MERDEKA

1. We are 55-years old. This blessed multi-racial country of ours has been free for 55 years. For some Malaysians of 55 years and under, to be free of foreign rule is no big deal. Of course we are free, so what?

2. Jalur Gemilang! Just a rag – a strip of coloured cloth. It can be of any colour. What’s so great about the stripes, the star and the moon. Why must we be loyal to a piece of coloured cloth?

3. And the anthem. Is it relevant? Why cannot we sing some other song?

4. These are said to be symbols. Symbols of what??

5. Of course we are free of foreign rule. For these 55 and under, it is unthinkable to be under foreign rule. What we know is rule by some Malaysians. And they deny us freedom. We cannot demonstrate. We cannot step on pictures. We cannot change the colour of our flag – that rag. We cannot sing other anthems.

6. We cannot do this; we cannot do that. So where is the freedom?

7. I am past 55 years. I lived under foreign rule. I lived under the British when all white men must be addressed as Tuan (master) and white women Mem (a corruption of Madame I suppose). Ours was to obey, theirs was to command. Politics was out of bounds.

8. I lived under the Japanese. We feared for our women. They had to cut their hair short and wore men’s clothing. They hid in the attic, fearing being raped by Japanese soldiers.

9. The Kampetai or military police had a list of Chinese who had actively supported China against the Japanese. Many were executed by decapitation with the curved Japanese sword.

10. Many were arrested and tortured. Water was hosed into their stomach and then forced out through their mouths and noses. They either died or they confessed to whatever crime they were accused of. Then they were taken out and shot.

11. Thailand allowed the Japanese army to land on its beaches and to march down the Isthmus of Kra into British Malaya. After two months of retreat, the British surrendered.

12. As a reward for their cooperation, the Thais were given four northern Malay state – Kedah, Perlis, Kelantan and Terengganu.

13. I experienced Thai rules. We had to respect their flag and anthem.

14. One evening as I was passing the Alor Star Police Station I heard the anthem and I froze, looking up at the Thai flag being lowered.

15. An old Malay man cycled slowly past apparently unaware that he had to get off his bike and stand at attention.

16. The anthem ended as the flag came down. I heard a shout and a Thai soldier who had been standing at attention ran after the old cyclist. He gave a flying kick to the face and the old man fell off his bicycle, lying still on the road.

17. I did not go to his help. I was afraid of the soldier who seemed about to kick the man again. He changed his mind and went away.

18. The Allied forces won the Pacific War and the British returned. They had promised to defend us from foreign attacks. They had failed. We had to live under the Japanese and the Thais.

19. No apologies were offered. They merely threatened to depose the Malay rulers if they did not sign the MacMichael Treaty surrendering their states outright to the British. In the meantime we were ruled by the British Military Administration. No democracy.

20. Then the worm turned. The docile Malays united as never before and forced the Malayan Union to be aborted. Eventually the states of the Peninsular and then the states of Sarawak and Sabah achieved independence as Malaysia.

21. To me being independent will always be something I will cherish. As a Malaysian I don’t have to call foreigners “Master” or Tuan. We don’t have to fear foreigners in our country. We will not have our heads chopped off. We will not be kicked by foreigners in our own country.

22. Yes, our Governments are not perfect. I was expelled from my party. I was ostracised. When I retired I was treated like an enemy of the Government.

23. Others were detained without trial. A few claimed they were tortured. Maybe they were. But that is not the policy of our Governments. The law does not permit that though there are more advanced countries where torture is legalised.

24. There are good things and bad things, good governance and bad governance in independent Malaysia. It is not perfect. But which country is perfect. In America there is much inequality with 1% being extremely rich and 99% poor according to Nobel Laureate economist Joseph Stiglitz. Europe has been in financial crisis since 2008 and appears unable to get out of it.

25. In the Middle East there is the so-called Arab Spring. Many have died. Revolutionary successes have not brought the promised good Governments and prosperity yet. It will take time.

26. Where else? Africa! I don’t think the Africans are better off than Malaysians. Latin America! Yes Brazil. It’s doing well, that’s all I know. The others are not.

27. And in ASEAN. Singapore has done well. But the people seem unhappy. 15% of the population are treated as second class citizens. They are poor. The other countries are so so.

28. Am I stupid? But really there is nowhere else I would like to be other than Malaysia. It’s not a perfect country. I don’t like some of the things I see or experience. But on balance there is more good in independent Malaysia than there are bad things.

29. So I will celebrate Merdeka days. I will fly the Jalur Gemilang and I will sing the National Anthem. I am proud I am a Malaysian, a citizen of an independent country. I will not step on the pictures of people who only know how to hate and have done nothing to make this country better. By doing what they did they have demonstrated that they and the people who lead them are unfit to rule this independent country. They only know hate. Hatred does not develop nations.

30. So I will shout “Merdeka” Malaysia for Merdeka means a lot to me.

  1. Hi Tun,

I have been reading your blog ever since it first came up. I was so contented with everything around me when you were Prime Minister. I just felt secured.
After you decided to step down, I felt a need to be more aware of my surrounding as the security is just some how stepped down.
Anyway, just wanted to say that I LOVE this post. Malaysia is not perfect but it is home.
Thank you so much for being you. You are such an inspiration.

  2. Salam Tun.

To The Hidden Secret (whoever or whatever you are),

I believe you are a capable person with the capacity to think in a most rational manner. Don’t let personal feelings arising from deep frustration, disappointment in life and the likes to affect your thinking and to be made known to us.

If you wish to give comparisons, let it be ‘apple to apple’.
However you chose to compare ‘apple to rambutan’:

    1. Likening the BN to USA and the PR to USSR and whatnot.

    2. You readily admit yet accept that PROVEN devil Anwar.

    3. You give examples on change of government in Japan, New Zealand, South Korea,….thus likewise Malaysia is no exception.

    4. You helped spread the hearsay hanky-panky deals/corruptions in Tun’s blog when none were brought to court which contradicted claims of evidence/documents easily available.

    5. You believe it is sensible and unavoidable to make comparison on the correctly worded truth from pro-government media to the rowdy & unfounded slanderous garbage of PKR fanatics, as due to circumstances.

    Don’t ridicule and belittle yourself.

  3. Tun,
Saya cuma nak menambah sedikit.
Rakyat AS walaupun pelbagai etnik, bertutur dalam satu bahasa dan hanya mempunyai satu kiblat iaitu negara AS.
    Salam Tun.

  4. Salam Tun and All,

The analysis provided by Hidden Secret is a bit too confusing. When he implied that we should be like China he is not comparing apple to apple with Malaysia.

He uses China as a balance of world power between the West but he also equate China to Malaysia as a country. This is very wrong as China is authoratarian country and dictator. The power is very solid and unquestionable. They are not democratic country as yet.

However, if we are to be like China it can also be good. Actually, power should come out very solid. If we break Malaysia into various sections with opposing views on each other, the country would not going to move anywhere as politician have to go through very long campaign to convince all of the interested parties. Still some of the parties may have going to object it altogether.

Further, the accountabilities is going to be very difficult to establish. With equal power to all of the parties, pointing fingers will frequently happens.

The system based on distrust is proven to be the reason why most of the government initiatives failed. This is due to excessive protocols and governance where it resulted in delay in decision making and heavy politics. In my opinion, people governance really does not work and country like this such as India is heavily exposed to all level of corruption.

I am sorry but this is my views. Loose coalition of the PR will not going to work. Even inside the coalition itself there is a great distant of opposing views with each other. Some people claims that PR is Islamic while in the same time claimed to be Liberal and Democratic.

Islam is Syumul. Syumul actually means holistic and we should know how to compartmentalised our thinking not mix it all together to become ‘rojak’.

  5. Peace!

First, let us look at our world.

During the Cold War from 1947–1991, there were two superpowers with profound economic and political differences ie. the USA and the USSR. Are they both angels? Or one of them was an angel and the other one was a devil? Or were both of them devils?

From year 1992 until now, USA has become the single superpower in the world. Is she (USA) an angel? Or is she (USA) a devil?

For other countries, which one is better? Is it better to have two superpowers (one with a Communist ideology and the other with a Democratic ideology) or one superpower with a Democratic ideology?

Let us take China as an example. James Hsiung (1987) concluded that CHINA BENEFITTED MUCH MORE THAN EITHER OF THE SUPERPOWERS FROM VARIOUS COALITION SHIFTS THAT OCCURRED OVER TIME.

Political scientists Andrew J. Nathan and Robert S. Ross certainly makes good sense: “During the Cold War, CHINA WAS THE ONLY MAJOR COUNTRY THAT STOOD AT THE INTERSECTION OF THE TWO SUPERPOWER CAMPS, A TARGET OF INFLUENCE AND EMNITY FOR BOTH.

Both, Communism and Democracy are not the perfect political ideologies. Both have advantages/strength and disadvantages/weaknesses.

What’s more important is to have a good leader regardless of the political ideologies we practice or condone to, whether it is democracy, communism, monarchy or dictatorship.

Now, let us go back to Malaysia.

Let us imagine that BN is the USA, PR is the USSR and Malaysian citizens are China. Similar to China, the Malaysian citizens have a choice to choose between BN or PR. Like the USA (Democracy) and USSR (Communism), both BN and PR are not perfect, both have strength and weaknesses.

The Malaysian citizens now have two options :-

    1. To let BN become the single superpower in Malaysia, which is similar to the period after the Cold War where the USA become the single superpower in the world.

    Or…

    2. To have two superpowers in Malaysia ie BN and PR, which is similar to the cold war period where there were two superpowers (USA and USSR, with two different ideologies).

As concluded by James Hsiung, CHINA BENEFITTED MUCH MORE THAN EITHER OF THE SUPERPOWERS FROM VARIOUS COALITION SHIFTS THAT OCCURRED OVER TIME. Will the Malaysian citizens benefited more if political power shifts between BN and PR occurred over time in Malaysia?

Anwar Ibrahim and PR are not perfect. Definitely, they will fail in fulfilling all their promises. However, their presence in the Malaysia’s political arena will help to balance one party (BN) to become too strong and too corrupt.

WE DO NOT NEED AN ANGEL TO BALANCE OFF A DEVIL BUT WE COULD ALSO USE ANOTHER DEVIL TO BALANCE OFF A DEVIL.

Anwar is not an Angel. I trust what Tun and Umi Hafilda said about Anwar. However, he (Anwar) will not going to exist forever in the Malaysia’s political arena. He will eventually gone or die. Anwar may think that he is successful in using the people for his political ambition. However, I think it is the other way around. I think that HIS (ANWAR) PRESENCE NOW IS THE BEST OPPORTUNITY FOR MALAYSIANS IN CREATING A STRONG TWO POLITICAL COALITIONS IN MALAYSIA. Anwar has all it takes to do this for the Malaysians. He has lots of money, he has external support, he has ambition and determination. Other than Anwar, we do not have any candidate to achieve this for us. Without Anwar, our chance to have two strong political coalitions in Malaysia is gong to be extremely difficult and impossible.

In a democratic country, a dominated single party or a dominated single coalition political parties will never be the best option for the citizens. A good example is Singapore. Being a single political party which has ruled Singapore since 1959, PAP controls almost all aspect of the Singaporeans life – artificially high price of houses, artificially high price of cars, two children policy, mass influx of immigrants and expats, Denunciation / Public liberties, expensive tertiary education, GST to name a few. However, there is nothing or little the Singaporeans could do because PAP is too strong.

Malaysia is moving towards the same trend also – artificially high price of houses, artificially high price of cars, mass influx of immigrants, expensive tertiary education, moving into the implementation of GST, inefficient and expensive public transportation system, unnecessary payment of commission to Perimekar, PKFZ scandal, naval vessel scandal, cow scandal, etc. However, there is nothing or little the Malaysians could do because BN is too strong and has been ruling Malaysia since 1957.

Let us all be like China during the cold war. China never accept USA or USSR as her (China) permanent ally but she (China) shifted her (China) alliance between the two superpowers to leverage the cold war between the two superpowers. China realized that she (China) was in a position to make demands to the two superpowers. China doesn’t or care less what USA or USSR will think about her (China). What important for China was to leverage as much as possible from the two superpowers.

It is good that PR coalition was formed by three political parties with three different ideologies. Why is it good?

In BN, nobody could do anything when Perimekar received unnecessary commissions for the purchase of submarines (PR claimed that the submarines are used or second hand submarines). But in PR, if PAS wants to cut-off people’s hand, DAP will oppose to it. If DAP wants to give 999 years lease to the Chinese, the Malays in PAS and PR will oppose to it. If PR wants to give more rooms to the LGBT, PAS will oppose to it. Their different ideologies is a blessing to us.

So… we don’t have to be loyal to any political parties or political alliance. What do we get if we are loyal to any political party or political alliance? What we, the rakyat should do is to leverage as much as we could from them. Always remember that… we are the shareholders of Malaysia Berhad who appoint them as our chairman and directors. We pay them (taxes, duties, permits, summonses, fines, etc), they (BN or PR) have to work for us and we owe them (BN and PR) nothing.

    Rgds.

  6. Tun,
Izinkan saya menjawap tulisan The Hidden Secret 18 September 2012.
Antaranya beliau menulis quote “All of us have different views and opinions. However, NO PERSONAL ATTACK PLEASE. COMMENT ON THE CONTENT, NOT ON THE CONTRIBUTOR”
What kind of a person are you saudara The Hidden Secret?
Come on la, saudara, kalau nak attack pun seperti saudara kata attack lah PM sahaja takkan isteri PM pun jadi sasaran?
    Salam Tun.

  7. salam Tun,

    to hidden top secret,

“THEY ONLY KNOW HATE. HATRED DOES NOT DEVELOP NATIONS.”

Yeah right. Please repeat these words to leaders of PKR, PAS and DAP in their faces! Low quality opposition sleeping together in the same bed united only by their common hatred of the ruling coalition! buzz off!

    1. Most drug lords do not traffic drugs themselves. They themselves never see, never touch, never hold or even never stand near to the drugs which they are selling. They get other people to traffic and sell the drugs for them. Hence, the term drug trafficking and drug dealers are use.

    Excerpt from Wikipedia…

“Such figures are often difficult to bring to justice, as they might never be directly in possession of something illegal, but are insulated from the actual trade in drugs by several layers of underlings”.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assassination

    4. Tun does not have to defend his writings in this blog by himself because other people will defend his writings.

    5. PR politicians have to directly instill hatred during their political ‘ceramah’ because they do not have the mainstream media to do it for them. BN politicians do not have to directly instill hatred towards PR and PR politicians because the BN controlled media, religious scholars, cyber troopers and supporters are doing it for them.

    Dear All,

All of us have different views and opinions. However, NO PERSONAL ATTACK PLEASE. COMMENT ON THE CONTENT, NOT ON THE CONTRIBUTOR.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:No_personal_attacks

I have friends from UMNO and PAS. They are both good people and I personally like both of them. I have no problem sitting and having drinks with them. I don’t understand why we should call names on each other just because of our political differences.

Saladin fought against Richard but… THEY HAVE RESPECT TOWARDS EACH OTHER!!! Tapi… kita ni yang cuma tahap penyokong ‘kucing ku**p’ bukan main lagi mengutuk orang lain secara peribadi.

  11. Tun,
Let me reply to MiddleAges again.
Dear MiddleAges, before you accused other commenters as emotional and unproffessional, may i point out to you that isnt your statements of blaming the goverment for the ‘hounding and pounding’ of the LRT expansion project near your house as emotional and unproffessional?
Is your personal complaints on the LRT project near your house and want ‘a change of goverment’ a thing to argue productively?
Can i ask you what is wrong for someone to have a strong sentiment for as you says quote “things like ‘malay’ or ‘melayu’?
Doesnt the chinese also have strong sentiment for things like ‘chinese’ or ‘cina’ such as chinese culture and chinese languages?
Did the malays ever degrade, insult and discriminate other races in this country as you says simply “because other races are different, with different religion, culture and values”?Maybe in your kiasu mind.
If there is any discrimination, then the malays in singapore were discriminate on the pretext of meritocracy by the singapore goverment.
In this country you can still speak your mother tongue languages and practice your religon freely despite many of your kind cant hardly even speak the national language properly despite 55 years of malaysia independence.
Does the malaysian goverment ever stop or prosecute you from becoming rich in this country?
Dear MiddleAges, please wake up from your slumber and stop blaming others because of your own weaknesses and failure in life.
We are now in a modern world and no longer in the middle ages!
    Salam Tun.

  12. Salam

    Terima kasih.

  14. sentinel5 and sudin,

You guys really made my day. I can’t stop smiling and laughing and your comments lifted my spirit since 8.40 am just now. Your response to these “ungrateful” and “shallow” beings are just subtle but straight to the point.

We need people like you guys. Keep it up.

  15. Salam Tun,

May i respond to several emotional, unpoffessional and revealing attacks on me by several commentors on your blog.

    Dear commentors,

I have lived long enough to know people like you have not the ability to provide reason or sound judgement or most if not all matters in life, including political life. You are the sort of people who knows only to punch and kill those who do not agree with you, as your education limits your capability to reason and argue productively.

Please do go on insulting me, jeering at me, and calling me names, as it all reflects very well on the kind of person you really are, and readers of this blog with a good mind can see through you, and they know what sort of person they wish to lead them in a Government.

Now, back to politics, i understand there is a strong sentiment for things ‘malay’ or ‘melayu’, but to ignore, degrade, insult and discriminate other races simply because other races are different, with different religion, culture and values, is not going to win the hearts of those who suffered such persecutions.

Not that the people who insult me can understand these things, but then, it still needs to be said, a reminder to Malaysians what has become of our nation and brainwashed people, and that if we do not change the Government, we all have to live with these noisy chattering lot, forever believing they have the right to rule over us.

Power of the Government comes from the People.

    Thank You Tun

Tiba masanya kita hentikan senario politik melampau.

Amat jerih usaha orang2 tua kita mendapatkan kemerdekaan.

Wallahua’lam…

  17. Tun,
    Let me reply to MiddleAges.
Dear MiddleAges, while i sympathize with your predicament, let it not be an excuse for a change of a new goverment.
BIaming the goverment because of the ‘hounding and pounding’ of the LRT expansion project near your house is unfair, much more so if you have not made any complaints regarding the problems to the relevant authorities.
Dear MiddleAges, why dont you be honest with yourself, just say that you are for the oppositions and hates the present goverment.
Any simpleton will know that there is no guarantee that by changing the present goverment will solved your problems, in fact it may even made it worse.
If whenever everyone that have personal problems in this country want a change of goverment and there will be a new goverment, then we will be back to the middle ages.
Or maybe people like you should be put back into a time tunnel back to the middle ages living into a shack where there will be no ‘hounding and pounding’ ?
    Salam Tun.

  18. Salam Tun.

I wish to refer to the comment submitted by ‘MiddleAges’ (11/09/12 @8:15pm)

    Hi there,
I suppose you sort of getting good enjoyment being ridiculed by other bloggers here in Tun’s blogsite!
Recently you also made the open & most ridiculous declaration that you belonged to the “anti-Mohammadan” Islamic sect.
Now you’re complaining the government as being most inconsiderate due to the noise created to build LRT service near your home, meant to serve you & your family.
Maybe living in the jungles of Kuala Tahan suits you, but even there the birds will start chirping and disturbing your sleep well before 7.00 am.

The last time when Dato’ Seri Dr. M built LRT in Kuala Lumpur, Anwar and all of his “I can fool them all of the time” supporters had said the same thing, and also their other usual negative “only God knows” accusations & slanderous sh_t that only befit them.
I’ve long believed that ‘MiddleAges” to belong in that category, but to keep on highlighting your narrow-minded stupidity TO THE WORLD is really something to ponder!

This is the first time someone mentioned not to vote for the government due to the clatters of noise from machineries propagating development. Maybe the Environmental Impact Agency should investigate your grouses, and to check and verify that the permissible decibel exceeded the allowable limit of your earlobes. Have you contacted them?

By the way, stop your sweeping statement on implicating ALL the other Malaysians are with you, that usual phrase as commonly used by ‘Jo” and ‘donplaypuks’ just make them feel they are not alone in wanting/demanding to be called a moron.

Out of the blue and near the next General Elections, we observe a news item in the Star 11 September 2012 ‘ Koon Swan Case a Mistake ‘. The trial of Tan Koon Swan was 26 years ago and fortunately, he is still alive. And it is no joke. Congratulations !

Why express a monumental mistake after a quarter of a century ?

The only good thing which arose out of this bizarre news item is that Tun, your 22 Administration is vindicated. But still there are wisecracks who twisted and spun that you and Tun Daim were the hidden hands. How absurd can one get ?

I can tell the world that there was no such sinister motive by UMNO and by the both of you. Vide Malaysian Bloggers. I was watching very closely at the fringe of this storm in the tea cup and my assistance was enlisted at the very end which was far too late. Then, MCA was neither here nor there. Tan Koon Swan in place would have been better than without as to be proven later.

My first reaction when the Pan-El Saga unfolded was that it was political to do down Malaysia as incompetent and inefficient. Those were the times. And look at our beloved Malaysia now, strong, resilient and peaceful. Vide. the Star. ‘ In the end the Government decided that the CAD could prosecute Tan Koon Swan. ‘

And that it was unnecessary to suspend the 2 Stock Exchanges for 2 days over such a small financial affair because these were the arbiters of values. No other country suspended their stock exchange for minor misdemeanors. I believe only the Milan Borse was suspended for awhile at the turn of the 20th Century. I happened to be away for a couple of days during the key moments of the Pan-El Saga.

As I mentioned many times Malaysia has not got a perfunctory Judicial System like our neighbour. Vide. Admiral Canaris was stripped naked and demeaned by Hitler’s Judiciary and hung naked with piano wires. The drug mules of Australia and Germany. And now……Tan Koon Swan ! Related cases !

Slowly slowly the real facts concerning the success of your famous 22 year Administration for Malaysia, all the Malaysians, Malays, Bumiputras, Chinese, Indians etc and the World, will unfold.

I always said you deserve a Nobel Laureate Prize for Peace if the Stockholm Committee is not so biased !

Vote BN ! All Malaysians especially the Malaysian Chinese. For our beloved Malaysia !

  24. Asalam’kum Tun,
I cannot help but to give a piece of from my mind.

I think most Malaysian are born post WWll, which could be the reason why they do not experience or rather have not heard about stories about those times.
We have also, unfortunately, be living a reasonably good life (for the majority) that they have forgotten what “Merdeka” means. It is most unfortunate, including myself, not to have experience those times – under the British or Japanese, to be able to compare to the present living conditions.
I think, because of this lack of those experience and also because of the “reasonably good life” that has made us such – sort of arrogant. We might not be “developed,” like Singapore; great like the Europeans (once upon a time); or free as in US (land of the free); but we are some where there. We are at a cross road; knowing where we want to go but not knowing how to get there.

If we do not stick together, to continue the journey, then we will go nowhere.

    63. But one thing for sure, I won’t be buying Proton nor Perodua in future.

    64. Why?

    65. I hope that these companies can stand on their own in the name of competition to upgrade themselves locally and globally in free market system.

    66. Malaysians are pampered with spoon feeding by subsidies by Petronas.

    67. If we do not rectify this core problem, our younger generation will have to born trillions of debts in future just like the Americans and Europeans whereby they can change governments like what is happening in Western countries.

    68. Islam is not the the political religion.

    69. That’s why I support Malaysia Islamic fund.

    57. At last, Tan Koon Swan is cleared who was charged when the presidency was hold by the Indian.

    58. Will MCA’s Ling Liong Sik and Chan Kong Choy be freed too?

    59. EPF with only portrait of PM has bought the shares of FGVH listed in NY.

    60. Will Malindo Airlines a threat to Air Asia’s CEO’s Tony Fernandez?

    61. It’s time for Tony Fernandez to show us what he got without political financial support from the PM and Cabinet.

    Good day, YAB.

  27. Salam YAB dearest Tun and fellow bloggers,

    1. Globalization demands Malaysia to open its borders to others (and kononnya Malaysia has the ‘freedom’ to get into other nations’ borders, really?). Thus these nations, especially Israel, US, are ever ready to take away other countries’ sovereignty – Iraq, Libya, Afghanistan, Egypt, Palestine and Syria soon. No more Merdeka then.

    2. Globalization simply means powerful nations can come in and have fun in Malaysia and when Malaysia tries to stop them, they will retaliate aggressively (war maybe), semi-aggressive like sanctions (but casualties are just like going to war – many are dead) or through their ‘talibaruts’ (talibans are more respectable here). No more Merdeka then.

Once upon a time, the British intended to make gains by collapsing SEA economies, thus they suceeded in currency crashing involving Indonesia, Thailand, Phillipines, and our Malaysia…but Tun came out with that brilliant idea of pegging. The Brits, soros, al-gore and anwar ibrahim were and are still up to no good to destroy our economy. Lately (why la so late), our government is determine to charge suaram, the tool used by soros (until today…thanks to anwar’s connection).

Have you people seen the memorable picture of si gedik (she was so innocent at one point of time)wan azizah and azmin meeting with soros in US, in 2003? Ezam confirmed about that meeting and he said Elizabeth Wong, with Suaram arranged for the meeting to take place. These people you think are fighting for Malaysia’s kedaulatan? they are doing the opposites! PR supporters, please, do not help these opportunists (they are making money along the way) to sabotage our nation, please…

Look for yourself, why brainy like Dr Chandra Muzafar left anwar? Tunku Aziz? his buddies like zahrain, zulkifli nordin, the new TIBAI mursyidul, ezam, all the lawyers who defended anwar in first trial (except for one little indian lawyer), his special officers, etc…they know something we don’t know. Lokman adam (once Anwar’s special officer) said wan azizah received a RM5 million cheque under her name, but not a single sen went to PKR…or Nurul who got USD200,000 from Estrada, nothin went to PKR tabung…told you, it’s for their kind of keadilan. – go ahead, interview lokman, he’s still alive.

    3. Due to the power of globalization, PM of India ‘menyibuk’ in our nation’s affair when hindraf caused trouble. Of all the demands, hindraf demanded that the malay special status be dropped from constitution. During old days, we can say, ‘jangan masuk campur’, but today, it’s not that easy, big power can just show ‘kurang ajar’. No more Merdeka Malaysia…worst still, these so-called Malaysian Indians (hindraf) invited other countries to interfere – you called this patriotism?

    4. Remember the incident whereby a chinese (from China) woman was instructed to do ‘ketuk-ketampi’ in police lock-up? Chinese government showed concern…another big power showing mightiness…dollah sent our rep to see chinese government to explain and apologize…he,he…it turned out that it was a malay woman from malaysia mahh….dollah, dollah…But the moral of the story is…Malaysia is getting threats from bigger nations. Sort of;

‘ane kacau orang india, big brother India will come…’
‘lu kacau olang cina, kelajaan china mali malah…aiyaah’

I supposed that motivates some ungrateful chineses and indians to misbehave in Malaysia, maybe because they have big brothers!

So can we say we are Merdeka?

    5. I had heard in one of Tun’s speeches a long, long time ago….Tun was saying that rakyat can go ahead supporting the oppositions (that is what democracy is all about), but do not bring in foreign nations/powers…just get Malaysians to oppose the government if they have good reasons. But today, led by anwar, through ngos (smart ngo according to hillary clinton – better than the marines with guns), foreign powers are coming in…Malaysia is no more Merdeka. Obviously these foreign powers want something in return of their favors.

    6. Remember how Singapore, Thailand, Phillipines at one time made noises in UN accusing Malaysia of harboring and training terrorists? So you see, Malaysia has enemies internally and externally….so please, PR supporters, stop supporting your leaders, they have agendas for their own interests but involving/bringing in foreign powers. Some BN leaders too are fighting for their own interests, but at least did not bring in foreign powers – BN wants Merdeka Malaysia.

    7. Malaysia is rich with god’s gifts, that is why our ex-boss (the brits), US (to capitalize) and others are interested in Malaysia…Malaysia is an Islamic model country and maybe this is another reason why they must ‘conquer’ Malaysia…

  28. Salaam Tun

Eid Mubarak to you and family.

    Maaf zahir Batin.

My family and I was KL two weekends ago, what we saw on TV, Msian citizens stamping on pictures of Prime Minister and yound Malaysian Men holding aloft a ‘Malaysian’ flag was very unbecoming, self deceiving…if this were to happen in Singapore…wah dah lama dah ISD tangkap. LKY will not waste time with these kind of people.

Tun, for your info, in Singapore, the born and bred Singaporeans who are not happy are not 15% but 50% of the population.

I shudder to think what the outcome will be if there is an election is held in Singapore tomorrow.

In Singapore now, even the majority born and bred Chinese is asking his Singapore Malay brothers to close ranks and halau this newly pendatang…from China Chinese to India Indians, the loud pinoys, Mynmarese etc etc

Why? The reality is these Tom, Dick and Harry are overcrowding this tiny Island…taking away from blue to white collar jobs, causing an increase the price of a 99 year lease meant for Songaporeans, price of a car which life span is only 10 years, increase in prices of good and services.

Born and Bred Singaporeans are suffering. Malaysian read in the media – Singapore top 3 richest country in the world..the government, the MPs and the elite are rich but not the ordinary people. All are struggling to make ends meet.

Worse still, the ordinary people have to sell their house and most of them are now living in JB, waking up as early as 4.30 am to go to work and school in Spore.

Thats the truth but sad reality for Singaporeans.

Tun, when I saw these young Malaysian Malay men holding aloft the Red & White flag…dia orang ini bodoh ke apa? Sorry for my language.

Please tell them Singapore very rarely allowed Malaysia Malays to work in Singapore. Even muslim hawkers must employed at least when China chinese to be waiter, cleaner. Isnt this cruel!!

Please tell them Singapore only imports Chinese and Indian and other races other than Malay.

But to deceive Singaporean Malays, she will say they have brought in many Malays now…what she mean is Filipino Malays, because Filipino Malays are Christians.

So now you see how insecure these Singaporean people are.

Luckily Tun you know the game cause Allah make you a smart and intelligent man to raise the martabat of orang Melayu. We are proud of you.

So Tun please tell Anwar, PAS and these guys who hold aloft the red & wide flag to wake up their

Please dont be deceived by iblis and syaitan.

May Allah S W protect Islam, Muslims and Muslim Malays. Ameen

  29. Salam Tun,

In the begging of the current LRT expansion project, construction works begin at about 9 am and finish at about 5pm near residential areas.

Now, they begin at 7am, and still hounding and pounding untul late 7pm, with absolutely no regards for people lives and peace within the residential area.

I supposed the contractors are very poor people in dire need of money and wish very much to impress on the government they are working very hard. And so the public peace and tranquility is of no significance whatsoever, it is the money that counts.

How i wish there is LRT being built near the cabinet ministers home, and how i wish they would enjoy the continuous pounding and engine noises in their very own luxurious comfortable homes.

It goes to show just how we Malaysians and how the Malaysian government actually cares for the rakyat. We need a new government, no doubt about it.

    Thank You Tun

  30. Tun,
Agak melucukan apabila membaca tulisan HBT456 quote ” No one want to be poor or marginalized. But that does not mean that they can abuse the power and trust of the people given to them to get rich first by raping the country wealth.”
    Salam Tun.

  31. Tun

In a few words, you have succinctly encapsulated the birth of a Nation up to its presence today brilliantly.

The strength of Merdeka through successive BN Governments together with your famous 22 year Administration up to 2003 spewed forth the good and the bad.

Quote. ‘……..of people who only know how to hate and have done nothing to make this country better.’ Unquote.

You have proven not to be a dictator arising from the recent orgy of vulgar name calling which is the hallmark of some. The Star. The Seah Chiang Nee Columns.

I was one of those who were born when Hitler came into power.

A famous personality remarked that he became the top leader when the majority of the Germans did not speak out against him and his Nazis and his methods. Thereafter, 2 million Germans and 2 million Jews died. And many millions more around the rest of the World.

I am all for the present political-socio-economic structure with the legitimacy of the Malays to rule by traditional convention and practice together with the non-Malays through the BN as led by UMNO since Merdeka.

There is no reason whatever to change this.

Like any family, corporation or country, those responsible for scandals in politics should be made accountable with the rule of law.

We must carry on with the foundations which we have built on since Merdeka 1957. The reasons are obvious.

    1) Our beloved country Malaysia is a small country with a diverse population of many different creeds and beliefs.

    2) The time and crisis formulae of the previous Alliance and the present BN have shown to be successful but needs to evolve in modern terms in keeping with generational change.

    3) It is important to have a leader who fits into the 3 Criteria of Prime Ministership :

    i) Commonsense. Tun Mahathir Mohamad leads a normal life with normal holidays.

ii) The Ability to Think out of the Box. The system of highways now in existence and the many many more ventures from Merdeka to 2003.

iii) Compassionate. Since many people regard Singapore as the benchmark, I suggest a review of this world class country for the believers.

Malaysia has come to a crossroad for many reasons arising from the vested interests of the few and the ambitious.

Any one who is not blind, can see her strategic geographical value inhabited by people with a reasonable turn of mind in this turbulent world which have done very well in domestic politics as led by the BN under the leadership of UMNO. And to add the icing to the cake, the bountiful resources as created by her citizens.

And yet, the very people, a very few people with bags of money want to re-create a new world of their own even though their philosophies and beliefs are the same as the BN as led by the UMNO. How is it ? Something must be wrong somewhere ? Iconolclastic ?

This is impossible to achieve at the present time due to the short time available to these adventurers and the embedded instincts of the good and great peoples of this beloved land.

Therefore, I suggest it is more beneficial and contributory for both DAP and PAS to join the BN for the common good and without conditions !

The Malays and the Malaysians are ready to rise to new heights of achievements and endeavours.

Vote BN always all Malaysians especially the Malaysian Chinese !

    Merdeka ! Merdeka ! Merdeka !

  32. Assallammualaikum Tun.

    Terima kasih Tun.

  33. Salam Tun.

Many of those hooligans that trampled the Jalur Gemilang on the eve of 55th independence were mat rempit and even drug addicts who will do anything with the RM300 hard-to-get tucked into their pockets!
They never bother/know that the new flag is a Singapura look-alike due to ignorance, and furthermoe they couldn’t be bothered.

How can Anwar maniac and PKR resorted to such dirty tactics, and the so-called grand ladies of PKR (his wife and daughter) gave concurrence & full support even after having that knowledge??
It just show how desperate and unlawful that Anwar maniac & family can become!

That lawlessness attitude has always been his trademark since Tun appointed him as Finance Minister back in 1992. Being in full control of MONEY and with the power fully endorsed by Dato’ Seri Dr. Mahathir then, Anwar just lost/couldn’t control of his nafsu.

Anwar and family have all become desperados!

  34. Salam Tun and fellow bloggers,

There are a lot of issues related to MERDEKA in Tun’s latest entry, especially about; Tun being a happy independent man, Malaysia being independent, about Tun and his freedom, his ‘bersyukur’ for being a Malaysian, his bad memories about certain incidents, etc.

    But my dear The Hidden Secret had to spoil Tun’s mood and mine too, so I minta laluan ye Tun, wanna discuss with dear The Hidden Secret;

    1. clearly what Tun had related are and were things that he likes and dislikes, so why do you need to say ‘this article is little bit unusual as you wrote about immature 19 years old…bla…bla…’ Actually you purposely wanted to link this issue to others whom you said did similar or worst things, especially the Perkasa or BN people.

Tun just mentioned that he will not do such a thing like stepping on the picture of others, even those people who only know how to hate, have not contributed to this country…so what’s your problem The Hidden Secret? Itu Tun punya sukalah….you pun boleh suka-suka buat apa you mahu, tapi bila you suka-suka tunjuk tidak pandai, saya mahu ajar kasi pandailah…can aa?

IT’S NOT ABOUT THIS ‘KID’ (in Islam he is already baligh or in psychology means he’s reached puberty, so our laws may treat him as juvenile and Islamic laws will treat him as an adult) BUT ABOUT HOW HATRED INSTILLED, MOTIVATED, SUPPORTED BY PR SUPREMO HIMSELF – HE PROVOKES PEOPLE LIKE ‘THIS KID’ TO DO ANTI-SOCIAL STUFFS. Must oppositions do this?

Tun, or Dollah or Najib never instill hatred into party members or the laymen…but most leaders of PR preached hatred, particularly Anwar had used words like ‘haram jadah’, ‘anjing’ to BN leaders but not likewise. PAS and DAP leaders too showed hatred. My dear, try to attend their (PR) ceramah and then BN’s ceramah – then you will see the difference between instigating hatred (by PR) and sharing angry feelings (by BN)- oh yes, both have issues to address.

Hadi Awang and Nik Aziz succeeded in making PAS malays hated UMNO malays – am I bluffing? Check for yourself…latest incident I supposed was about the PAS supporter divorced his UMNO-friendly wife, or about 2 imams, or about ‘gang-clash’ between the two?

Please read or listen to Senator Ezam himself, who was Anwar’s right-hand man; he said Anwar instructed him (Ezam) to cause havoc if Anwar was found guilty – sure enough, Ezam organized the demonstration.

Anwar reinforced his supporters’ wrongdoings like; violating the laws, violence, fighting the authorities, etc. by giving them encouragement. BN leaders are more polished, they will not encourage wrongdoings.

The Hidden Secret himself admitted that members from both sides were guilty, that I agree. The only difference is PR supremo encourages wrongdoings but not Najib.

    2. The Hidden Secret asked ‘do these voters (PR) have hatred in their hearts?’ I don’t know, but looking at how PR supporters demonstrated violently, abusing the authorities, vandalizing, breaking all rules and regulations and laws, I dared say, they (maybe not all but most of them) have hatred in their hearts.

    3. Aiyaah, The Hidden Secret again tried to mislead us by saying as though PM Najib wanted us to ‘balas budi’
(‘kini masa balas budi.).’ Who said this? I agreed when Najib said the present government fulfilled its promises but the opposition parties did not (fully – maybe partially). It’s true right? Janji ditepati because BN fulfilled what it had promised to deliver, sometimes over-delivered, but under-promised. PR over-promised but under-delivered. There is a malay proverb ‘ siapa makan cili dia terasa pedas…’ Maybe PR supporters like you ‘rasa pedas’ because your party did not deliver what you had promised.

How to fulfill ‘janji’? PR is going all-out to rob the people and the states (under them) because they will be leaving soon…especially DAP making tons of money, but their counterparts are still ‘korek-hidung’, know nothing.

For your info The Hidden Secret, PR won in last PRU due to several factors and not because PR is better or BN is rejected.

    4. Psst The Hidden Secret…when I read your writings in Tun’s blog, I think you are an innocent person, a gentleman (who wants justice), a peace-loving man, and all the good stuffs. You feel pain when you see the mainstream media, the BN people talking bad about PR people…but, not TOTALLY TRUE – How come you never complained about PR leaders clear-cut wrongdoings?
    a. Anwar and his anti-Malaysia stunts? his liberalism? his sexual ‘sickness’ (remember, all the judges who freed him admitted that sodomy took place)
    b. Lim Guan Eng being ‘Malaysia’s no 1 land broker – taking the land from the poor and passed to rich developers’
    c. Nik Aziz, Hadi Awang splitting the malays because of politics (or maybe this is what you want?)

You can become a better person – seek the truth, read more about both groups. We are facing a dilemma, meaning both parties have weaknesses, but being a smart guy like you, you can choose a better one. Just be frank and honest to yourself. Salah kata salah, betul cakap betul…then your conscience will be clear.

  35. Salam Tun,

Extract from wikipedia.org: “On August 31, 2007, the 50th anniversary of Malaysia’s independence, P. Waytha Moorthy, a HINDRAF lawyer filed a class action suit against the Government of the United Kingdom at The Royal Courts of Justice in London for US$4 trillion (US$1 million for every Malaysian Indian) for “withdrawing after granting independence and leaving us (Indians) unprotected and at the mercy of a majority Malay-Muslim government that has violated our rights as minority Indians”[16] as guaranteed in the Federal Constitution when independence was granted.[17]”

    3. Tidakkah sesetengah tindakan mereka menjurus kepada pengkhianatan kepada negara?

Selamat Menyambut Hari Kemerdekaan & Hari Malaysia!

  36. Salam tun

The hidden secret is not sincere and has hidden agenda. Nobody wears shoe inside a mosque and no way shoe was thrown inside a mosque at PR leader. No muslim will ever want to throw shoes inside a mosque. THIS IS A BIG LIE. He should apologize , he should not just condemn BN supporter without any evidence .
There are a lot of lies/ bad things done by PR and he should know throwing shoes will not be possible inside a mosque . He is immature if he trust such nonsense things , especially when it came from a PR leader that will do what ever he can to be the next PM.

Some BN supporters bend their butts at Ambiga house but never reveal their butts. I am tired on how aggressive the PR supporters as that are all immature, even showed their butts, step on PM photos etc. Same like hidden secret, they are all immature.

  37. Asslamu’alaikum Tun,

MERDEKA!!!!!! And I intend to say this over and over again with a raised Jalur Gemilang and to the tune of NEGARAKU.

    Semoga ALLAH SWT perkenankan.

  39. salam Tun,

there’s one more thing that frightens me…
the infamous Chinadoll who stepped on our PM’s photo have a very poor command of Bahasa Malaysia! In other words she don’t understand Malay!

hmmm…I wonder if the poor girl fathom the Rukunegara and how in the world would she understand the meaning of our national anthem NegaraKu?

Maybe she just hums along to the tune like some of our friends south of the border perhaps?

Somebody should do something bout this!

  40. salam Tun,

    to the forever hidden secret,

I think it is more frightening that there are people like you who are trying to mislead other people.

I think it is more frightening that there are people trying to change this beloved country into a republic.

I think it is more frightening that there are people who are happy to destroy this beloved nation by accepting money from suspicious and smelly NGOs and individuals from abroad.

I think it is more frightening that there are people who will try to destroy the values that we hold so dearly in the name of so called democracy and human rights when they themselves are oh so guilty of democracy and human rights abuses.

    Dear Tun,

Recently you have written too many politically influenced articles in your blog.By doing so, now everyone knows that BN is not in a good position to win in the next general election.

.. The way I see it… he is just an immature 19 years old college student. It is more frightening to see despicable acts of mature adult of UMNO and PERKASA members. Their despicable acts were never been reported by the mainstream media… They only know hate. Hatred does not develop nations.//

1-I think I agree with you Bro Hidden Secrets that inspite of Tun’s declared confidence that the BN will win 2/3 again..deep in his heart he knows that things may not be true at all.I can sense that the anti BN sentiment is stronger now than ever, even in 2008..Its quite frightening.

2-In my brother in law’s kampong in Pengkalan Hulu..the ustazs through their religious ceramahs succeeded in turning what was a traditionally BN stronghold into Anwar’s supporters almost “lock, stock and barrel”..

3-Religion which the UMNO people has not successfully exploited because of their ‘secular’ image is being used by the ‘religious’ opposition to the max..even a questionable character like Anwar has the nerve to use it to project his waraq personality.

4-Simpletons will buy into these strategy because they believe that nobody would bluff in the masjids. But of course we know better what people would or won’t do for power and money..

5-Anwar is going for broke..”this is my last try..”.His gullible followers is working hard to make sure that he’ll win because another chance, won’t be coming.Anwar’s istiqomah is really frightening.

6-That is why BN/Perkasa has got to do what they’ve got to do..

7-Tun BN has got to stop this exploitation of the masjids by hook or by crook before its too late,,or 2012 will be a Tsunami worse than the one that struck Acheh…..

8-Both are only spreading hatred..esp of Rosmah(no 1) ,Najib (no 2) and Tun (no 3) ..not too sure of no 2 and 3 but dead sure of no 1 though.

    Thanks Tun

  42. Dear Tun,
You have said right again and again… just dont understand why many cant understand and being very narrow minded… My sincere advice to all that not satisfied with our country pls leave to whereever that you think its better but dont stir trouble here…take care Tun.

  43. YAB,

    45. http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2012/9/10/nation/11999070&sec=nation

    46. Why Singapore Government is having this barred age?

    47. If the Government does not take action now, PAP will be voted out in next general election.

    48. Poverty is a very complex issues that requires long term strategy.

    49. Today, Malaysians of all races are being robbed daily.

    50. Road accidents in Malaysia is one of the highest.

    51. Why?

    52. Because our BN is more interested to garner votes in order to win election only.

    53. We have 1st class infra structure but 3rd world mentality.

    54. Because our government is more interested in winning general election than managing the country.

    55. That’s nothing wrong with our system.

    That’s all YAB.

  44. YAB,

    40. No one want to be poor or marginalized.

    41. But that does not mean that they can abuse the power and trust of the people given to them to get rich first by raping the country wealth.

    42. YAB pointed pointed out that 27. And in ASEAN. Singapore has done well. But the people seem unhappy. 15% of the population are treated as second class citizens. They are poor. The other countries are so so.

    43. In ASEAN. Kedah has not done well. But the people seem to be happy via que sera sera. 15% of the population are treated as 2nd class citizen. They are rich. The other countries are so so.

    44. That’s why they migrate to other developed states for themselves and children to excel further for the rest of their lives.

    Good day, YAB.

  47. Tun,
Izinkan saya menjawap The Hidden Secret dan Halu.
Dear The Hidden Secret and Halu.I know both of you have your own hidden secret agendas to fufill.Eventhou i am a non partisan, please stop putting the blame on UMNO dan Perkasa just because both of you hates this two organizations.
A youth at the age of 19 years old and a college student is no longer an immature child and changing the design of a Malaysian flag is not a joke to laugh at.
You may not like Perkasa but what its leaders says is true since UMNO is no longer capable in defending the Malays rights. As the saying says, ‘the truth sometimes hurts’.
The oppositions wins five states in the previous GE is not because all the voters likes PR but because they are fed up with the previous adminstrations.
I am confident BN will prevail in the next GE.When BN wins, maybe you and Halu can both pack up your bags and go to the secret garden that you craves.
    Salam Tun.

  48. Salam hormat Yg Bhg Tun,

Tema perhimpunan yang menjanjikan bersih tiada memberi apa-apa erti apabila tindakan bercirikan tamadun lapuk menjadi amalan segelintir kepimpinan tertinggi Pakatan Rakyat khususnya Parti Keadilan Rakyat.

  49. Asalamualaikom YDH TUN,
I would like to comment on Hidden Secret statement, He seems to be one of the few Malaysian who still condone the immorale and disgusting behaviour of our youth who are being exploited by the opposition to do do their dirthy jobs. I suppose he would not be ashame if the same behaviour is performed by his children, as its the mentality and upbringing that he must have been taught by his parents. There is no excuse to have that mentality just bcos other people are doing it, does not mean that u can do it and its become right. And to capped it he did mentioned that the student doing it is immature..how immature can u be when u are 19 and now attending college so jangan lah cube menegahkan benang yang basah hidden secret. And if u are very matured hidden secret, u should be ashamed at the immorale behaviour of that student, instead of supporting it and sending a confuse massage to out youth today. As a responsible person u should as a matured citizen reprimand these type of behaviour, kalau hitam tu katekan hitam dan jangan yang hitam tu dikatekan puteh oleh kerana kepentingan politik kamu yang sempit. Malaysia does not need this type of attitude andbehaviour.
Wassalam TUN, jage kesihatan tun, we need your imput much more now..

  50. Salam
YAB Tun Dr Mahathir Yg DiRahmati Allah s.w.t.

    1. Kami bangga menjadi rakyat negara Malaysia.

    2. Kami pun kibar bendera setiap kali datangnya bulan kemerdekaan.

    Terima kasih

  51. Dear Tun,

Thank you for sharing your experience.

    2. Election is around the corner. I do not think the oppositions will remain strong as they were in the last election. In fact, I still believe what made them won last time was their deceptive campaign which was ‘not to win, but to deny the 2/3 majority’.

    3. With the weak administration last time, people started thinking to give the government a wake up call. When each voter in each constituency thought that way, the oppositions would have a chance of winning the entire election, not just denying the 2/3 majority.

    4. But somehow, the oppositions did not win the entire election. They only managed to deny the 2/3 majority. They were frustrated. They could not accept the fact that their master plan did not fully work. In denial, they blamed the Election Commission for being biased.

    5. I am sure in the forthcoming election, there will be more deceptions by the oppositions. That is fine. What worries me is their reactions when they discover that their master plan do not work once again.

  52. Salam Mulia YAB TUN Dr Mahathir Bin Mohamad, thanks for reminding our history to our younger generation again and again,my history teacher has told me that as well, and told@teach us to respect our INDEPENDENCE,STAND STRAIGHT@HONOR OUR FLAG WHEN IT’S RAISED AND WHEN LISTEN TO OUR NATIONAL ANTHEM.PROUD TO BE MALAYSIAN thanks to my TEACHERS from ST XAVIER’S PENANG. When students go abroad they forget their roots, acting like born overseas,in fact many foreigners are coming to MALAYSIA for their second home plan and some are not going back at all. This is because they see our country is very PEACEFULL. The parents too has to play their role and informing about our past and history instead of telling hatred stories to them.if not a 19 year old student won’t be stepping on JALUR GEMILANG on the 55th day of MERDEKA CELEBRATION,and another group are raising different flag and showing bums to our Prime MInister, wife and EC Chairman. these people clearly doesn’t know the value of our INDEPENDENCE, and how our freedom fighters sacrificed, struggled to get this independence. I truly believe those who has negative feeling inside them and doesn’t know how to appreciate the meaning of this independence, i urge them to stay at home in future and doing their own business rather than going out and flash their stupidity to the world. They should be ashamed of themselves because that attitude clearly shows that they are so ungrateful to the country and it’s past and present leader.MERDEKA MERDEKA MERDEKA!!!!!!

  53. Dear Tun,

Recently you have written too many politically influenced articles in your blog.

By doing so, now everyone knows that BN is not in a good position to win in the next general election.

For me, this article is a bit unusual as you wrote about an immature 19 years old college student who stepped on DS Najib’s and his beautiful wife’s picture. The way I see it… he is just an immature 19 years old college student. It is more frightening to see despicable acts of mature adult of UMNO and PERKASA members. Their despicable acts were never been reported by the mainstream media. They are the real people who only know how to hate and have done nothing to make this country better, not an immature 19 years old college student. By doing what they did they have demonstrated that they and the people who lead them are unfit to rule this independent country. They only know hate. Hatred does not develop nations.

    Rgds.

  54. Peace!

From the total of 7,878,875 voters in Malaysia’s 12th General Election in 2008, 3,796,464 voters (46.75%) voted for PR. Any of these voters steps on DS Najib’s picture? Do these voters have hatred in their heart? Do these voters have no contribution to Malaysia? Majority of these voters are from Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Selangor, Perak, Kedah and Kelantan. Do they not contribute to those states? Do they not love their country? Do they not cherish the freedom and merdeka which they are enjoying now?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malaysian_general_election,_2008

    Rgds.

  55. Salam again Tun,

    1. BN shows a lot to the rakyat on the why, who, when, where, what and how to ensure Malaysia remains Merdeka, right?

    2. Therefore I can safely say that BN supporters agree to these actions, thus voting for BN.

    3. So since BN is still in power, with more votes than oppositions, therefore I can safely infer that more people want a MERDEKA Malaysia…even though physically we can see people runnung down Malaysia, not flying the Jalur Gemilang, opposing the government by violating the laws, etc.

    4. We must not forget that the 12th PRU was the PRU whereby the incidences of damaged votes, lower turn-out of voters and protest votes being given to the opposition…so they won. They won because UMNO people sabotaged the party due to Dollah and son-in-law’s antics, because the people were pissed off with Dollah at that time for his ineffectiveness, not because the opposition is better. Therefore, again I can say that BN supporters are more than the opposition’s. BN suppoerters who ‘merajuk’ and ‘tunjuk perasaan’ but still BN supporters.

    5. So please, those who had ‘merajuk’ and ‘tunjuk perasaan’, please come back to make Malaysia a sovereign nation, ada maruah, pride and stop the opposition supporters who will drag us down with them when Malaysia goes down – ever heard anwar and his Nurul praise Malaysia when they are abroad? That’s not opposition’s function but rather a traitor’s.

  56. Salam YAB Tun and fellow bloggers,

MERDEKA is a state of mind.

What is the main condition to become someone with MERDEKA mind?

    By having high self-concept and abiding the RUKUN NEGARA;

What is self-concept? How you perceived yourself, how you look at yourself from physical aspect, knowledge, skills, et is your self-concept.

If you say or think you are an independent/merdeka person, you behave accordingly….therefore, individually you want to be merdeka and likewise, you want your country to become a MERDEKA nation too.

    My own experience;
I called a senior, experienced graduate officer, ‘tuan’…..his first response was..’janganla panggil saya tuan…’
I forgot and called him ‘tuan’ agai, and his reply was ‘saya bukan tuan…’
I forgot again and called him ‘tuan’…he responded angrily ‘ saya kata saya bukan tuan, jangan panggil saya tuan…’

My conclusion: someone may be a graduate, with experiences, matured, but not necessarily a ‘merdeka’ person, because he perceived himself as a nobody, a humble servant, a worker not a master (tuan)…..He cannot be merdeka-minded because he actually has low or negative self-concept.

    Another personal experience;

A friend who I dared say having positive or high self-concept. He is almost excellent in his undertakings, tasks, assignments, etc…oh ya, he is a MERDEKA man, feels free to be himself, man of principles…BUT, he could not be bothered with this country..he will take the best of this country but will not hesitate to leave this country if trouble arises – meaning, ‘cabut’ to greener pasture! and willing to stay, even though with foreign masters, provided he has wealth and free to do his stuffs.

My conclusion: positive self-concept cannot guarantee one loves to become merdeka man (maybe just to be merdeka to do what one pleases), but not wanting Merdeka for his country.

Therefore, having positive or high self-concept alone is not enough to have merdeka-minded mind.

With RUKUN NEGARA; believing and practising them, insyaAllah we can become better citizens of Malaysia.

    a) Kepercayaan kepada Tuhan; all religions preach good stuffs and therefore religious citizens will not do nonsenses, right?

    b) Kesetiaan kepada Raja dan Negara; we have a system, demokrasi, beraja, berparlimen…if the rakyat wants BN, follow BN, if the rakyat wants PR, then we follow their rule – we do not sabotage, instigate hate, provoking…we do what is good for Malaysia, not sabotaging her.

    c) Keluhuran perlembagaan; just follow our constitutions. Why create conflicts by attacking the malay special positions spelled out in the perlembagaan and caused havoc? Non-Bumis can practise their religions, cultures, speaking their mother tongues,, etc…the non-bumis cannot be stripped of their citizenships (unless they themselves do not want to be the rakyat anymore) even though they cannot speak the malay language, or fight against the government or the laws – they are being protected by our constitution. The malays (except for the angry extremists) can accept these. Check-out other countries; one fine example, in Indonesia, Thailand, Phillipines…any chinese names?

    d) Kedaulatan undang-undang ; I dared say the opposition parties members, followers and sympathizers broke the laws more often then BN followers, right? As if our country has no laws at all, these people just want to express themsellves without limits – my god…even the animals have their jungle laws. too many incidents whereby these PR supporters broke the laws of this country…and obviously their leaders are their models!

    e) Kesopanan dan kesusilaan; again, members of PR showed a total lack of kesopanan dan kesusilaan – again, too many proofs and incidents.

Conclusions ; Positive self-concept plus following the 5 pillars of RUKUN NEGARA can help us to become merdeka person., dunia and akhirat.

  57. Assalamualaikum W.B.T. Yg Bhg Tun,

  58. YABhg Tun,

” I merely followed what others were doing “… Ong Xin Yi was quoted as saying in one of the local papers. The model was accused of stepping on the photographs of the PM. My dear….you are lucky the others we not eating…..sh..!! And, you action only prove that you’re no better……..

  59. Salam Tun.

Referring to the propose new Malaysian ‘whatnot-called’ flag which has the full concurrance of that self-established/proclaimed king Anwar the maniac, it justifies the hidden hands behind all the political malaise that is happening in Malaysia.
That little shark called ‘ikan yu’ and/or his racist lot from Singapura is undoubtedly pushing for an identical looking flag as Singapura’s!!
How dare ikan yu and & his racist lot being so blunt and openly declared their involvement and intentions!!!
Or is it that Anwar maniac and his taksub supermorons are hoping that the ‘whatnot-called’ flag will help to convince ikan yu to give immediate & much stronger support than they presently received??

Ikan yu, the undisputed no. 1 Malay enemy, never fully satisfied after gobbling up everything from the Singapura Malays, not even leaving behind the tiniest of scraps for the descendants of Sang Nila Utama & Hang Nadim. He is making sure that the puppet called Anwar maniac will deliver Malaysia to him on their conditions!

Sedarlah Melayu, dahlah kita sedang dihimpit & dihina oleh pendatang2 yang tak sedar asalusul & yang langsung tak tahu erti berterimakasih saperti donplaypuks, joker juks, dtan, tuacheng, ecompute dll, kini mereka menggunakan Anwar maniac untuk merealisasikan sepenuhnya niat buruk mereka.

Now that tok guru(?) Nik Aziz’s thinking has become obsolete, PAS supporters should wake up and reassess their role for the benefit of Malay & Islam.

I realised that running a country is not like running a company.

    http://bigthink.com/politeia/countries-are-not-like-corporations

However, there are commonalities between running a country and a company.

    http://www.forbes.com/sites/realspin/2012/07/23/is-running-a-country-like-running-a-company-should-it-matter/

Let us imagine that Malaysia is a company… Let us imagine that Malaysia is Malaysia Berhad, let us imagine that the citizens of Malaysia are the shareholders and the politicians in our government are the chairman and directors while the government staffs are the managers and employees of Malaysia Berhad.

As shareholders of Malaysia Berhad, the citizens of Malaysia will appoint the chairman and directors of Malaysia Berhad whom then will protect and act on the interest of the shareholders. This appointment is ON A CONTRACT BASIS. The chairman and directors will then be paid accordingly, will be given allowances and perks. If the majority shareholders are unhappy with the chairman and directors, the majority shareholders may appoint new chairman and directors after their contract expired.

All this will be done in a PROFESSIONAL MANNER. There shall be no issue on ‘jasamu dikenang’ or ‘janji ditepati’ or ‘janji tidak ditepati’ or ‘janji demokrasi’ etc as the chairman and directors were paid by the shareholders to carry out their duties.

The followings are the sources of capital entrusted by the shareholders of Malaysia Berhad to the chairman, directors, managers and staffs of Malaysia Berhad :-

    1. Corporate income tax.
    2. Individual income tax.
    3. Sales tax.
    4. Service tax.
    5. Excise duty.
    6. Licences.
    7. Permits.
    8. Summons.
    9. Fines and penalties.
    10. Revenues other than the above.

The chairman, directors, managers and staffs of Malaysia Berhad are entrusted to manage the above capitals in the interest of the Malaysia Berhad’s shareholders.

It is true that most of us do not experience what happened in Malaysia before 1957. However, some of the members from both camps of candidates (BN and PR) do have similar experience with Tun Mahathir prior to 1957. Other than Tun Mahathir, Nik Aziz (born in 1931 in Kelantan) and Karpal Singh (born in 1940 in Penang) also have the SIMILAR experienced as they were from Kelantan and Penang. Anwar Ibrahim (born in 1947 in Penang) and Lim Kit Siang (born in 1941 in Johore) also have experience living in British Malaya.

Now things have change in Malaysia. Now, PR is not only an opposition party. PR is now a legitimate government in Penang, Kedah, Kelantan and Selangor. The MAJORITY OF PEOPLE IN PENANG, KEDAH, KELANTAN, SELANGOR, PERAK AND KUALA LUMPUR have chose PR. PR HAS MAJORITY VOTES IN THESE FIVE STATES AND ALSO IN THE FEDERAL TERRITORY OF KUALA LUMPUR. This has never happen before.

As a shareholder of Malaysia Berhad, it is our right to appoint the chairman and directors of Malaysia Berhad and WE WILL APPOINT THEM IN A PROFESSIONAL MANNER WITHOUT BEING DEBTED TO ANY PARTY. HENCE, WE WILL REJECT THE IDEA OF “KINI MASA BALAS BUDI” AS WE, THE SHAREHOLDER OF MALAYSIA BERHAD ARE NOT DEBTED TO ANY OF OUR FORMER CHAIRMAN AND DIRECTORS. However, WE DO ACKNOWLEDGE AND RECOGNIZE THEIR SERVICE, AND WE THANK THEM FOR THEIR SERVICE.

All of us cherish our Merdeka celebration regardless of which political parties we support.

  64. “Merdeka” is not just a slogan its something that we need to understand and cherish.

To me two parties is to be blame for the indicent at the Dataran Merdeka on the eve of Merdeka night.

First the party that instigated the people to do what they did and second the party that create the controversial.

  65. Y.A.B Tun,
Better the devil you know than the angel you don’t.

    iklas,
    Rahim

  66. Peace!

Anyone knows who peed on Nik Aziz’s picture?

Anyone knows who showed their sexy buttocks in front of Ambiga’s house?

Anyone knows who threw shoes to Anwar Ibrahim in a mosque?

They only know hate. Hatred does not develop nations.

The truth is… there are only small minority of the supporters of both political parties who misbehaved. Supporters of both political parties will try to leverage on this issue.

The majority of both political parties do not misbehave but… they keep silence when the other supporters of the same political party which they support misbehaved.

    Rgds.

  67. Peace.

I also will not going to step on the pictures of any people and I also will not going to throw shoes to any people (whether in the mosque or anywhere), and I will also not going to show my buttock in front of Ambiga’s house or to the photo of DS Najib Razak and his beautiful wife.

Shame on both political party supporters.

Dua-dua pon sama saja. Penyokong parti lain buat tak senonoh dia ‘kondem’ tapi bila penyokong parti dia buat tak senonoh dia senyap aje.

Bila Amerika mengamalkan ‘double standard’ dia ‘kondem’ tapi, dia sendiri pon mengamalkan ‘double standard’.

    Rgds.

  68. Assalamualaikum Tun,

    1. It is shameful to see the media channel of PR, Malaysiakini twist the facts in their favour regarding the flag and respect issues. Just like their LGE says, “Shame on you”, back at you.

    3. What’s wrong is wrong. To them there is no shame to use some facts and twist them to the benefit of own.

    4. As a person from a generation who didn’t experience the struggle, let me echo your Merdeka spirit. Merdeka!

    Thanks Tun.

  69. Good morning YAB,

    31. Subject: MALAYSIA — An excellent speech by Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah in UK – A Wake-up Call

An excellent speech by Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah (former Malaysian Finance Minister) in UK

Thank you for inviting me to speak with you. I am truly honoured. I have played some small role in the life of this nation, but having been on the wrong side of one or two political fights with the powers that be, I am not as close to the young people of this country as I would hope to be.

History, and the 8 o’clock news, are written by the victors. In recent years the government’s monopoly of the media has been destroyed by the technology revolution.

You could say I was also a member of the UKEC. Well I was, except that belonged to the predecessor of the UKEC by more than fifty years, The Malayan Students Union of the UK and Eire. I led this organisation in 1958/59. I was then a student of Queen’s University at Belfast, in a rather cooler climate than Kota Bharu’s.

Your invitation to participate in the MSLS was prefaced by an essay which calls for an intellectually informed activism. I congratulate you on this. The Youth of today, you note, “will chart the future of Malaysia.” You say you “no longer want to be ignored and leave the future of our Malaysia at the hands of the current generation.”

You “want to grab the bull by the horns… and have a say in where we go as a society and as a nation.”I feel the same, actually. A lot of Malaysians feel the same. They are tired of being ignored and talked down to by swaggering mediocrities.

You are right. The present generation in power has let Malaysia down.

But also you cite two things as testimony of the importance of youth and of student activism to this country, the election results of 2008 and “the Prime Minister’s acknowledgement of the role of youth in the development of the country.”

So perhaps you are a little way yet from thinking for yourselves. The first step in “grabbing the bull by the horns” is not to required the endorsement of the Prime Minister, or any Minister, for your activism.

Politicians are not your parents. They are your servants. You don’t need a government slogan coined by a foreign PR agency to wrap your project in. You just go ahead and do it.

When I was a student our newly formed country was already a leader in the postcolonial world. We were sought out as a leader in the Afro-Asian Conference which inaugurated the Non-Aligned Movement and the G-77. The Afro-Asian movement was led by such luminaries as Zhou En-lai, Nehru, Kwame Nkrumah, Soekarno.

Malaysians were seen as moderate leaders capable of mediating between these more radical leaders and the West. We were known for our moderation, good sense and reliability.

We were a leader in the Islamic world as ourselves and as we were, without our leaders having to put up false displays of piety. His memory has been scrubbed out quite systematically from our national consciousness, so you might not know this or much else about him, but it was Tengku Abdul Rahman who established our leadership in the Islamic world by coming up with the idea of the OIC and making it happen.

Under his leadership Malaysia led the way in taking up the anti-apartheid cause in the Commonwealth and in the United Nations, resulting in South Africa’s expulsion from these bodies.

Here was a man at ease with himself, made it a policy goal that Malaysia be “a happy country”. He loved sport and encouraged sporting achievement among Malaysians. He was owner of many a fine race horse.

He called a press conference and had a beer with his stewards when his horse won at the Melbourne Cup. He had nothing to hide because his great integrity in service was clear to all.

Now we have religious and moral hypocrites who cheat, lie and steal in office but never have a drink, who propagate an ideologically shackled education system for all Malaysians while they send their own kids to elite academies in the West.

Speaking of football. You’re too young to have experienced the Merdeka Cup, which Tunku started. We had a respectable side in the sixties and seventies. Teams from across Asia would come to play in Kuala Lumpur. Teams such as South Korea and Japan, whom we defeated routinely.

We were one of the better sides in Asia. We won the Bronze medal at the Asian games in 1974 and qualified for the Moscow Olympics in 1980. Today our FIFA ranking is 157 out of 203 countries.

That puts us in the lowest quartile, below Maldives (149), the smallest country in Asia, with just 400,000 people living about 1.5 metres above sea level who have to worry that their country may soon be swallowed up by climate change. Here in ASEAN we are behind Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, whom we used to dominate, and our one spot above basketball-playing Philippines.

The captain of our illustrious 1970’s side was Soh Chin Aun. Arumugam, Isa Bakar, Santokh Singh, James Wong and Mokhtar Dahari were heroes whose names rolled off the tongues of our schoolchildren as they copied them on the school field. It wasn’t about being the best in the world, but about being passionate and united and devoted to the game.
It was the same in Badminton, except at one time we were the best in the world. I remember Wong Peng Soon, the first Asian to win the All-England Championship, and then just dominated it throughout the 1950. Back home every kid who played badminton in every little kampong wanted to call himself Wong Peng Soon.

There was no tinge of anybody identifying themselves exclusively as Chinese, Malays, Indian. Peng Soon was a Malaysian hero. Just like each of our football heroes. Now we do not have an iota of that feeling. Where has it all gone?

I don’t think it’s mere nostalgia that that makes us think there was a time when the sun shone more brightly upon Malaysia. I bring up sport because it has been a mirror of our more general performance as nation.

When we were at ease with who we were and didn’t need slogans to do our best together, we did well. When race and money entered our game, we declined. The same applies to our political and economic life

Soon after independence we were already a highly successful developing country. We had begun the infrastructure building and diversification of our economy that would be the foundation for further growth.

We carried out an import-substitution programme that stimulated local productive capacity. From there we started an infrastructure buildup which enabled a diversification of the economy leading to rapid industrialisation. We carried out effective programmes to raise rural income and help with landless with programmes such as FELDA.

Our achievements in achieving growth with equity were recognised around the world. We were ahead of Our peer group in economic development were South Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore and Taiwan, and we led the pack. I remember we used to send technical consultants to advise the South Koreans.

By the lates nineties, however, we had fallen far behind this group and were competing with Thailand and Indonesia. Today, according to the latest World Investment Report, FDI into Malaysia is at about a twenty year low. We are entering the peer group of Cambodia, Myanmar and the Philippines as an investment destination.

Thailand, despite a month long siege of the capital, attracted more FDI than we did last year. Indonesia and Vietnam far outperform us, not as a statistical blip but consistently.

Soon we shall have difficulty keeping up with The Philippines. This, I believe, is called relegation. If we take into account FDI outflow, the picture is even more interesting.

Last year we received US$1.38 billion (RM4.40 billion) in investments but US$ 8.04 billion flowed out. We are the only country in Southeast Asia which has suffered nett FDI outflow.

I am not against outward investment. It can be a good thing for the country. But an imbalance on this scale indicates capital flight, not mere investment overseas.

Without a doubt, Malaysia is slipping. Billions have been looted from this country, and billions more are being siphoned out as our entire political structure crumbles. Yet we are gathered here in comfort, in a country that still seems to ‘work.’ Most of the time.

This is due less to good management than to the extraordinary wealth of this country. You were born into a country of immense resources both natural and cultural and social. We have been wearing down this advantage with mismanagement and corruption.

With lies, tall tales and theft. We have a political class unwilling or unable to address the central issue of the day because they have grown fat and comfortable with a system built on lies and theft.

It is easy to fall into the lull caused by the combination of whatever wealth has not been plundered and removed and political class that lives in a bubble of sycophancy.

I urge you not to fall into that complacency. It is time to wake up. That waking up can begin here, right here, at this conference. Not tomorrow or the day after but today. So let me, as I have the honour of opening this conference, suggest the following:

Overcome the urge to have our hopes for the future endorsed by the Prime Minister. He will have retired, and I’ll be long gone when your future arrives. The shape of your future is being determined now.

Resist the temptation to say “in line with” when we do something. Your projects, believe it or not, don’t have to be in line with any government campaign for them to be meaningful. You don’t need to polish anyone’s apple. Just get on with what you plan to do.

Do not put a lid on certain issues as “sensitive” because someone said they are. Or it is against the Social Contract. Or it is “politicisation”. You don’t need to have your conversation delimited by the hyper-sensitive among us.

Sensitivity is often a club people use to hit each other with. Reasoned discussion of contentious issues builds understanding and trust. Test this idea.

It’s not “uber-liberal” to ask for an end to having politics, economic policy, education policy and everything and the kitchen sink determined by race. It’s called growing up. Go look up “liberal” in a dictionary.

Please resist the temptation to say Salam 1 Malaysia, or Salam Vision 2020 or Salam Malaysia Boleh, or anything like that. Not even when you are reading the news. It’s embarrassing. I think it’s OK to say plain old salam the way the Holy Prophet did, wishing peace unto all humanity.

You say you want to “promote intellectual discourse.” I take that to mean you want to have reasonable, thought-through and critical discussions, and slogans are the enemy of thought. Banish them.

Don’t let the politicians you have invited here talk down to you.

Don’t let them tell you how bright and “exuberant” you are, that you are the future of the nation, etc. If you close your eyes and flow with their flattery you have safely joined the caravan, a caravan taking the nation down a sink hole.

If they tell you the future is in your hands kindly request that they hand that future over first. Ask them how come the youngest member of our cabinet is 45 and is full of discredited hacks? Our Merdeka cabinet had an average age below thirty.

You’re not the first generation to be bright. Mine wasn’t too stupid. But you could be the first generation of students and young graduates in fifty years to push this nation through a major transformation. And it is a transformation we need desperately.

You will be told that much is expected of you, much has been given to you, and so forth. This is all true. Actually much has also been stolen from you. Over the last twenty five years, much of the immense wealth generated by our productive people and our vast resources has been looted.

This was supposed to have been your patrimony. The uncomplicated sense of belonging fully, wholeheartedly, unreservedly, to this country, in all it diversity, that has been taken from you.

Our sense of ourselves as Malaysians, a free and united people, has been replaced by a tale of racial strife and resentment that continues to haunt us. The thing is, this tale is false.

The most precious thing you have been deprived of has been your history. Someone of my generation finds it hard to describe what must seem like a completely different country to you now. Malaysia was not born in strife but in unity.

Our independence was achieved through a demonstration of unity by the people in supporting a multiracial government led by Tengku Abdul Rahman.

That show of unity, demonstrated first through the municipal elections of 1952 and then through the Alliance’s landslide victory in the elections of 1955, showed that the people of Malaya were united in wanting their freedom.

We surprised the British, who thought we could not do this.

Today we are no longer as united as we were then. We are also less free. I don’t think this is a coincidence. It takes free people to have the psychological strength to overcome the confines of a racialised worldview. It takes free people to overcome those politicians bent on hanging on to power gained by racialising every feature of our life including our football teams.

Hence while you are at this conference, let me argue, that as an absolute minimum, we should call for the repeal of unjust and much abused Acts which are reversals of freedoms that we won at Merdeka.

I ask you in joining me in calling for the repeal of the ISA and the OSA. These draconian laws have been used, more often than not, as political tools rather than instruments of national security. They create a climate of fear.

These days there is a trend among right wing nationalist groups to identify the ISA with the defence of Malay rights. This is a self-inflicted insult on Malay rights. As if our Constitutional protections needed draconian laws to enforce them.

I wish they were as zealous in defending our right not to be robbed by a corrupt ruling elite. We don’t seem to be applying the law of the land there, let alone the ISA.

I ask you to join me in calling for the repeal of the Printing and Publications Act, and above all, the Universities and Colleges Act. I don’t see how you can pursue your student activism with such freedom and support in the UK and Eire while forgetting that your brethren at home are deprived of their basic rights of association and expression by the UCA. The UCA has done immense harm in dumbing down our universities.

We must have freedom as guaranteed under our Constitution. Freedom to assemble, associate, speak, write, move. This is basic. Even on matters of race and even on religious matters we should be able to speak freely, and we shall educate each other.

It is time to realise the dream of Dato’ Onn and the spirit of the Alliance, of Tunku Abdul Rahman. That dream was one of unity and a single Malaysian people. They went as far as they could with it in their time. Instead of taking on the torch we have reversed course.

The next step for us as a country is to move beyond the infancy of race-based parties to a non-racial party system. Our race-based party system is the key political reason why we are a sick country, declining before our own eyes, with money fleeing and people telling their children not to come home after their studies.

So let us try to take 1 Malaysia seriously. Millions have been spent putting up billboards and adding the term to every conceivable thing. We even have cuti-cuti 1 Malaysia. Can’t take a normal holiday anymore.

This is all fine. Now let us see if it means anything. Let us see the Government of the day lead by example. 1 Malaysia is empty because it is propagated by a Government that promotes the racially-based party system that is the chief cause of our inability to grow up in our race relations.

Our inability to grow up in our race relations is the chief reason why investors, and we ourselves, no longer have confidence in our economy. The reasons why we are behind Maldives in football, and behind the Philippines in FDI, are linked.

So let us take 1 Malaysia seriously, and convert Barisan Nasional into a party open to all citizens. Let it be a multiracial party open to direct membership. PR will be forced to do the same or be left behind the times. Then we shall have the vehicles for a two party, non-race-based system.

If Umno, MIC or MCA are afraid of losing supporters, let them get their members to join this new multiracial party. PR should do the same. Nobody need feel left out. Umno members can join en masse. The Hainanese Kopitiam Association can join whichever party they want, or both parties en masse if they like.

We can maintain our cherished civil associations, however we choose to associate. But we drop all communalism when we compete for the ballot. When our candidates stand for Elections, let them ever after stand only as Malaysians, better or worse.

The world is a dangerous place not because of people who do evil, but because of good people who look on and do nothing about it. Albert Einstein

    32. Talk is cheap.

    33. If YAB does not shout Merdeka Malaysia, the good people think Malaysia is under still Malayan Union colonized by British.

    34. Tokyo Capitalist is allowed to purchase the Senkaku (means fishing island) to enable governments of the world to earn revenue to safeguard this island and its seafood as additional safety raft to the nuclear power energy to the Japanese economy after nuclear meltdown caused by tsunami and human weakness in Tokyo which I think it’s imperative for the goodness of all mankind.

    Good day, YAB.

  70. I recall reading somewhere (really wish somebody could tracked down the source) that after WW II, the British want to punish Thailand for their complicity in the Japanese attack on Malaya by giving the Southern states to Malaya but was objected by the American. Pity, a lot of death, pain and misery could have been averted. Pattani is going to burn for long, long time.

  71. wow, Tun,

That was a very moving article. Thanks for sharing ! 🙂
Also a good history lesson !
    20/20 !!!!!! 🙂

  72. Aslmkm Tun,
Saya masih fikir mempersendakan bendera Malaysia dan lagu kebangsaan pada hari kemerdekaan adalah “the act of treason’. Kalau ikut wikipedia maksud treason “In law, treason is the crime that covers some of the more extreme acts against one’s sovereign or nation. Historically, treason also covered the murder of specific social superiors, such as the murder of a husband by his wife. Treason against the king was known as high treason and treason against a lesser superior was petty treason. A person who commits treason is known in law as a traitor.” Tak tahulah kalau orang lain fikir lain….kalau zaman dahulu dah kena pancung dah…..Kena cari punca dari mana sumber kebencian tu datang…

  73. Dear Tun,
I’m used to be not that care about Malaysia. Like u said. “So what with this and that. What’s so great about this and that”. Obviously I wasn’t born before that time. I’m early 80s. Being Malaysian never give me any sense of proud. And neither being so shame about being Malaysian. Just neutral. I will still tell ppl that I’m a Malaysian without any hesitation like others. Again, just neutral. Anyway, I don’t really think all this sort of torturing, abuse-ment will happen again at the countries like us. We are getting more and more mature although we are a little bit late.
But somehow, after I read your articles, I started to have this kind of “appreciation” for being a Malaysian. Merdeka-ed Malaysian. But, it will still won’t change my mind to vote for Pakatan. Better to try to swim in a new pool than continue to stay in the pool of deadly crocodiles. One power can’t stay too long. It’s not healthy. If the new government is not performing, we will change it next time. Then we will have a real healthy Malaysia.
    Happy Merdeka.

  74. What la that kutu kutu tu.

  75. Jangan kita lihat rumput jiran kita hijau ia lebih hijau, lebih baik
Jika kita pergi dekat ianya sama dengan rumput kita, mungkin rumput kita lebih baik

    Si miskin Malaysia mesti bershukur

  77. Dear Tun,

Please allow me to quote a touching message

//29. Hatred does not develop nations.//

Patriotism is a noble attribute. Those Chinese, Indians and Malays who hate Malaysia and their own government are in fact unpatriotic and traitors to the country, including Datuk Samad, and Datuk Ambiga who had demonstrated against the legally elected government of the day.
i have lived in Sheffield, England. Clean air, nice people, smiling and polite and helpful. The food are fresh, the eggs are bigger because of cold climate. There are no flies, no ants and no mosquitoes. Leaving our food on the table 2 or 3 days, we can still eat.
The same thing with Singapore. It is the third richest country in the world. Their MRT is clean and efficient. The quality of food there is also better than in Malaysia. But the people there are unfriendly. They do not talk to their house mates, or their neighbours even if you say hello or greet them. They are individualistic and devoid of any caring or love. People in Singapore are selfish, proud and unhelpful or uncaring. May be they are insular and live in isolation.
My personal experience living in both countries is that they do not give freedom for muslims to practise their religion. The call for prayer at the mosque,’azan’ is forbidden in England and Singapore.
Hujan emas di negeri orang. Hujan batu di negeri sendiri. Lebih baik di negeri sendiri.

    amin tan

    Syabas.

  79. SALAM KASIH DAN SAYANG
    AYAHANDA RAKYAT TUN
    Izinkan,

Ayahanda Tun narratives AS PER #16 sent the shiver up the spine. The old man on the bicycle was lucky it was a Thai soldier. Had it been a ‘Nippon Banzai’ soldier, his head would have been decapitated by a ‘samurai’ sword.. uhh

We have nothing nice to say of those ingrates who disrespect the National anthem and the Jalur Gemilang but.. catergorise them as D.U.M.Bs! (Deranged, Useless, Mental Blockheads)

But the wonderful and rakyat of this beautiful country will always cherish the freedom and peace they enjoy and will always respect .. Negaraku tanah tumpahnya darahku..
    Daulat Tuanku!

    MERDEKA! MERDEKA! MERDEKA!

‘WAWASAN 2020 BUKAN TITIK PENYUDAH BAGI JENERASI MENDATANG IA BERMULA.’

    ALFATIHAH, AMIN

  80. Assalamualaikum,

So I too will celebrate Merdeka days. I too will fly the Jalur Gemilang and I too will sing the National Anthem. I am proud I am a Malaysian, a citizen of an independent country. I will not step on the pictures of people who only know how to hate and have done nothing to make this country better.
