2. Four European countries including United Kingdom and Italy have debts of more than 1 trillion dollars.
3. The Governor of the Bank of England has advised printing money to overcome Britain’s financial crisis. This is a great idea. When you lose money just print money to make up for the losses. The United States had printed 300 billion USD to bail out banks and overcome the crisis. Of course if Malaysia had printed Ringgits to pay off debts during the financial crisis we would be soundly condemned. No one would accept our Ringgit and we would be bankrupted. But rich countries apparently can print money to pay debts.
5. Their wealth was not real because it is the result of gambling in the financial market. Believing that they were rich they paid themselves, including their workers very high salaries and bonuses.
6. But they did less and less work, limiting themselves to five days (35 hours) in a week. They enjoy long holidays. Working on holidays earns them double pay and quadruple for overtime.
7. They have unemployment benefits up to 90% of their previous pay.
8. Workers cannot be dismissed even if they don’t do any work.
9. Workers go on strike every now and then, or they work to rule.
10. Productivity is very low, which of course means their products are costly and cannot compete in the market.
11. The crisis they are facing today is the result of their living beyond their means.
12. Malaysia wishes to become a high-income economy. We are busy increasing wages and salaries. Already our labour cost is higher than all ASEAN countries except Singapore.
13. Growth comes from investments. When we are costly investors local or foreign will not invest.
14. But like the Europeans we are working less. We now work five days a week, adding 52 days to our national holidays numbering sixteen plus 52 Sundays.
15. We have now added more holidays including Wesak, Taipusam, Federal Territory Day, Awal Ramadhan, Nuzul Al Quran, Malaysia Day and numerous state holidays.
16. When the holiday falls on Sunday or Saturday we replace with Monday. This gives us three days holiday. We can take one day unrecorded leave on Friday and get four days holiday.
17. But sometimes two or three different holidays fall within one week. With a little arrangement one can extend it to one week or even nine days.
18. What it means is that we are working less days but our income (wages, pay) must be higher. The cost of producing goods or services is now higher. There is no evidence of increase in productivity. We are quickly falling into the trap into which the Europeans have fallen. And we are not even a developed country.
19. I may be wrong but I think we are headed for the kind of financial and economic crisis that the Europeans are in. Incidentally holidays bring death to thousands of travellers.
20. God save Malaysia.
Salam Tun.
Initially I’m disappointed when my reply to that Hanan’s errant boy dtan’s comments was rejected. Hence I’ll tone down on my remarks about dtan, so that he has the opportunity to read my comments and to study for himself why he’s a supermoron (if only he actually has the brain capacity to adjudge himself, just like that ‘neutral’ student juks @joker boy!).
Hi ‘dtan’ (whoever or whatever you are).
I wonder if all the replies that you had provided were supposedly on behalf of Hanan the jew, and with his concurrence?
You see, if Hanan did agree to all those nonsence that you’ve written, then Hanan must be a moron himself!
I’ll just give SOME of the very obvious instances that you’ve written which clearly showed you’ve been trying very hard to tell us, that is, you are a moron:
1. You volunteered to be the errant boy for Hanan the jew, how embarrassing
2. Recently you unashamedly wrote to tell everyone “Hanan called you”, which was of no significance to the comments you were writing then! You must be very proud telling everyone “Hey guys, Hanan knows me!” Big deal, eh?
3. You’ve been trying very hard to tell the world through Tun’s blog that “I’m a Christian preacher”, but are you truly a Christian?
Any true Christian won’t be that stupid to go around telling everyone repeatedly “I’m a Muslim hater!”
Once, a Christian blogger even harshly questioned your belief in Christianity, since your comments were very unbecoming that of a Christian believer!
4. Hanan believes in Judaism, in the teachings of Moses. However you keep referring Hanan with Jesus, associating Hanan and Jesus!
5. Your reply to my comment “What about the more than 1 million dead Iraqis that resulted from the US invasion on the pretext of WMD which the jews wrongly-fed on purpose to Bush & Blair…” clearly showed that
“You certainly agreed that THE JEWS HAD INDEED WRONGLY-FED ON PURPOSE TO BUSH & BLAIR ON THE WMD STORY!!! “
You just wait when the jews find out about it, and ready yourself to face the Mossad killing squad!
How could it be possible for an ex-israel leader of Hanan’s stature to be associated with such moron!!
I can’t imagine how the other jews will react if they realize their ex-leader Hanan has a moron like you as his companion!
By the way dtan, just out of curiousity, what does the letter ‘d’ before ‘tan’ stand for? I won’t be surprised if your answer is going to be “d is for donkey”.
Maybe Hanan the jew should start looking for a new errant boy!
I definitely won’t recommend that neutral joker boy ‘juks’ to the post because he behaves almost in similar manner to dtan, another moron! But the joker can be excused for being most ignorant since he’s only a student.
Dear Tun,
Like you mention the gambling in the financial market bringing wealth to the European but then why the government send so many of the bumi student under JPA scholarship to those university that encourage people to learn about ways to get best and most return on every cent invested? Another of the ‘mencurah air ke daun keladi’ argument from you.
Further the price of homes in KL is reaching millions which is hyperinflation already, you still seek for cheap labour.
You know people in bank, their treasury department trader been getting insane amount of bonus for the past 7 years due to the return they made from trading in financial market. Maybe our country will also become like the European country where wealth from gambling in financial market, even BNM themselves trade. Even EPF trade like crazy in the stock market. When you say the European gamble in financial market is like ‘ketam mengajar anak berjalan sedangkan sendiri pun jalan terkedek kedek’.
You mention low productivity but you also have to look at the most famous GLC, Proton(changing hand among GLC only) who are suppose to be the pride of the nation is producing cars. You can see how the Toyota produced car with such efficiency ie number of staff is low and their productivity and profit is high, can a GLC like Proton become the first to lead the way to change the nation into a high productivity examples? If not, then there is no point of asking for higher productivity.
I can see there is none of the comment that you ever responded except that HANAN guy/gal. So I can also opinion that you never read any of the comment except for HANAN.
Dear Tun,
Among all of your post, this is the one that make sense or the one that less annoying among all. Yes, I agreed to the low producticity although there immensely incentive to the government servants to be productive.
But Malaysia is a country where there is no political maturity. There is no such thing as fiscal conservative nor liberal on social issue championed by any politician in Malaysia. The only method for them to win support from the people is to lavish them with subsidy, holidays and incentive which are mind boggling as where they get the input to pay for all this.
So your argument that we are getting more lazy by working less and more holiday, but you have to look at the fact that the present government have given the holidays, subsidy and incentive to win the support of the people and they need to win the next General Election, so your argument is like the malay proverb ‘ mencurah air ke daun keladi’.
There’s one hopeful presidential candidate of Russia, <a href=http://mdp2012.ru/faq/ title=Mikhail Prokhorov have mention about Malaysia achievement in his website which will make you proud.
The excerpt as per the following;
Translation in english;
What sectors should be developed in the first place, to remove Russia from the oil needle?
We need to move on to advanced processing, to develop engineering, consumer electronics, aircraft, infrastructure and so on. We must first become a successful industrial country capable of producing most of the necessary goods. Look at South Korea, in China, Malaysia, they were going this way. While we were flying into space, they were feudal states. And now we buy their products.
We can not go directly to the next higher model without industrial technology platform without becoming self-sufficient, not starting to make themselves all that we need for life. You can not go to university after the seventh grade.

Protecting 8 million ( 1 million Arabs, 1 million others, 6 million jews)
ultimately is Israels prerogative. Tun polemical arguments inregards to
Iran obtaining 1 or 2 nukes ‘nak main sikit-sikit’ is wrong.
Israel is way too small to absorb 1 or 2 nuclear strikes. It takes no more
than an hour or two to get from one end to the other. I know, i was there.
Like Tun said there are 1.5 billion Muslims to reckon with. Ahmadinejad
has balanced the equation and does not care if a million Arabs die, in the

War with Iran has already begun albeit covertly. The difference is the

We have an enemy by the name of Hanan who is sympathizing or pretending to sympathize in order to further provoke the Syrian uprising. All and sundry can see through your evil charade. You eloquently asked who are the evil ones or the evil owners. May I venture to guess the answers which you may already know. The CIA and MOSSAD(the israeli secret police) that help finance , ferment, instigate and train the Arab traitors to rebel against their own countries to the delight and satisfaction of Israel and America. Divide and rule. Now you have the river of blood, or may be a pound of flash(Merchant of Venice), in whose hands? Wallahu alam.

Salam Tun.
It’s becoming more obvious now this zionist Hanan the jew is very worried and/or envious of all the good things that relate to Dr. M’s greatness.
Probably due to:
1. Dr. M is not jewish, or
2. Dr. M can undermine Anwar the sex maniac from becoming the next M’sian PM that the jews hope to fully succumb to their wishes, or
3. there’s no parallel from onyone, including jews, when considering the worldly influence still attributed by an 87-year-old retired statesman, especially in the Muslim world, or
4. all of the above.
I’m intrigued on the intelligence of this ex-leader Hanan; a few thousand deaths to those few Muslim countries he mentioned and it caused him to make that stupid assumption “they are not happy”! Many of those deaths were directly instigated by western/jewish interference, and he has the cheek to accuse the unhappiness there which were intentionally created by them!
That joker boy ‘juks the neutral moron’ will probably buy his story. Hanan can then give him a red carpet ‘welcome-home joker baby’ when the latter decided to migrate to Tel Aviv, (because he is a reclusive in Malaysia, and not even a single of his own type is giving open support for him)!
What about the more than 1 million dead Iraqis that resulted from the US invasion on the pretext of WMD which the jews wrongly-fed on purpose to Bush & Blair (B&B for babi)?
Oi Hanan,
If Tun M is not happy about so many things it is his problem but he did not kill children and people of Palestine and rob their homeland???? Agree ?????
This is his blog so Tun M can write anything he likes. You zionist have no shame and always hide behind the US and the UN. Cowards.
As of Syrian Government, the news about the so-called massacre comes from Jews-controlled news…..Did you read about the sufferings of the Palestinians in any of the Zionist-controlled news ??? Definitely no such reports.
How is Ariel Sharon doing ? Still suffering from the SINS of killing Palestinians kids ??? HA HA HA . I want him to suffer for many more years. May he rot in hell….
It is an eye-opener that Russia and China veto-ed the Syrian Resolution. Not a repeat of Libya, was the Russian reason as reported.
Now, with the peacekeepers, Dr. Mahathir – who will dare do the job?

You are forgetting that holidays encourage spending. Malaysians love to jalan jalan, drive long journeys and obviously they spend. Service industries and shopping malls are open as they make good incomes during public holidays. In this way, Holidays does significantly contribute to the Malaysian Economy. And please lah we are not a bunch of Kiasu Singaporeans to spend our entire lives working and slogging! What is the meaning to life if you spend it all on work? And finally we die without really enjoying what we have worked for and made.
In my 31 years of life, i’ve never experienced a public holiday which falls on a Saturday being replaced on a Monday. It only happens if it falls on a Sunday. We Malaysians LOVE our Public Holidays and due to the location of our country, our business and bilateral ties, our natural resources, etc…We are indeed very Blessed. That is why, many of our leaders have been sucking on public funds yet the country as a whole seems to be doing well.
So we must end corruption by at least 70% and we will be absolutely safe and sound while we enjoy our lovely holidays & off course Cuti-Cuti Malaysia! We are not Ministers who can take a flight out for a short holiday for four to five days. So obviously most of us will be Cuti-ing inside the country!
Assalamualaikum.
Nothing to say about that? Isn’t this bothering the religion of peace followers?

Assalamualaikum Dr. Mahathir.
It is interesting to read that everything is bothering you, but not the butchery of the Syrian president Assad of his own people.
Where is your Muslims’ brotherhood to do something against that massacre? You were so fast to react in your blog during the Gaza war telling your fans and people how monstrous Israel is committing human crimes. You sponsored a flotilla of aid to Gaza, to the poor Gazans massacred by the Zionist IDF. You cared about the cold winter in Gaza.
Now, your Muslim brothers are butchered daily by other Muslim brothers, and even not a whisper is heard. Can’t you compare the cold winter of Gaza with the rivers of blood in Syria?
Antisemitism and hypocrisy is the main motive of your reactions against Israel. How can you tolerate Muslims massacred by Muslims? I know you have no tolerance to Jews who kill Muslims during a mutual war (not a brothers war like in Syria).
Your attitude is very similar to this example:
The Muslims are not happy!…
They’re not happy in Gaza.
They’re not happy in Egypt.
They’re not happy in Libya.
They’re not happy in Morocco.
They’re not happy in Iran.
They’re not happy in Iraq.
They’re not happy in Yemen.
They’re not happy in Afghanistan.
They’re not happy in Pakistan.
They’re not happy in Syria.
They’re not happy in Lebanon.
So, where are they happy?
They’re happy in Australia.
They’re happy in England.
They’re happy in France.
They’re happy in Italy.
They’re happy in Germany.
They’re happy in Sweden.
They’re happy in the USA.
They’re happy in Norway.
Yes, and they’re happy in Israel.
They’re happy in every country that is not Muslim.
And who do they blame?
Not Islam.
Not their leadership.
Not themselves.
THEY BLAME THE COUNTRIES THEY ARE HAPPY IN!
THEY BLAME THE WEST AND ISRAEL!
THEY BLAME THE ZIONISTS!
AND THEY WANT TO CHANGE THEM TO BE LIKE THE COUNTRY THEY CAME FROM WHERE THEY WERE UNHAPPY.
I hope I provided you, your fans and followers some material to think of. open your eyes and you’ll address where evil is and who is evil. Evil are the people who commit a massacre as well as those silent people who watch the massacre, eating their meals and sleeping on their soft pillow at night. Allah will judge you according to how you stand on the good principals and firm against evil no matter who is the evil owner.
Wassalam.
The US, EU and Japan have been printing money for years and Japan has a much higher level of debt that the US or EU at around 200%. The question that remains is why do countries like China and Malaysia continue to hold vast reserves of these currencies while ranting on about money printing and debt?
If they didn’t hold these currencies or continue to finance the operations of these countries it would put so much upward pressure on their exchange rates that they wouldn’t be able to keep the swathes of people in employment. In the context of Malaysia this has the potential to spark race riots. Let’s face it, the only real attraction of Malaysia for investors is cheap labour and natural resources and it is unlikely Malaysia can make the transition to a higher income and value added economy with politicians who after decades still “don’t seem to get it”.
An absolute shame, because it doesn’t look like the rhetoric, attitude and political climate is going to change any time soon.
While totally agreeing with you, the next question is how do we address the issue, given the reluctance to forego what we are used to. Of course, the government has a number of policy instruments at its disposal, but acceptance by the ‘rakyat’ is crucial, especially with the PRU around the corner. Strategy and approach is vital.
For example, roadshows and announcements which emphasize the windfall gains for JUSA officers will definitely garner their full support for the SBPA and the government. The same should not be taken for granted for those in the lower ranks and the masses (including the temporary and contract workers as well as the pensioners), whose votes definitely outnumber those of the elites.
Finally, it is indeed high time for government agencies & ministries to seriously follow up on the issues raised in the website/blog of the respective ministers including the PM.
Instead of blindly acceding to Opposition demands and declaring Malaysia Day a holiday for example we could have more imaginatively moved National Day to Sept 16, which would have reflected an appropriate sacrifice on our part and the spirit of national unity. This is the quality of leadership we have, driven by petty demands instead of deep thinking or integrity of vision.
God save our country!
ALLAH IS THE PROVIDER
HE GIVES US NATURE ,RESOURCES FROM SEA,LAND,AIR
TO PROVIDE FOR OUR NEEDS
OUR NOW SAID INTERNATIONAL ADVANCE ECONOMY
WAS DISRUPTED BY OUR GREED
THUS DESTROY MOTHER NATURE
THAT NOW AFFECTS OUR OZONE
IT,S WRITTEN IN THE QURAN
HUMAN TECHNOLOGY DOES NOT LAST
IT EVEN HAVE EFFECTS
WESTERN ECONOMIST PROVIDES QUALITY PRODUCT
THAT ON THE SURFACE IT,S QUITE UNAFFORDABLE TO MANY
ASIANS,CHINA PRODUCE QUANTITY THAT MOST LEADS TO WASTE FOR MUCH EFFORTS PUT AT THE EXPENSE OF NATURE
LIKE WE CAN SEE HERE IN MALAYSIA
WE PRODUCE MASS FOOD
WITH THE PRETEXT TO MINIMISE THE OVERHEADS AND TO OVERRITE COMPETITION
SUCH WE FIND WAYS TO DISPOSE THIS PRODUCE THU OUR TECNIQUE OF MARKETING CHEATING
FAILURE OF SUCH,WE KEEP IN OUR STORE
WHICH BECAME A SORE EYE
AND LATER IF ITS NOT DISPOSE PROPERLY
IF BECAME SORE EYE AND AGAIN CONTAMINATE THE EARTH
THE END IS A WASTE
WE NEED TO STABLIZE
IN BETWEEN HUMAN NEEDS AND HUMAN GREEDS
UNITED NATION
EVERY NATIONS MUST PLAY A ROLE ON THESE STABLIZATIONS
THE CAUSE OF HUMAN GREED AT THE EXPENSE OF MOTHER NATURE HAS CAUSE THE OZONE
THE DISRUPTION OF WEALTH AND HEALTH
WHAT,S THE POINT IF A DEVELOP NATION CAN HAVE HIGH TECH MEDICAL INSTITUTIONS
WHEN THEY ALSO HAVE HIGH TECH SICKNESS
LIKE HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE,HEART ATTACK ETC
WHEN A THIRD WORLD NATIONS DID NOT HAVE THESE MUCH HIGH TECH SICKNESS
THE CHOICE IS OURS
WE JUST NEED TO BE CLEAN
THE WAY WE WANT IT TO BE
My views
World economy has been disrupted by Human Greed
Western produce quality product but much expensive price
That leads to unaffordable price on the surface
Asian,China produce quantity of much cheaper price
Much affordable but practically much to waste also
Due to undurable, shorter life span for much efforts made
Sometimes is just buying for nothing
We have to admit when force nature to produce
We are disposing more waste
Competition makes us more greedy at the expense of mother nature. We compete aggresively, the loser will dump their losses to the bin
For instances food producer
Co A produce in mass Banana,to reduce the cost
Force nature by technology means
Co B to compete also do the same, forcing nature again and forcing sale by many technique
End of the day 1 win and the other lose
So the loser will dump to the dustbin as much we can see now
Much of produce of food, electronic product, and many other product was stored for years ending in selling cheap or being dispose or recycle.
It is much of wastage that matters me most
We should produce to our need instead of to our greed
Our greed has destroy nature and ozone
I hope United Nation,Human Civilization to look into this facts
To stablize between Human Needs and Human Greed

Salam Sejahtera Yg Bhg Tun,
Holidays mean spendings. Peoples tend to spend especially during holidays to buy things i.e foods, clothes, furnitures, cuti-cuti Malaya, repair cars, repairs houses, buy new cars etc. Thus, all type of products produced are consumed and create continous demands at all times. Demands create supplies. This will be good for markets, goods manufacturers and producers, shopping complex owners and etc. The money shall circulate from the peoples to the product producers and to the banks also to the Governments through tax revenues and back to the peoples again.
Last time, a lot of big projects were KIVed with the intention of savings maybe. But the moves were a bit unfortunate as these just contracted the demands and thus the supplies. No good businesses for factories and manufacturers. No good for employment rates. And also no good tax revenue to the Government. Less tax revenue just create slow general national developments.”
This is a very interesting piece of textbook theory of multiplier effect. Economic welfare of a nation also depend on perception and psychology of the population or voters. The investment whether by the government or private sectors is called injection or stimulation with the intention to stamp recession or unemployment of idle resources which are unnecessarily depressing and wasteful.
That is exactly what our present Barisan National government is doing. To prevent the negative effect of European recession that may spread our way, we are giving out rm500 per family that has monthly income below rm3000. This will in turn create demand and multiplier effect to stimulate investment and create jobs. May I congratulate the bold and dynamism of the current government to implement such visionary and excellent stimulation package for the voters of Malaysia.

Instead of just financing building of homes, EPF should directly build them as suggested by MTUC. What a dumb suggestion indeed.
To MTUC, stick to what you know best and stop making stupid public comments because that will leave a bad impression on your image. EPF has no time to think of how much concrete and nails needed to build houses.

I have a friend who complaint to me how life in Malaysia is full of hardship. He said our life is filled with never ending struggle and difficult to enjoy it like the Westeners do. Well, I guess Malaysian still have very much to do before they can become developed and relax like the Westerners.
When I was there in England we can see that somehow the Mat Salleh also need to work to earn a living but they enjoyed luxurious perks and benefit provided by the Government.
Malaysian is talking about the same thing. The Opposition is using this now to lure the voters. Free toll, tax free, low price goods, heavy subsidy everywhere, twice a year vacation, big bonuses, bla bla bla.. In addition to this, people are talking about liberisation. This will allow people to do whatever nonsense they want to do using human rights as an excuse.
But now we know that the luxurious ‘no-boundary’ living potrayed by the Westerners were somewhat ‘artificial’. While people thought they are liberising themselves, they fell into the trap of New World Order and without realising it submitting themselves to a single regime controlling the world. One would never think that the champion of human rights can also be a mass murderer killing hundred of thousand of women and child.
Maybe Malaysian do have to work a little harder and less vacation like the Westerners do. But if we can keep up, we may establish a sustainable nation, peace and harmony. We should also reject any values which is not suitable and inconsistent with the practice of good faith.
I say we ‘Can”. Malaysian way…..
For me it’s simple, if you want perfect country then all our organisation should work perfectly, we should not blame the youngster only for their demand of high income but at the other’s side of perspective is not balance.
What is other side of perspective?
Agencies corruption, I’m not aiming at government only but to all agencies. Corruption come with a price, and when it happen, productivity will go down and it can influence others not to be competitiveness. Like they always think, if they can do that, why not me.
Price is at a very high stake. This should be maintain by the government but if factor one applied, then there were no solution to this. If there were no solution, don’t blame others not to be competitiveness. Everyone should play their role in this. But this is not totally in our control right? Therefore we cannot shape it but just maintain. Until when and what rate? You answer.
Leaders moral. There was a saying, children will look in an image of their parents. It’s the same for citizens and their leaders. If one of them apply factor one and didn’t care about factor two and for sure other’s will do the same and accept the fate that we are only who we are. Are you sure you’re competitiveness but at the other hand, you were only manipulated by others? rest assured your fate has been determine.
Races issues. Solute this first, then we can talk about competitiveness. The problem is we cannot, we will not and we will never do this. If not believe, we can ask people to answer. There will be no solution to this forever. I also didn’t want to do this if it’s not beneficiary me.
In conclusion, our country fate is not determine by one hand but by many, therefore we should accept fate when the time comes. The only concern here is we just can maintain it but we cannot shape it. So what we can do to shape it? We cannot, only fate can shape it for us.
Therefore don’t blame one side for mistake to happen, blame ourself and all involve to make mistake happen.
One man cannot change the future of the countries, it should be all of us.
Like in Smallville when Lana Lang ask young Clark Kent about his destiny. Are you a man or Superman? Clark Kent will answer
not decided yet, but with all the event that he involves, then he already become one. Thank you.
salam Tun,
sorry to be off topic but I can’t help it..
The esteemed title of MAHAFIRAUN should be conferred to Nicky Ajis, Hadiboy and Lim Kit Siang Malam for staying on after their shelves life span have expired! Woi… retire gracefully lah before people kick you all out!
Classic case of mengata dulang paku serpih mengata orang dia yang lebih hahaha…
shame on them! please follow example and precedent set by Tun! A REAL gentleman stand by his words and retires completely!
and please do not copy LKY who continues to steer PAP from behind the curtains until he die as MM. Making a mockery out of himself! Definitely will die with his boots on!
and I feel we should also confer the bestowed title of MAHA ULAR to Kapal Sing for his role in successfully defending MAHA SEX MANIAC Bro Anwar Bin Ibrahim or B.A.B.I.

We can be different
Not allow foreign influnce to mould our life
We have the resources
We need to put matters at the right place,at the right time, with the right people
To make a chemistry to make happen, our way of progress, not much depending on others
Yes western world, united states has been taking a ride on us
At our expense,of giving them benefits
They create something out of nothing to gain
Supported by their military, economic influnces so as to guide to their benefits.
We worked daily,more working hours
Yet we do not had enough
Its a call for more productivity,be more different, more of using the brains than ambitions.
When we anticipate to their changes,we are anticipating to thier benefits,we should care more of our interest instead
Hard work is a key to success
It need also a good brains, dare to make changes to make the difference.
We need chemistry
As in the right people to moves forward
To do our ways, our ways, our culture
Our wanting of how we want it to be
Not what they want it to be
Salam Tun,

Tun, you are right to make these statements but we cannot fault what is developing so far. We cannot stagnant. Costs of goods keep increasing too. If you look at China, Burma, Laos & many other countries, their labor cost is much, much lower than ours. Soon they will want to increase as well and I won’t be surprised if it surpassed ours soon.
In Malaysia, like any human being, we want advancement. Whether in politics, social or technological. There are 2 ways to tackle it for our country. Either we artificially stay down in wages or salaries at all times or we advance like what we are doing now. The latter is natural. The former will not work as cost in production global increases.
Tun, you mention Singapore but you did not distinguished their position compared to Malaysia. Singapore has intelligently changed & positioned itself to a ‘managerial’ role while our industry is more physical. Meaning, if there is any worldwide changes, it is easier for Singapore to change than us. We manufacture Sony TVs but there is a downward demand for them as the Koreans TV tube or flat screen is in demand and superior. Therefore there is a downward demand in these Sony TVs and may close down the factories or require modification (creativity or modernisation).
Singaporeans are merely pen-pushers and change order to the Samsung maufacturers. Their higher education standard is also proven & acceptable worldwide, thus their skills are all-rounder. Education in Malaysia is poorly behind many, many countries. Even Chinese universities are highly coveted.
“Just curious here,
Does anybody here not follow alternative media? As so called well informed citizens as ppl play out over here, do we not have feel the need to hear both sides?”
Juks,
Why do you assume that nobody here does not do so? You’re free to do so and obviously you did. Congratulations to you then.
Tun
It is appropriate for you to bring up this subject at the present time. It is also good that you could bring up interesting and current topics for discussion and the general knowledge of our fellow citizens – there are not many in this country who can think out of a box because vanity overwhelms them.
There is an ancient saying ‘ If you have peace and harmony at home, then you can fight in the streets with success.’
A country is like home or a corporation where the Perdana Menteri is like the head of the household. Many people asked me through the years how do I gauge the value of the Malaysian ringgit ? I simply answered that a person should judge the ringgit by the actions of the Government as in any household or corporation. This maybe simplistic but this is how my mind works.
Not many of us are aware that Germany, Japan and parts of Italy were completely flattened through the ‘carpet bombing’ strategy of the Allies which won the World War II against the Axis powers. War in Europe ended in May 1945. By chance, I visited Munich, Germany in 1956, 11 years later. You would not believe it. That city was still in ruins and parts of it completely flattened. There were flocks of German workers quietly cycling to work at 6 a.m. in the morning. A similar spectacle in 2000 was observed by me in Beijing when I visited the city for the first time. Today, we have Germany and China as two world class economic powerhouses.
To achieve such renowned status, countries such as these have to work hard with less ‘cuti-cuti’ not only to feed our families but in the process from more productive work, contribute to the economic success of our beloved country. There are no two ways about this as we are born to work for our families and not to enjoy ourselves. This is one way of achieving greatness through deliberate hard-work. But in practice, we achieve a mean or average if we have a monitoring unit in the Government. Too many holidays will surely put the country down the slippery slope to a lower socio-economic status – a form of hara-kiri.
However, there is another form of self-destruct which is more elaborate and complicated for a person to notice.
A country recently lost a huge amount of its reserves in the form of its citizens trust money on Wall Street. The snowball effect of this accidental loss was/is pervasive. She literally lost her independence from the big boys when one of their ambassadors even hinted that it was appropriate for this country to move closer to the United States. I would have thought it was close enough but did not realise much more could be done. Today, a piece of news appeared that this country signed 3 Treaties with the United States to assist in the Lower Mekong Delta with personnal and that these 2 countries meet once annually. In other words, this country by the huge loss of money in 2008 has become a little brother to Big Brother ! As they say ‘Money takes all !’ No more talking down to them.
From the deepest recesses of my heart, I hope Malaysia will not end up like ‘little brother’.
Our biggest problem is DEBT.. we should have never spent above our means.. Government should stop encouraging debt.. Debt got us into this problem and paper money is worth nothing..
http://newkidontheblog-feru.blogspot.com/p/truth-about-money.html
milshah,
Personally, the economic model in the west is greatly flawed. I have never mentioned that we should learn from them economically. It is obvious with whats going on in the eurozone. Ppl in the states live off credit for christ sake. Why would that be a model for us to follow? I am saying that there is indeed other goodness from western culture and have provided certain examples. You dont have to follow the complete UK model to run Msia. That is plain stupidity. Every country is diff in its own way. However, wouldnt you like learn how to beat corruption from the best countries? Cops here are well paid and respected. Espc, the civil servants. In Msia, civil servants are looked down upon as they dont get paid well, they resort to abuse of power and corruption. SO, no servants back home get no respect. It is more of a sign of fear perhaps.
Less tax revenue just create slow general national developments.
The cost of producing goods or services is now higher…
Salam Tun,
It is exactly what is happening in Malaysia now. Our young generation is asking for more pays, mourning for more jobs and demanding for less working days @ shorter working hours.
We can only see and observe what will happen next…even though it is pretty obvious what will happen anyway.
Thanks,
Dear Tun, I agree with you on the Malaysian low productivity.I wonder if this low productivity would also encompasses the policy makers and politicians. The low productivity of the policy makers would also result in economical disaster. The wages in Singapore is nearly 2 times that of in Malaysia, but their manufacturing sector is strong ( they overtook us in the medical, aerospace and electronic manufacturing technologies, at least in terms of dollars), but why?Perhaps Singapore has high productivity policy makers?
Dearest YAB & diKasihi Tun,
Moral of the story: We must live within/below our means. “Ukur baju di badan sendiri.”
As for the holidays, I agree with Tun. We have too many holidays. In addition, most workers stop working while there are on holidays even though some work can be done at home. In other words, they work less, and produce less because most of them are producing results at the SAME RATE. But most are asking for higher salaries for less work/results. I believe even a rich company/country can go bankrupt if this continues.
Thanks Tun.
*** May Allah SWT bless Tun and family ***
Assalamualaikum Tun,
If I had known better I would say this article is in response to one of the commentators i.e Jukes. Just the previous two three articles he was commenting how great it is the West in particular the UK. I almost believed him. Now we know the UK and other western countries are in debt in the trillions to support a high lifestyle. Seems to me the West is not a good model for us to follow after all. There is a malay saying “Hujan emas di negeri orang, hujan batu di negeri sendiri. Lebih baik negeri sendiri”.
My take on this is our Gross Domestic Product has shown an increase base on year on year. This means our total national production had increased. There is yet an analysis that show the many holidays had impacted production so much so that production decreased.
I do admit we have many holidays, but I remember working at a plant one time in Paka Teregganu, and it was Hari Raya. The plant was operating as normal even during the Raya holidays. At the end of the day, companies are profit motivated. If it means that the plants need to run during holidays to get higher profits, than so be it.
In practicality, I don’t think we can reduce the holidays in Malaysia. The reason for the many holidays is every race have there own special holidays that they celebrate. We can’t reduce the holidays without incurring the anger from the race that celebrate that special holiday. This is the problem of a country like Malaysia that is multiracial and multireligious.
With regard to having a high income society, I think what is more important is having a higher purchasing power. For example, it is better if a person with only RM100 can purchase one trolly of food, than a person who has RM100 but could only afford to use that money to buy a whole chicken only.
I think having a high income is a good effort by the government to help the rakyat, but it must go hand in hand at combating inflation. Prices of food and other necessities must not increase so much that it will reduce the purchasing power of the people.
I do agree that the West have been overzealous in pampering their people so much they are now heavily in debt. But we can see Germany remains unaffected even though Germans lifestyle is comparable to other western countries. The reason being Germany has a huge trade surplus. This means that Malaysia can have a high income society but it must go hand in hand with higher production. Production must also increase to ensure a healthy trade surplus.
We can see how China became an economic powerhouse by having a huge cheap labor population together with cheap currency that is more or less fixed. This ensure China’s products are extremely competitive which explains why China have the biggest trade surplus in the world. Indeed, most of the products in world are coming from China. Even China foreign reserves are in the trillions.
Which bring us to the question, can Malaysia afford to follow the China model? Even now, people are complaining about the high cost of living. The government have even included to try to reduce the cost a living as part of the KPI to help lessen the burden of the rakyat. A person earning RM2,000 is just able to meet ends meet living in Kuala Lumpur. If we were to try to follow the China model, to reduce labour cost, we should cut the wages by say 50%. Thus, the person earning RM2,000 would be reduced to RM1,000. This would enhance Malaysia’s competitiveness due to lower wages but it would bring resentment and angry among the rakyat.
We have seen how high cost of living have caused massive riots and demonstration in other countries like Greece, France and Italy. Even during the 1997 financial crisis, there was massive riots in Thailand and Indonesia. We know from these experiences, that when cost of living goes up, the rakyat is burdened, then they first they will blame will be the government.
Therefore, there is a trade off here. The government can increase the competitiveness by reducing the wages at the expense of making the rakyat angry and cause instability. Or the government increase the income of the rakyat, and make them happy, but at the expense of reducing the country’s competitiveness.
My opinion is to increase the income only when production increases while at the same time keeping inflation low.
Talking about the economy, I wish to note the caution made by a former Petronas President, about the over reliance of Malaysia’s income on oil exports. Oil exports account to half of the national income. What happens if the oil runs out? We know oil is a limited resources and one day there will be no more oil. Malaysia must position its economy such that when we do not have oil to export, we have other sources to offsett this loss. We must be prepared for the worst.
Dear Tun,
Indeed, there is meaningless for our workers to receive wages of higher figures if inflation has diluted the purchasing power. We need strong leadership in our country to withstand and not to give in to constant pressure from the union of workers to increase wages without commensurate increase in production or productivity. Eventually, strong leadership would be weakened in the face of relentless persuasion and pressure from the workers to increase wages. The most difficult and insurmountable pressure is political because it can threaten to remove the strong leadership by the Opposition. The Opposition can promise anything because they have nothing to lose and everything to gain. To gain votes, the Opposition can promise 3 days working days in a week with the same wages. Weak political leadership will pamper the voters with more holidays, less working hours and ever higher wages without increase in productivity. During your strong leadership of Malaysia, productivity was increased by introduction of new measures like punch card to enforce punctuality, quicken the clock by 30 minutes, weekly cabinet meetings and many more. It was an efficient and dynamic government, no one can deny.

Askm Tun, semuga Allah SWT terus memberi kita semua rahmatnya yg tak terhitung banyaknya.
Wallahu’alam.
Dear beloved YAM Tun Dr Mahathir
1. I am speechless but simply have to agree strongly with your Cuti-Cuti Malaysia’s posting.
2. Also, please allow me to refer to extract of your Item 19, “Incidentally holidays bring death to thousands of travelers” – A Witty Remark, Good One. hehehe. 🙂
3. Notwithstanding the above, I hope you would agree with me that our untiring PM Najib is doing all his BEST to address among others, competitiveness, efficiency and good governance besides managing the nation towards Vision 2020.
4. I would also wish that you would agree that in order to sustain our property developers, more affordable housings should be built, inter-linked with good urban transportation infrastructures.
5. Rather than Malaysian property developers and purchasers go bust quickly on high-end properties (to avert the famed US subprime crisis).
6. I like our PM Najib’s recent aggressive initiative among others, in addressing Urban Poverty.
7. In affordable housings, these can be quickly “quality” realised vide “self-regulation” by property developers and oversee by PR1MA and / or any other appropriate regulatory authority(ies).
8. In respect to senior citizens’ welfare, children’s education and etc, Malaysia may wish to consider introducing the “Reverse Mortgage” scheme to ease respective parties’ burden including those of the Government.
9. In digressing, a blueprint should be made available to encourage among others, Tsunami affected Japanese industrialists to invest in states (inclusive of Pahang + Terengganu other than the obvious ones of Johor, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan and Selangor) along the proposed say, Y-configured, High Speed Rail (Y-HSR) routes. (ie: not necessarily congesting Selangor and arising from any other reason(s) best known)
10. This deliberation is to attract quality Japanese, Chinese and European high-value investments to be well distributed along the newly identified industrial + residential growth areas of the Titiwangsa Corridor and Y-branched eastern to our nation’s major petroleum and automotive hubs.
11. In addition, preferably, a new generation of 1Malaysia entrepreneur(s) should build this Y-HSR and not by certain (if any) existing infrastructure conglomerate(s) which have historically proven, made billions with ludicrous empires and little returns but plenty of excuses to the Malaysian society (however, to exclude among others, MMC, Gamuda and lately, NAZA as i believe they are good in CSR and etc).
12. Cheers + Salam 1Malaysia.
SalamYang Berbahagia Tun,
1. 1987 ekonomi dunia merudum teruk. Di Malaysia lori-lori menghantar, mengambil barang tiada di jalan raya. Operator tersadai. Umpama kilang-kilang papan dan lori-lori balak
yang sudah mengakhiri zaman gemilang mereka.Semua kilang setengah mati dan tutup. Intitusi kewangan lesu hilang fungsi.Tempat tumpuan makan sunyi sepi. Ramai yang bunuh diri dan ‘bungkus’. Pemberhentian kerja dan pengangguran sana sini. Tahun 1997 sekali lagi.
Malaysia pun hampir sama.
Niat pelaburan keuntungan lumayan jangka pendek. Bullish and make them rubbish.
8.Jalan selamat, kita berhemah dan berserdehana, “flow with the economic traffic”.
GOD is busy with other things rather than saving Malaysia 🙂
The PM and his team (the Current or New) is responsible to lead the country so that the future generations would not suffer like those in the US and Europe now.
They are suffering now is bcoz of the greed and EGOness of their leaders.
Our Leaders need to sincerely be SERIOUS and humble and get good advices in terms of re visiting their strategies now that will effect the future generations of Malaysia.
They should ‘audit’ their plans and get good debate and not only relying on good fancy reports from their downliners…

Assalamualikum Tun
100% with you on this.
Malaysia is a country on holiday – particularly Government Depts.
Public holiday + sick leaves (before & after public holidays) = extended holiday.
Current trend – staffs from private sector taking-up Govt. jobs because of Holidays!
‘Towards Zero Productivity’
high income means higher cost. Less work but with high pay means stealing. That is logic. Maybe high income economy is not a good idea at all. Better to have low income but our cost of living is low as well. No use to have high income just for us to easily afford imported goods when we can produce goods ourselves with lower cost.
Fair to say we are targeting to be high income economy just for us to afford more luxury. Instead of trying to gain high income economy we should go for mid-income economy. Isn’t our prophet teaches us to be so.
Salam Tun,
Everyone will be glad when God finally saves us from someone who had plundered and progressively destroyed the country during his 22 year tenure. Only now is it showing after almost all of the county’s resources have been used up to pay for those lavish and overpriced projects and kickbacks. Only one question is left to be answered. Where is the Gold? Still waiting for the gold dinar to materialize?
Just curious here,
Does anybody here not follow alternative media? As so called well informed citizens as ppl play out over here, do we not have feel the need to hear both sides?
Salam Tun,
Maybe with rate 70:30. With 30% open to public, diharap calon2 yang benar2 layak dipilih.
http://jebatmustdie.wordpress.com/2010/06/29/epu-should-be-free-from-political-masters/
Selain itu terdapat issue youth unemployment due to graduates quality.

WEll SAID Tun. I hope our current govnt is aware of the issues you raised. Lets learn from their mistakes in the West
Tun.
cuti is good.
i do not see the bad thing on cuti.
even if we do not have cuti n we do work half hearted, the productivity still low or more worst.
the good thing about malaysian they still answering office call and trying to help things go smoothly eventhough they are on holiday.
our live is not only work. we need to fulfill other obligations as well. we need to spend our money, relax and enjoying ourselves with families and friends.
i know where u are coming from and i dont blame you.
time for cheap labours are no longer applicable now. why? because we are no longer to have nasi lemak for 20sen. teh o for ten and so on.
i believed if you still want we become as cheap labour, the government will have a lot of problem. a lot of miskin tegar in our country. so to whom we should blame? frankly i dont know…
