregation.

    Thank you Tun!

  60. If the main problem now is the Oppositions’s intransigence and our gullibility, then it should be recognsed as such and our talents deployed accordingly. What happened to native talents at parody, which you used to great effect during your tenure?

The BN ministers who faithfully repeat Opposition’s claims verbatim and say it is ‘not true’ are only serving to reinforce our gullibility. So is blindly acceeding to Opposition’s demands for payouts.

Where is the imagination? Where is the parody? Where is the freedom? Indiscriminate spending sometimes gives us the illusion of power.

  61. CHEDET,
    Salam Hormat

This article by Mike Whitney is a lesson that is being improvised from China revealed:

    June 26, 2012
    Anything Goes
    China Embraces Ponzi-Bonds
    by MIKE WHITNEY

China is preparing to launch a program that will create the same complex debt-instruments that triggered the global financial crisis in 2008. The pilot program will allow banks to convert pools of loans into securities via off-balance sheet securities firms called Special Purpose Vehicles (SPV) or Structured Investment Vehicles (SIV). The process, which is called securitization, helps banks to circumvent capital requirements by hiding debt on off their books, thus, allowing them to increase leverage by many orders of magnitude. Securitization turbo-charges credit expansion while concealing the risks from shareholders, investors and depositors.

Chinese authorities claim that securitization will help to kick-start the economy by “freeing up funds for lending at a time when Beijing is seeking ways to bolster growth”. But according to an article in the Wall Street Journal, increasing “lending” does not appear to be the real goal at all. Here’s an excerpt from the WSJ article titled “China Looks for Loan Boost”:

“Despite the cautious approach adopted by Chinese regulators, securitization boasts risks that could leave China’s banking system with less of a buffer for loans that default. That is because any buyers of such repackaged products sold in China’s still-underdeveloped capital markets are likely to be banks themselves.

“In China, risk transferring through securitization will be limited because the buyers of the securities will be mostly banks, and, therefore, most of the risks remain in the banking system,” said Yvonne Zhang, a Beijing-based senior banking analyst at Moody’s Investors Service.

In addition, Ms. Zhang said, “If banks, with the capital relief, go on to take on more risks in their new lending, it could also increase the risks for the banking system.”

See? The purpose of securitization is not to boost lending to consumers or businesses, but to recycle securities and cash between the banks themselves in a way that masks the buildup of leverage. (“the buyers of the securities will be mostly banks.”) And the buildup of leverage is done in a way that puts the entire financial system at risk. (“securitization …could leave China’s banking system with less of a buffer for loans that default.”) In other words, the banks may not have enough capital to meet their liabilities. This is precisely what happened in the so called shadow banking system prior to the Lehman Brothers default. China is now taking the first step on that same path.

Securitization enhances credit expansion through a process called “rehypothecation” which allows banks to reuse collateral that has been posted against repurchase agreements to back new trades and loans. This sounds more complicated than it really is. What’s really going on, is the banks are using the same securitized bonds
many times over to borrow more and more money. (Imagine if you took your prize stamp collection to many different pawn brokers and borrowed money from each one without posting the collection itself. This is the same thing.) Here’s a short rundown from Repowatch: ”In a repurchase agreement, companies use securities as collateral to get a loan from another shadow banker, often just for overnight. Now, at this step in shadow banking something interesting happens. In a securities lending transaction or in a repurchase transaction, somebody gives cash and gets back securities. Whoever gets the securities can re-use them as collateral to get their own repo loan. Then the second repo lender can re-use the same securities as collateral to get a repo loan for themselves. And so on.

This is a daisy chain where the same securities become collateral for several loans. It’s another reason that shadow banking is so interconnected.”

The banks are taking their securitized bonds to big pension funds and institutional investors and exchanging them overnight for a small fee. (short-term loans) But it doesn’t stop there, in fact, the securities are posted over and over again, creating extraordinary amounts of leverage on insignificant bits of capital. This is the very definition of risk.

As you can see, none of this has anything to do with increasing demand or “bolstering growth”. This is pure bubblemaking, the purpose of which is to enrich the lucky few at the top of the system who are in a position to skim the profits before the bubble bursts and the economy goes into a nosedive.

If China really wanted to end the slowdown, they’d increase fiscal stimulus to generate more activity through personal consumption. There’s nearly universal
agreement that China’s investment-dependent economic model will not work long-term, and that personal consumption needs to increase to strike a balance. Securitization does not achieve this, in fact, it hampers long-term growth by transfering more of the national wealth upwards. Working people are actually worse off because they have to deal with the fallout from the burst credit bubble which typically results in high unemployment and belt tightening. Securitization makes periodic meltdowns unavoidable since bank leverage is not regulated and since the underlying collateral used in the bonds is not supervised. It’s “anything goes”, which means disaster is never far off.

To make this point clearer, consider this report in Friday’s Wall Street Journal titled “ECB takes further measures to increase collateral availability for counterparties”:

“On 20 June 2012 the Governing Council of the European Central Bank (ECB) … reduced the rating threshold and amended the eligibility requirements for certain asset-backed securities (ABSs). It has thus broadened the scope of the measures to increase collateral availability which were introduced on 8 December 2011 and which remain applicable.”

The ECB assures us that the EU banking system is “solvent” and has assets worth many trillions of dollars. But that can’t be true, can it? After all, the banks borrowed one trillion euros in 3 year, low interest loans just 6 months ago, and already they need more money. So, they are broke, right? And, on top of that, they only have securitized garbage to exchange for the new loans. Now take a look at this from the Financial Times blogsite:

“The ECB’s Governing Council has … broadened the scope of the measures to increase collateral availability …. the Eurosystem will consider the following ABSs as eligible:

Auto loan, leasing and consumer finance ABSs and ABSs backed by commercial mortgages (CMBSs) which have a second-best rating of at least “single A” ….

Residential mortgage-backed securities (RMBSs), securities backed by loans to small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), auto loan, leasing and consumer finance ABSs and CMBSs which have a second-best rating of at least “triple B”….RMBSs, securities backed by loans to SMEs, and auto loan, leasing and consumer finance ABSs would be subject to a valuation haircut of 26%, while CMBSs would be subject to a valuation haircut of 32%.”

Garbage, garbage, and more garbage. “Sure, bring us your old toasters, your lumpy mattresses, and your three-legged coffee table. We’ll give you cash for whatever you got. Cha-ching!”

Now, tell me, who in their right mind would give money to an indigent banker whose sole possessions are dodgy “B-rated” securitized auto loans, commercial real estate loans, or garbage mortgages?

This is a joke. The banks have no capital, and because of securitization and rehypothecation, they don’t even have any decent collateral left. All they have is a massively leveraged stinkpile of securitized ponzi-bonds that aren’t worth the paper they’re printed on.

And this is the system that China wants to duplicate.

    Why?

So, the 1 percent can scoop the cream off the top (like they did in the US and EU) before the whole thing blows up in their faces. That’s why.

Just so you have a better idea of how ridiculous the situation really is consider this: According to the Wall Street Journal, “Spanish banks took more than 230 billion euros of ECB’s three year loans”….from the 1 trillion euro allotment. Also from the WSJ: “Outstanding Spanish bank borrowing from the ECB totaled 325 billion euros in May, and banks there were heavy users of the ECB’s 3-year lending operations in December and February”.

So, Spain is getting money via the Emergency Liquidity Assistance (ELA) program, the Target2 program, the LTRO program and now it needs a straightforward bailout. When does it end? When do the eurocrats in Frankfurt and Brussels admit that the banks are busted and need to be restructured? Instead, all the red ink is being heaped on the state, which is widening the deficits and forcing a breakdown in all the social programs that assist workers, the sick, the elderly, and vulnerable…..And it’s all being done to protect the interests of a corrupt oligarchy of racketeers.,

  66. Dear respected Tun, a simple judgement to know whether the opposition can do better is to look at Anwar’s track record when he was a TPM and Finance Minister. He made blunders. Not even one ministry that he headed can be given credit. Many of our children especially the Malays now became English handicap due to his education policy when he change from English medium to Baku medium. When he was a Finance Minister, he increased interest rates on bank loans and credit cards where most of medium class citizens suffered. Given another chance, Anwar will ruin the country as this person is actually insane. Probably due to his wrongdoings previously and the hypocrisy character behind it. People should realise that the no 1 seat has some karamah in it. If a person are not truthful enough, he can’t get it. If a person betray to the country or character change after being given a chance to sit on it, he will eventually be thrown out. Pak Lah for example….But for Anwar, don’t give him a chance at all. He is actually one of the dajal that the prophet saw mentioned.

  67. Good evening,
Opposition parties all over the world will always promise you the moon and the sun and the stars but when the real crunch comes they will realise that it is virtually impossible to do so.
As with the incumbent, it is crucial that they walk the talk so that the voting rakyat can see and evaluate for themselves whether their so called “JANJI TELAH DITEPATI”
Blow your trumpet on what you have done but if it’s not effective nor is it helpful at all then do not say that the rakyat is ungrateful. We are all born with a brain so please do not insult us if we do not see things from your perspective. Always remember this saying : ONE MAN’S MEAT IS ANOTHER MAN’S POISON”
    I bid you all goodnight.

  68. Salam Tun dan pembaca budiman semua,
    1. Berjaya Books marah bila pengurus setornya seorang waniota Muslim didakwa kerana buku Irshad Manji. Kata mereka, pengurus itu hanya bertindak mengikut arahan mereka, bukan atas kehendaknya sendiri.

    2. Nampak cerita macam mudah dan straight forward.

    4. Allow me to give my ten-cents reminders to people from Berjaya Books or any other organisations operating in Malaysia for that matter before they open their mouths and show their arrogance unwittingly.

    5. Malaysia is a country with Islam as the federal religion. Have some sense if you do not want to take Muslim workers in the future.

    6. Perhaps packing up and leaving to other shores would be a better choice rather than staying put and stepping on people’s hearts.

    8. How do you think ‘other’ people would react if some Muslim based organisation were to say “this company would have to think really hard next time before we would take in any non-Muslim workers to work with us”.

I rest my case, Tun and all.
Marilah kita semua jaga diri dan jaga solat kita. Yang lelaki solat di mana azan dilaungkan, dan yang perempuan solat awal waktu.

  69. Tun

No one has noticed that of all the Opposition parties, it is the DAP that has reached the crossroads after years of following blindly the slogan coined by the gentleman from the Straits Settlements, ‘ Malaysia for Malaysians ‘!

As the DAP leadership draws its inspiration from only one person, and one person alone since its inception, any mistakes and mishaps so created must affect the credibility and standing of the DAP vis a vis its relationship mentally or materially with the Malaysian Chinese community in particular and all the Malaysians at large.

I am not referring to Lim Kit Siang who at the end of the day has shown his limitations on taking on an overview of the realpolitik in Malaysia by going into bed with strange bed fellows However, he thrived well in exploiting the standard 30 percentile of the electorate. Well-done !

I am referring to Lee Kuan Yew who claimed to have walked with the greats of the Third World, Nasser, Soekarno, Pandit Nehru etc.

And it is at the end of the day that all of us stand up to be counted and those with feet of clay will fall down !

And also what did he do to the tiny population of Singapore ?

Without a careful study of the demographics of the state, the 2 child policy was embarked upon from 1970 to 1980s. As far as we know, only two other states, both authoritarian states tinkered with their populations e.g. China and Hitler’s Germany.

The latter killed 4 million Jews alone and not counting those lost in the War and other nationalities. The former has cogent reasons for doing so.

And Singapore, a democratically acclaimed State had enforced on to its own population with Draconian measures like income tax penalties etc to reduce the birth-rate by democratically elected leaders, was the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights breached and in the process become the World’s First to do so ?

I should think so under Article 16 of the Declaration.

And there was not a squeak about this gross infringement of Human Rights by the great self-appointed advocates of Human Rights of our beloved country. How come ?

Facts are facts. Are the citizens of Malaysia to believe that the promises of freebies by the PR are trustworthy and to be trusted ? This is what I have been calling these magic shows with smoke and mirrors with the same magician hiding behind. It does not pay to ape others.

And the price the Singaporeans are paying today is the importation of millionaires like cattle from China and India to top up the reduce birth-rate ratio of 1.3. which had affected the demographics ! Sort of like rolling back history the Singapore Way !

Forever the 99 percentile of the Singaporean population will be the under-class – the slaves of the 1 percentile who hopefully will rule the roost.

For the admiring Malaysians of meritocratic Singapore and its vaunted leadership, when the Government found that the true and natural population of Singaporeans was fast disappearing into the wash (longkang), Hitlerite methods like boating parties of young people or groups of them were encouraged to play golf ( of all sports, I would have thought swimming parties would be more conducive to the agenda ).

No one complained about this waste of public funds because no one was able to think out of the box that the reason why sex, courtship and romance in Singapore have all been stifled by the leadership through the super efficient divorce laws of the State !

Rich boys and girls do not want to get married for fear that half of their wealth goes to the spouse who turns out to be a gold digger after a short marriage.

And this compounded by a society based on money only, turned its citizens to be selfish and exclusive and godless. Further, you throw into this a heady mix of inflation and the vaunted meritocracy – you would have effectively removed all the fun out of sex ! Malaysia Boleh !

So the society becomes Spartan which was predicted by S. Rajaratnam writing in the Singapore Business Times over 30 years ago – a sort of ‘ do it yourself ‘ society following the great campaign of the ‘ Rugged Society ‘ of the early 1970s ! Please do not laugh at your neighbours !

Those Singaporeans who did not want to fill in forms or pay more tax during that period ensconced themselves in beautiful homes in the beautiful environs of our beautiful capital city, Kuala Lumpur. There is even a special Singaporean owned kindergarten for them ! All welcome !

The above mentioned is only one aspect which I have high-lighted for the admirers of the DAP which draws its inspiration from some distant mirage. But facts are facts.

The best facts are those facts from Singapore!

Malaysian Chinese please think that the best you can do for yourselves, your children, your families and relatives, your work place mates and compatriots are to vote steadfastly for the BN – a proven entity for 55 years and not a temporary arrangement of strange bedfellows !

You get scared if you look at what is the truth behind the smoke and mirrors as dished out by the PR !

  70. Salam sejahtera Tun.

Memang benar apa yang Tun Ungkapkan Melayu Mudah Lupa.

    Terima kasih Tun

  71. My Beloved Dato’Seri,

It was your ‘Look East Policy’ that saw to us turning to Japan & Korea. It does not mean European goods are of lesser quality. Has it ever crossed your mind that Malaysians love the exterior more than the interior. It’s no longer about sustainability or durability. Its about the looks and a cheaper price. Hence Proton still sails on…Cantik Bergaya but don’t think even once about the quality and durabilty. After which you witness the new buyer getting his car tolled ever so often…and then we say to ourselves; ‘Aww Poor Bugger!’. But then we just can’t help falling for products because they look good. What’s the number one passion of a Malay Man? Mesti Kereta & Motor! And as my former civil servant father would say; ‘These Malay Men take their cars as their first wives!’

Now, Its only a reasonable expectation that we are entitled for long holidays, high overtime allowance, generous pensions and medical care etc. Which i must say that Malaysia is far behind. One of the major reason why Malaysians migrate is; (1) Better Health Care & Social Welfare, (2) Better Education for their Children, (3) Better Quality Of LIfe. These 3 areas where Malaysia has much short comings.

You have failed to recognize a very important business factor on why Europe is sinking financially. The answer is simply; It’s Geographical. Asia is where the money is simply because Europe finds that Asia is cheaper labour and cheaper cost and so the Europeans moved their concentration and business to Asia. With the less promising Euro and Pound, yes, Asia is going to further boom.

Holidays, overtime allowance, generous pensions and medical care are rights by birth, if we carefully think about it, it’s only humane to think so. One cannot expect Human Beings to function like Robots and We are NOT JEWS!

  72. Najib is good to think of a good strategy.
To shift the Malaysian public attention from his low support by orchestricing the protest outside Singapore High Commission.
Brilliant way to shore up Nationalist sentinent.

    Syabas Najib, syabas!!

  73. Tun

The EU is a creature of the centuries of warfare between European States in their struggle for hegemony over one another. In the end, the United States stood as overlord over the whole lot of them and has its military presence on German soil to this day since the end of the World War 2 in Europe in May 1945.

From then on, with a defensive umbrella provided by the United States against Soviet hegemony, the European States slowly recovered in a socialist sort of way to provide more social welfare for its under class the workers.

In Britain, the Conservatives under Winston Churchill were thrown out immediately after the end of the War and the Labour Party under Clement Attlee was voted in to fulfil their dream of a Socialist Utopia. High taxation and estate duties for the rich. Free education and health schemes were introduced and by the 1990s, there were difficulties in funding all the freebies provided by the Government. And during the last phase of these policies which originated way back in 1940s was compounded by the lop-sided emphasis on the acquisition of more and more wealth. This began in earnest during Margaret Thatcher’s Prime Ministership in the early 1980s with the Big Bang. This subject you rightly highlighted, Tun, in one of your earlier comments.

The shift from the production of goods to the creation of wealth in the City of London.

A similar scenario could be replicated in all the countries of the EU. More pay and fun and games for all.

It was the end of the Cold War which brought about the even lop-sided nature of Western European industrial economy with less demand for armaments. The United States carried on even though they were the victors. But eventually one of the cogs in this wonderful machine known an the political-military-industrial complex failed and the whole system was screwed up since 2007.

I believe one day someone will write on the great boom of the United States which really began with the baby boomers of America in the 1950s and its eventual collapse.

With only a small part of the world economic scenario as played by the experts, politicians, economists, Nobel Laureates, think-tanks, etc, Malaysia’s very own politicians, according to you, Tun, now want to give out freebies out of the Government’s coffers. That is the PR if they come into power.

Are we on the Moon or in Malaysia ?

Malaysia is very much a part of the world family of nations both in political and socio-economic terms. We are open to the fair or foul winds which blow right across our beloved land. Successive Governments till 2003 tried their best to balance the books because they understood the meaning of the duties and responsibilities of a Government which is to provide a big, big umbrella for its citizens in time of hardships or crises. This must be so.

It is irresponsible and downright dangerous to promise the Moon to the electorate to win votes.

Who is going to pick up the pieces thereafter ?

If I remember correctly, the highways were privatised because the private sector did a faster, more efficient and cheaper job than by the then cantankerous JKR. We see the successful result of your concept today. And this was decided 30 years ago.

At a drop of the hat, we are in 2012.

With our hiatus in politics and socio-ecomonic development in limbo since 2003, it pays for Malaysia to take a step backwards, reassess her position and return to normality.

The go-go years of your successful 22 year Administration have gone with the wind. This is the reality for the Government of the day.

Freebies as proposed by the PR – they must be joking in the face of a slowing economy, rising financial crises and the gathering black clouds of an impending financial storm.

A return to normality is a must to reduce ever over-expectations of everything in a country like Malaysia – which depends on revenue earned mainly from exports – hardwork and efficiency.

Nowadays, a year is a very short time in world economics.

Therefore, the focus of the Government as stressed by you Tun must be on the provision of jobs, housing, education and best but not least of all, the expectations of a good future for the citizens of Malaysia.

A return to the mean or normality in all things we do is a must to recover our balance and create a more enduring ballast for the country.

Again, Malaysian Chinese, it is in your hands to vote for BN to provide solid and sensible policies for the benefit of all. BN had done so for over 50 years.

Do not overlook the fact that by saving a few ringgits from the tolls, you may be embroiled to lose much more elsewhere.

Who can tell ? Who knows ?

  74. Assalamualaikum Tun,

I think for the Muslim nations its really easy to know who are their enemies and who are not. Just look who protects and have diplomatic ties with Israel are the enemies of Muslims. As simple as that. It is ironic, China for example, always being branded as the bad guy in the international media, and in Hollywood movies, is actually a strong supporter of Palestinians rights and independence.

On the other hand, the US, being the world police and so called leader of the free world, is a strong supporter of Israel, be it financially and militarily. It was the US that have vetoed every single UN resolution to condemn Israel for its brutality against the Palestinians.

I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Mohammed Morsi of the Muslim Brotherhood on being elected President of Egypt. Who would have thought a member of the Muslim Brotherhood, long to be considered outcasts in the previous secular Egypt, would now be President of Egypt. Alhamdulillah. I do hope Mohammed Morsi would uphold the Al-Quran and the As-Sunnah when governing Egypt. Seek its guidance on to how to deal with Israel, who have killed so many innocent Palestinian man, woman and child.

Should Egypt continue respecting the peace treaty with Israel and allow Israel to continue its massacre of Palestinians? Should Egypt continue the blockade of allowing medicines and food from entering Palestine?

True, the US will stop funding cash to Egypt, but I think its worth the price than to make friends with Israel and allow Israel to continue its massacre of Palestinians.

And so Israel has three Muslim nations it has to deal with i.e Turkey, Iran and now Egypt. Previously it was able to control these Islamic nations by controlling its leaders via the US.

Will the US pivot back to the middle east with this new development? Clearly the US army cannot be at two places at the same time to exert its influence. Flip flop Mr. Obama?

  75. Dear Tun,

    You said

“12. Is there a lesson in this for Malaysia? I think there is. We in Malaysia like to live well. If we cannot pay for it then we can ask the Government to pay. We believe the Government has unlimited amounts of money to pay for everything.”

You said we believe the Government has unlimited amounts of money to pay for everything. No, Tun, you are wrong there. It is the Opposition propaganda and lip service to make the people hate the Government by saying the Government is not doing enough. They can do better. To make their promises believable they cook and concoct plausible reasons. They say Anwar Ibrahim was a genius Finance Minister and the boom was during his watch as the best Finance Minister ever. The Opposition brainwashed the voters by saying that the wealth of this nation has been squandered by UMNO politicians nicknamed UMNOPUTRA. The Malays at large do not gain from the government of UMNO. Only UMNO Malays and Chinese and Indians cronies benefit from mega projects.

    amin tan
