1. I must congratulate the United States Space Agency (NASA) for successfully landing a space craft and collecting samples of the soil on a meteorite situated so far away in space. Read here.
2. It is a fantastic achievement as it took the space vehicle more than 3 years to reach the meteorite, land on it, pick up some soil and then took off to ‘fly’ back to earth. It should take 3 years to return to earth.
3. It is a great feat. But we cannot know what the meteorite soil contains. We assume it would be of some elements that is found on earth.
4. But it could also be some matter that is harmful to us on earth.
5. Remember the atom bomb. The scientists thought it would just explode and kill the people of Hiroshima the same way that other bombs do.
6. But later we found it was lethal in other ways also. It produced radiation which killed people beyond the site of the explosion. Now we know that if we use this weapon in war the whole world will be affected. They will suffer from radiation disease and they may be killed.
7. And so we prohibit the use of nuclear weapons.
8. Now we have COVID-19. Again it is something we knew nothing about. We were not prepared to deal with this virus. And millions have been infected and more than one million have died. And more will die before we develop an effective vaccine.
9. So, what if the soil we bring back from the meteorite is totally new. What if it is an element which can poison the air we breathe, or the sea, or our soil. Are we sure that all the elements in the universe are like the elements we find on this earth? Can there not be something that is not in our planet. Can it be poisonous to life on our planet?
10. H.G. Wells told us the alien who attacked our planet were killed by our bacteria. But what if the material as creatures are different and lethal to life on earth, the whole world can be destroyed.
11. Already, right here on earth, a virus has made its appearance which can wipe out human life on earth. Yes, we are combating it. We may be successful. But we can also fail.
12. The people in America too must be familiar with invasive elements. We read about invasive predator fishes, the snakeheads, found in lakes and waterways in the US, most originating from parts of Asia and decimating the local fish populace.
13. That is within the context of invasive elements from merely other parts of the world.
14. So be careful about this soil from this meteorite in outer space.

India’s problem.
In my view, India’s main problem is not a lack of talent, but its attitude and confidence. It is the same attitude and lack of confidence that afflict the Malays and blacks in America. It is what I call the socialist attitude.
Black Lives Matter was exactly that; a response from minorities and oppressed people worldwide to their socio-economic backwardness. Black Lives Matter proponents are the quintessential socialists of the world. Their main argument on why poor people are poor is because the rich suppresses them. What is troubling about this argument is that it never occurs to them that THEY are the sole cause of their own socio-economic backwardness.
Imagine a poor Malay farmer complaining his poverty because the playing field is not level in Malaysia. Imagine the entire Malay urban and rural communities complaining that it is because of the presence of immigrants from China and India and now the incoming Singaporean traders, being the cause of their persistent socio-economic backwardness in their own country, Malaysia. And imagine the older Malays telling the younger Malays to follow the footpaths of older Malays in the name of cultural preservation, even though their language and culture and whatever else practices have not led them to anywhere they would have dreamt otherwise. Imagine the Kadazans, Dusuns, Muruts and Ibans of Borneo likewise telling their younger generations to follow the same paths they have led the current generations to the miserable situations today. Everyone else are the problem except themselves.
Imagine the Indian businesses telling Prime Minister Modi that India had been running trade deficits with ASEAN countries because of unfairly priced goods, and that China is not really a market economy that is open to non-China companies (a similar argument that was used by Americans in the 1980s). All the socialist arguments except that the main cause is they way they had been doing things in Indian factories and farmlands, and their government policies and country’s poor infrastructures.
The main problem is attitude. The socialist attitude.

The soil (from outer space / other planets) might contain elements or components that are detrimental / damaging to us (our health / well-being) – must be handled with utmost care.
In fact in Islam, we are always reminded (instructions / rules / guidelines given in the Quran) about the need to maintain certain things the way they are (Normal behavior / Natural habitat / existence/ etc.).
There will be bad consequences if we violate the RULES of Allah SWT.
For example, it’s normal for a man to marry a woman (or in a relationship). But if a man marries another man (or a woman marries another woman; a couple?), it’s unnatural or abnormal (probihited in Islam). So, we had the sudden appearance of a new (deadly) disease. Of course those who are not involved in this ‘abnormal’ activity (innocent people) may also get infected through various ways. It’s no longer the sinners’ problem. It has become our problem too.
There are also various reasons why Muslims are forbidden from eating pork and certain categories of animals.
Covid-19 appeared at a market in Wuhan China for a reason…

It is no wonder that you came up with this arcane topic known as ‘Exploring Space’ which most Malaysians hardly think about because they assumed that only Singapore (900,000 Chinese males 21-50 years. Vide. No doubt, the RM 23 Million scope was in wraps for over 2 decades now if it had not been stolen yet ! A case whereby this good lady should have continued into academia and teach later generations of a science to fulfil our beloved Malaysia’s as a worthy member of the World’s society. But there was no follow up by those responsible and she naturally drifted away to greener pastures, New York and Vienna !
2. Then our beloved Malaysia’s only astronaut whose success was not fully capitalised after 2003. His presence together with the good lady astro-physicist in academia would have put Malaysia’s universities World ranking on a higher plane.
3. Have we forgotten about the Malaysian Team which climbed Mount Everest ? A deed such as this cannot be forgotten and put away in the dustbin but capitalised by the universities and matched with the astro-physicist and astronauts as showpieces of Malaysian enterprise and knowledge in the field of exploration, science and outer space to light up the minds of the young and the old in present day Malaysia ! And to appreciate that the use of English and Science is a universal font of knowledge for Humankind !
4. There was this gentleman who sailed round the World apparently single-handedly. His log book and experiences are the stuff of high adventure and science in comparison to the sea-farers of ancient times from the Arabs, the Chinese, the Portuguese, the Dutch down to the English ! Any Western University would love to engage him for further adventures. But not in Malaysia.
5. And finally the lady who claimed to cross the Artic North Pole and the Antartica South Pole, she too has a place in academia if she is not already been engaged. Certain universities in the UK have institutes of exploration of both the Arctic and the Antarctic to keep abreast of scientific developments in these exotic and obscure places.
By not following up with these worthy scientific Malaysian explorers by the Government after 2003, they are now forgotten and their courageous scientific endeavours have become no better than expensive tourists !
In fact, they should all be honoured with a postage stamp each to commemorate their significant deeds for our beloved Malaysia.

India’s hidden talents.
There is absolutely no doubt that India is far better than China in talent pool. How many CEOs of Indian heritage leading America’s Silicon Valley companies today, compared to any Chinese American. NASA even bought rockets made in India.
What India lacks is not talent but confidence. The Indian politicians should expose India’s companies to external competition, force Indian manufacturers to unleash their hidden talents, and I am very sure that very soon Indian companies can make better and cheaper products that the Chinese.

Fear of Competition.
As 15 countries in the Asia Pacific region sign the RCEP to create the world’s largest free trade area, predictably Indian Prime Minister Modi pulled his country out of the trade bloc. Indian officials argue that cheap products will flood the Indian domestic market and drive Indian companies out of business. I would say that the real reason is that CHEAPER and BETTER QUALITY products will flood the Indian domestic market and drive Indian companies out of business.
In my view, the fault lies not on the trading bloc, but the fault simply lies on Indian companies for being slack and unable to compete in the global market. The losers are not Mr. Modi and Indian companies, but India’s consumers and India’s long term economic growth itself.
The shortsightedness of India today can be seen in the thinking of some political leaders in this country, too. Fortunately for ordinary Malaysians, they are not in power.
Trading blocs v Space.
From the perspective of economic growth, space exploration is still in an explorative phase, but like-minded nations going further than free trade to form regional trading blocs is the trend that a small trade-dependent economy like Malaysia cannot and must not ignore.
Whether it is dominated by China, India or the US, is immaterial. Small economies like Singapore and Malaysia must join. It is a no brainer. The sooner the better. Whether the trading bloc is RCEP (like today) or TPPA, whatever.
The world is not a merchantilistic but a free trade world today.
Malaysia can choose either to close its borders and its inhabitants grow poorer buying and selling among themselves, or open its borders and compete with other countries in an enlarged, larger market, and in the process grow prosperous the right way. Malaysian companies cannot cocoon themselves behind superficial import tariffs but must begin to compete in an open world economy. Start competing against Singaporean traders and if they survive, venture further out.
That is the right way. The only way.

Pandemic roots.
As far as I know, the Covid-19 virus originated in a Chinese wildlife meat market. Religions have existed for centuries to tell people on Earth what they can and cannot eat. If that’s not enough, let alone breeding animals that are supposed to be only found in the wild.
It is nothing to do with Outer Space.
Yes, has to be with extreme cautious. May be the experiments only take place in outer space remotely controlled without anyone touching it.
Take risks and explore the probabilities.
All inventions in life come with its duality and polarity.
If the alien soil could help us assess the likelihood of life throughout the galaxy and, ultimately, the universe. It’s pretty much a good bet? Isn’t it not?
Outer Space exploration.
In my view, Outer Space exploration is a MUST, not an option anymore. For earth’s survival, exploiting Outer Space resources may be the only path. Sustainable exploitation is the key.
The first thing that comes to my mind about the possibility of Outer Space is stationing a permanent solar panel satellite not on the dark side of the earth’s moon. This is feasible now. Back on planet earth, governments can install solar energy antenna and distribution cables for every city and village to get low-cost electricity direct from outer space. Fossil fuels like oil and coal, and nuclear energy are no longer needed and saves the planet’s environment and reverses global warming. Wind and water renewable energy are not necessary and border politics can become irrelevant.
So, in my view, Outer Space is the final frontier for Earth.
