2. Yet this is an area which the West displays the greatest degree of hypocrisy, of double-standards. We know of many instances when Western Governments regulate and control their media. We know that the press often self-regulates in their wish to uphold Government policies or practices.
3. But the most blatant example of control over public expression is with regard to the protection of the Jews. Not only will any criticism of the Jews be condemned, but laws have been enacted in many European countries which makes it illegal for anyone to dispute any aspect of the Holocaust. No one may question the claim that 6 million Jews were killed in the Holocaust.
5. The action of the Austrian Government and the existence of such a law forbidding free expression not only in Austria but elsewhere is a blatant example of total negation of free speech. And there are many other examples.

7. One of the most newsworthy event of the last century is the 9/11 destruction of the World Trade Towers in New York. Such an event would have been thoroughly and repeatedly investigated, analysed and reported in the media even after years have passed. But very little has been reported about this event except for the first few weeks.
8. The results of investigations by private individuals and organisations have never been published in the media. The peculiar manner of the building collapsing on itself, the similar collapse of a third building which was not hit by the aircrafts; the total absence of debris where planes were said to have crashed into the Pentagon building and in the open field where the fourth plane was said to have crashed into the ground, the total absences of reports and recovery of the black boxes which all these planes must have carried; all these seem not to be in keeping with America’s talent for investigative reporting. There seems to be a conspiracy of silence. And this silence negates the loud claim of press freedom by the West.
9. And yet when an American spent large sums of money to produce a film to insult the Muslims and denigrate their Prophet in the most insulting manner; when the producer of the film knows full well that there would be violent reactions to the screening of this film; their deliberate provocation of the Muslims is defended by the American Government as a manifestation of the freedom of expression.
10. The reaction to this film by Muslims, including the killing of United States diplomats is condemned as extreme and indefensible. Muslims should understand that the film producer was only exercising his rights.
11. If that is so then why are there laws in many Western cities banning any adverse comments against the Jews. Why was David Irving arrested and jailed for doubting whether 6 million Jews were killed in the holocaust? Was he not also exercising his freedom of expression!
12. The West condemns the lack of restraints among Muslims to such puerile provocation. They are asked to be rational and not be violent.
13. Should not they also advise their own people to exercise restrain regarding provoking the Muslims. If they expect the Muslims to be rational, shouldn’t they request their own people to be rational as well? Better still if they can pass laws regarding the sensitivities of the Jews, surely they can legislate similar laws regarding insulting the sensitivities of the Muslims.
14. But instead of restraining their people, at the very time when Muslims reacted violently over the insult to their Prophet, the Europeans published cartoons to insult and provoke the Muslims further.
15. Truly the hypocrisy of the great advocates of freedoms of all kinds is beyond compare. Such people should not take the high ground to lecture the world on anything.

Now, Tun Badawi does not seem to understand correctly the situation on the ground. Please allow me to explain to Tun Badawi what it is like.
1. The “religious authorities” , or more accurately “religious authority” ( there is only one ) is only on Islam and is heavily and fanatically biased towards Islam. If Tun Badawi had witnessed how a session between a non-muslim Malay and a staunch Muslim Malay,explaining why he is a not a Muslim, Tun Badawi will realize that it is an exercise in futile.
2. This is because Muslims cannot listen, and what Tun Badawi asks of religious officers to lend an ear to the would be apostates, cannot be done at all without fire. This is because the Muslim Religious officer, by virtue of being a Muslim, is already biased. This means he will act to “defend Islam” even if not physically, surely mentally, as that is his mental or psychological make up. He is very sad and angry at the same time that he would lose a muslim member of his “ummah”. He will be afraid he is letting the ummah down and so will act in all and every manner to “save” the religion and the person who want to apostasize. In other words, the officer, he or she, will proselytize. Non-muslims cannot proselytize, it is against the law of the land. But Malay Muslims can do that. And the Religious Officer has in effect the authority to proselytize.
3. In this scenario, it will be a contest of will power between the two. It can escalate into a private war easily. Muslims kill apostates, and a would be apostate is a would be victim of a murder.
4. I think therefore Tun Badawi ought to ask D.S. Najib to change and remove the religious laws first. Religious officers will uphold religious laws, of course. Shariah Court will uphold Shariah laws.
5. And so the laws have to be removed and replaced with common and non discriminitary laws, the Shariah Court dismantled totally, the Shariah judges and lawyers given jobs in Civil courts, and the clerks and other staff sent to work for Felda Bhd.
6. I think perhaps Tun Abdullah Badawi knows all this, but he cannot say it. I can, because i have no title. I have nothing.

Does FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION today allow to marginalize what is happening to Palestinians due to the constellation there? Of course it doesn’t!
Any person dying there due to ideological differences is also ONE TOO MANY who dies.
But in any case the Palestine issue is a different concern than what was discussed here before and to what I offered my comments. Hidden Secret post on this topic of Freedom of Speech was very well written.
I believe that besides the Pro-Jewish agendas in the European and some US news media, their laws are still more balance than ours. Our societies in Asia are still shackled by bad and unjust laws that stunted our economic and intellectual progress.
The fact that we see of the obvious bias towards very pro Jewish or Israel in the West is mainly due to the strength of the Jewish lobbies in those countries. The Jews has disproportionate share of the political power in those countries. And also due to the Christians belief in the ‘chosen people’. The Muslims should take advantage of their growing demographic number in the Western countries and should begin to exert their potential economic and political power as well to counter the Jewish influence. Throughout history we see that the Christians had not shown any love to the Jewish people. The Jews has always been prosecuted by the Christians and it was the Muslims that had always sheltered them.

Definition of Displacement- Displacement involves taking out our frustrations, feelings and impulses on people or objects that are less threatening. Displaced aggression is a common example of this defense mechanism. Rather than express our anger in ways that could lead to negative consequences (like arguing with our boss), we instead express our anger towards a person or object that poses no threat (such as our spouse, children or pets).

I have therefore this advise for voters, who are confused.
a) we have two boxes, PR and BN

c) in box BN we have discriminatory aspect called racial, introduced by all components. It also has the Islamic discriminatory aspect although UMNO prefers to play dumb. We voters are not dumb however.
So if what you seek is fairness, justice, equality etc etc, and all the good things in life, you can choose neither. No box for you. Go home.
My advise is then let your conscious vote for you, whatever that is.
I think in default people will vote according to what they are first, whether they are a race first or religion first or nationality first.

5. It is true that Western Governments regulate and control their media but this also happens in Malaysia. Malaysian Government do regulates and controls the mass media in Malaysia. The main reason why Tun started to blogging was because when Pak Lah was in office, the mass media in Malaysia refused to published Tun’s statements. And some of your readers from what I discerned just wished the vile anti-Islamic political pornographic film produced in Hollywood, CA, USA just did not happen. But then it did with a purpose.
There is not a single day in our human history that the humankind had not been fighting or quarreling even in the best of times. A human being is a very complex creature.
The United Nations Universal Declaration for Human Rights in Clause 2 states that human rights are to be respected by all and yet when acts were performed in the interests of a nation even the most respected leader would keep a blind eye to the wrong doing – hence, the hypocrisy.
But in this particular case, it was deliberately done to cause hurt to the 1.1 Billion Muslims, a group of people who happened to be suppressed or bullied by others or sometimes by their own kind for over 500 years. And the irony of this is the vital source of energy, petroleum is located where they live ! But the slow realization of the importance of this vital petroleum located in the Muslim world is only of recent origin, maybe from the turn of the 20th century.
If only modern thought and action had taken place centuries ago and not the mind-set of imperialist conquerors who were only interested in material gains, the turmoil, the despots, the poverty, the disunity, etc of the Muslims would not be with us today. The thinking of the United States and the West is archaic because they consider human rights and freedom of expression only in their very own image !
Tun, you are right to point out all these unpalatable points (unacceptable to some) to us. It is the utter neglect of the general world Muslim populace who should have a proper place in the sun and not to destroy each other for minor differences.
The wealth of the Muslims is in the oil resource which is actually siphoned off to the West for its very survival. And to the West, their very survival is non-negotiable. But then, the oil (belongs to the Muslims who should be the ones governing the utilization of such a precious resource) which is being depleted every day, should also be non-negotiable. The poverty of the Muslims arises from the riches which did not accrue in the production lands to benefit the local populace in an equal socio-economic manner giving rise to political stability and peace and modern progress as befitting a civilised people who own such an important world resource. Their very survival and future were just taken away to benefit others. Hence, we see phantom moves to create disunity and instability amongst the Muslim to weaken them by using minimum means for maximum effect. Such action is also archaic.
My view is that the riches of the Muslims be used to up-lift all the socio-economic needs of the producing countries first wherever they are and to the benefit of whoever requires this vital commodity later. Without an estoppel, there will always be disorder and destabilization created by the outside vested interests amongst the people who happened to be living on top of this vital resource. But the world requirement for this important commodity should also be taken care of and recognised as such – that all nations are entire to survive and progress because of oil.
It is reasonable to single out petroleum and gas to be treated as vital to the needs of humankind. The United Nations should be the final arbiter of a fair price for the producer and the user. With such an arrangement, the need to conquer an oil rich territory for future energy needs is obviated -bullets and guns for oil are defused.
The money so saved on arms could be channeled by these developed countries for the socio-economic and eventual political development of an oil producing country. And best of all, the people on the ground will benefit from this new arrangement which will take at least 50 years to bear fruit.
And Tun, you are the right person to propound this new thinking to the world – A United Nations Universal Charter for Energy Rights to be supervised by the UN sponsored ‘Organisation for Energy Rights of Nations’.
Why must superpowers go to wars and denigrate their opponents through subversive means to safeguard their vital commodity for survival which is oil ? This is pre-21st century thinking. All old stuff.
Surprisingly, with all the brains in this world no one in the Western think tanks has come up with a radical idea like this ! Do it by negotiation to put petroleum and gas on a pedestal and not by war through conventional means, kill, kill, bang, bang ! – wars for oil is therefore defused and with this move – the Islamic Civilization will flourish.
Tun, the time is ripe for you to suggest a complete overhaul of the world’s economic system through an international conference, like the miniature Bretton Woods conference in 1944 !
Such a conference could take a long time or a short time depending on the interests of the participating super-powers. Whichever way you look at the shattered world economic system through its deep and imperfect faults, there is no way out anytime soon during which the developed nations could repair the damage. Hence, there is a vital urgency to re-balance all the deficiencies of the world’s economies by turning petroleum and gas into a non-negotiable and urbane commodity in the interests of all concerned – a radical thought because oil is the final arbiter of Humankind existence today and the future. And, the reluctance to shut-down nuclear power stations and some eagerness to build new ones, etc.
The second tier of engagement would be for the portion of petroleum and gas outside the requirements of the nations to remain as it is ie. a free market with the participation of state of independent oil companies which will be rewarded handsomely if new discoveries are made.
My ideas are at best rudimentary and elementary.
But without a complete overhaul of the world’s financial and economic systems, the super-powers will just carry on with their ‘war war bang bang’ policies on the weaker nations which fortunately or unfortunately have huge reserves of oil. And who suffers ? The innocent men, women and children. And because of this, the West is always seen to practise hypocrisy. In this milieu, the practise of fair and reasonable human rights is just well nigh impossible or unattainable.

Kebebasan pengucapan itulah lebih kurang pada tanggapan saya maksud “Freedom of Expression”. Ada ketikanya memang berlaku double standard atau boleh juga disebut hipokrasi dalam kebebasan pengucapan yang diamalkan di barat, ianya juga sudah menjadi ikutan dan amalan dikalangan orang, indidvidu atau organisasi di Malaysia atas alasan kebebasan bersuara. Tidak semua yang ditiru dari barat boleh mendatangkan kebaikan dalam konteks negara Malaysia. Kita juga tidak boleh menolak amalan-amalan yang difikirkan bersesuaian dari barat untuk diaplikasikan di Malaysia.
Negara kita juga pernah dijajah oleh barat suatu ketika dahulu dan masih ada lagi amalan-amalan penjajah yang didapati masih bersesuaian yang kita terus amalkan di Malaysia. Mana-mana negara di dunia yang pernah dijajah dilihat masih terus menggunakan sesuatu amalan yang ditinggalkan penjajah. Contoh paling ketara kita menggunakan perantaraan Bahasa Inggeris dengan meluas (dalam aspek pembelajaran, perniagaan, penulisan dan perhubungan harian) yang mana Tun sendiri amat menyokong Bahasa Inggeris digunakan dalam pembelajaran sains dan matematik di sekolah kerana ianya amat bersesuaian bagi meningkat pencapaian ilmu sains dan matematik yang masih banyak boleh diperolehi dalam Bahasa Inggeris.
Hipokrasi barat terhadap Islam amat tidak bersesuaian menjadi ikutan rakyat Malaysia yang terdiri dari berbagai kaum, anutan berbagai budaya dan kepercayaan agama yang berbeza. Tetapi malangnya sudah ada dikalangan rakyat Malaysia dengan begitu ketara mengamalkan sikap hipokrasi antara agama di Malaysia. Contoh paling mudah kedudukan agama Islam yang termaktub dalam perlembagaan juga dipermainkan dan dipolitikkan oleh pihak-pihak tertentu. Mungkin Tun cuba memberi peringatan kepada rakyat Malaysia sebagai bekas Perdana Menteri Malaysia ke 4 supaya tidak secara bulat-bulat meniru amalan “Freedom of Expression” yang diamalkan di barat. Yang lebih relevan rakyat Malaysia seharusnya membentuk peradaban sebagai orang timur, lebih-lebih lagi bagi rakyat Malaysia yang beragama Islam yang telah tersedia ada peradaban mengikut syariat Islam yang sepatutnya diamalkan dengan sepenuhnya.
Tepuk dada tanyalah selera kita sebagai umat Islam. PRU ke 13 akan menjelang tiba pada bila-bila masa sahaja. Kita seharusnya menggalas tanggungjawab bagi memilih kerajaan yang benar-benar boleh deliver bagi menjamin kesinambungan kesejahteraan yang telah dan sedang kita rasai semenjak negara kita Malaysia mencapai kemerdekaan 55 tahun yang lalu. Politik secara hipokrasi diantaranya tidak harus menjadi pilihan. Politik yang membawa unsur-unsur dan elimen-elimen dari luar negara yang bertentangan dengan sosio budaya, nilai-nilai murni amalan keagamaan di Malaysia seperti LGBT tidak harus diterima dan diberi sokongan untuk menerajui kepimpinan negara Malaysia. Politik yang memperjudikan agama dengan cara songsang bagi meraih sokongan juga harus ditolak untuk menjadi salah satu komponen kepimpinan negara Malaysia. Politik yang bercorak cauvinis (hanya mementingkan sesuatu kaum) juga amat tidak sesuai diberi sokongan. Gambaran-gambaran di atas adalah cerminan amalan politik pakatan pembangkang (PKR, DAP & Pas) yang sedang dimainkan oleh mereka bagi meraih sokongan rakyat pada PRU ke 13.

Point taken, but what is the purpose of these points. To highlight that the west is unfair and unjust. ? And does it mean we, our system is fair and just ? I think not too.
Is it then to be able to argue against the West, with good points, and these arguments and points will earn us respect ? I think not too.
If we end up judging each other and others as bad or unjust, it means we busy our lives with judging people. Will this bring about plenty of profits for us ? i think not too.
Maybe you are educating the Malays how to stand up against “superior” western powers, but i think there is a long long way to go and the value system of the Malays must change first.
And that is to begin with not being preoccupied with judging others, but being preoccupied with useful activities and knowledge seeking, rather than adopting ‘blaming the west’ as a hobby.
