1. I spent my annual holiday in India. After three days in Delhi I flew to Mumbai. The population of the city is 20 million spread over seven islands linked by bridges to each other and to the mainland.
2. From my window in the Taj Lands End Hotel I can see a bridge across the sea to the City Centre.
3. The bridge is curved forming a half circle from end to end. The centre part is cable-stayed with two supporting pylons. The rest, both the eastern and the western ends are supported by concrete pillars.
4. The haze is bad but the whole curved bridge can be clearly seen in the evening.
5. I wonder whether the Mumbaians protested about being curved and not straight.
just simple. The mumbai bridge was meant to be.Then why create new thoughts that isn’t there or speculate ? Just keep life simple.
Tun, you really make me laugh today. I also wonder why certain people are to afraid of something that is not straight. Maybe because they afraid people might notice their real shape…shape of a snake..hahaha.
Jambatan flat mana bole dikatakan cantik!
haha that was funny…
i guess the Indians were able to think outside the box (read: curves)… unlike the previous administration yg lurus bendul.

WALLAHU’ALAM
Hahaha! heard Tun met Mr Shah Rukh Khan. How was it?
TUN…please2 make a comeback…and save this country…GOD BLESS
Colin Ng…hell with people like you guys…what is wrong with the scenic crooked bridge that was mooted by TUN…why must we ‘kowtow’ to Singapore…I think we have done enough to see Singapore flourish at Malaysia’s expense…ENOUGH IS ENOUGH…you guys are short-sighted..amongst others, if done and the bridge constructed with creative and scenic beauty in mind…it could also bring in intangible benefits and foreign exchange including tourist dollars…TUN you were certainly right with your vision and hope the present set of decisions makers will make this ‘crooked and scenic’ bridge a reality regardless of whatever views held by Singapore…
Sometimes I feel our present core of politicians and leadership are ineffective and let Singapore lay the ground rules…a case in point is education financing…
Banks and bankers in Malaysia do not seem to deem it fit to have education loan as a product…yet a Malaysian Govt agency owned bank in Singapore is providing education loan to Singaporeans and PR in Singapore. Yet the same Malaysian bank in Malaysia does not even offer such product in its own backyard…very2 strange indeed!
The same can be said to Singapore banks in Malaysia…does any of those banks in Malaysia have education loan as a product?
There are many of us out there…retired and have to come out of retirement to put our children through good education so that they can be an asset to the nation.
But because of some misguided politics and policies, highly talented students have to forego good education. In many cases, families and parents have to go through severe hardship to put their children through good education…which does not come cheap! Moreover, no banks in this country would ever want to loan monies to anyone, even for noble objectives, if you are past retirement age even though one is working after retirement. On the other hand, an individual or senior citizen working past his or her retirement age is taxed or have to pay personal income tax just like any other individuals…how do we reconcile such lopsided policies?
I agree there are many avenues for financing, funding and scholarship in Malaysia…but a lot of it are constrained by ‘meritocracy’ and ‘social’ obligation policies…amongst others…
Why can’t bankers be selective in offering soft education loan for studies like Actuarial Science, which would also benefit the industry and the nation as a whole…soft loan schemes or products offered to students that can be tied to repayment after their graduations (similar to PTPTN and other Govt aided facilitations). The product got to be affordable and not to ‘tie the legs and arms with requirements for guarantors’ etc…it can even be incentive based soft loans or multi-tier or conversion to partial scholarship as it would benefit the nation in the long run..
Talent Corporation…good but why waste tax payers money in wanting to bring back those guys who have left this country, gone and working elswhere. Instead, I think the Talent Corporation should start developing database of highly talented students (and academic achievers) who are studying overseas currently, especially those Malaysians who are self-funded (or self-financing) to offer them financial assistance or inducement for them to return and serve the nation after graduating and having acquired good exposures and experience.
I sincerely hope our politicans and those involved in making decisions for the welfare of this country could look into this aspect of the human capital management.
Dear Tun,
Granted, not many people have your foresights and the vision to see much of the future. For that matter, not many Malaysians have gone overseas so that their minds can be exposed to many new development in the world.
Those who have studied/worked in advanced countries might want to adopt the new ideas gained from their exposures but more often than not their ideas met with rejection from the powers that be in Malaysia.
To change what we are used or comfortable with is a very alien concept in Malaysia. We are not a dynamic nation, Tun. The Malaysian Malays in particular are very cautious when it comes to embracing changes or new things. It must be in their religion.
Dear Tun,
As Salam,
Mumbai bridges are built to accomodate the peoples. Wether it is crooked or straight, Indians they dont care.
Malaysian wanted a bridge but the leadership says otherwise.
Now the Sultan said what he wishes.
I hope all NGOs lead by Perkasa demonstrate to the sloppy Govt why they should build the bridge wether it is crooked or straight.
Thanks.
Wassalam
Dear Tun,
Once upon a time there was a grand dream to build a Bridge.
A grand curve scenic Bridge.
But alast came the evil giant who thinkth the bridge was an eye sore.
As it will be build right infront of his bed room window.
The giant used all his strength to get his secret army to make sure the dream will not become reality.
And he has got his way…thus the bridge ..the dream will never become a reality.
The giant would open his bed room window every morning content that his view of beautify JB is forever unhindered.
God Save us all from the GIANT.
dearest Tun
1-This is my second comment. So you were alluding to our own crooked bridge?Sorry I didn’t realize being so betul bendol.I thought you were serious to know the concerns of the Mumbaians over the crooked bridge.
2-Tun if you want to see our own crooked bridge happen this is the only way- you must take over UMNO again!Or you may pakat with the alternative coalition for you to head the opposition. This I think would be more feasible.Whichever way ‘I will follow you’.
3-Only you and nobody else would dare do this crooked bridge! Najib is not even sure if he has got the support of Malaysians come PRU13.
4-Since you are still fit at 85 why not make a comeback big time like before? You know how we miss you and all the drama. You will also have the chance to improve your rankings on the Simon Weisenthal Centre list….
Thanks Tun
Assalamualaikum Tun & Selamat Tahun Baru !!
(Well, you cannot have everyone to support or like you right ?, its part and parcel of life and I guess you knew it too).
Sekian Tun, take good care of yourself and have a nice day !!
Regards,
Emma Roslinda Edrus

Tun, there is no way we can build the scenic bridge in Malaysia because the government has admitted that Singapore is untouchable–they actually admitted that the new bridge even if built cannot touch any part of the Singaporean part of the bridge but Singapore’s fighter jets are permitted to infringe our air space; Our sand can be exploied and extracted to help build their many casino buildings; Our water can be sold like dirt cheap to them; Our island can be lost to them on a so called “win-win” solution. I just wonder why the small city state who has no respect for other nations can cause so much awe to the government of a sovereign country like Malaysia?
Salams Tun..
We could have had one of those too.. (the bengkok bridge) haw..haw..aauummm..
Thank you for the people responsible for the two steps backwards..
Tun.. Semoga sihat selalu..
Malaysia Boleh.!
A gently-curving bridge versus a crooked bridge.
Assalamualaikum Tun Yang Amat Dibanggai,
If Tun wanted the bridge so much, he could have got it. Just compensate Singapore enough by way of new water deals and sand. Malaysia had so much water and enough for the next 100 years. Singapore cannot use all the sand by sheer limitation of its size.
So what so difficult? The problem between the two MMs.
I hope that both Singapore and Malaysia can live together peacefully and there will be another bridge – hopefully curved but I am so disappointed with all the racist comments here.
QUOTE: “I wonder whether the Mumbaians protested about being curved and not straight.”
I see, I see… Tun is again alluding to the crooked bridge to Singapore. But before I comment, I would like to thank Parameswara 2 for taking the time and effort to offer his extensive and invaluable comments regarding the Prophet’s wars in the previous post. I need some time to digest, though… quite heavy stuff in there.
Now coming to the crooked bridge… As one who was born and lives in Johor Bahru, I must say that the price of using Link Kedua is really exorbitant. Not that I am complaining that it is expensive (in fact I hardly go to Singapore, thanks to our relatively low ringgit value) because building a bridge is not cheap either. But then again, the causeway is free. Why would we want to demolish something that not only can still serve its purpose but also free?
As we all know, the residents in Johor Bahru, including the Sultanah Aminah Hospital at the seafront, treat the Straits of Johor like a sewage dump. Why can’t we treat the Straits as an extension of our rivers and the sea as something beyond the Straits? With today’s technology, there are a thousand and one ways to clean up the Straits, without resorting to the primitive method of demolishing the causeway to solve the problem.
Thousands of Malaysians, not just from Johor Bahru but also from the North, commute to Singapore everyday to work, bringing in valuable foreign exchange. What would become of them if the crooked bridge is built? Unless it is free, they will not be able to work in Singapore anymore or worst still, they may find it cheaper to stay in Singapore, instead of Johor Bahru. Johor Bahru is today the fastest growing city in South East Asia, but what will become of it once the crooked bridge materializes?
Let us for once think of the common folks who has to eke a living, and not the profits for PLUS shareholders.
nice hotel… near shah rukh khan’s house
🙂
Got the swirl bridge and the hatred from Singaporeans for decades? That is not a good idea at all. No point to again claw with Singapore, I don’t really like the idea of wasting my attention and energy into something wasteful.
For some years now our chips are just not at the bargaining table. Our chips are down. As a result we lost the (Brunei) oil fields, Pulau Batu Putih, KTM land and the just being-constructed scenic bridge.
Tenang is not tenang. The ghost of altanthuya is still hovering around. People with bad records are placed in top positions – Risda, Felda, SPAD. Pro-Mahasiswa of Unisel is voicing the right thing. Let professionals run technical organisations. For example, the former VC of UPM could bring Felda to greater heights.
Years ago to cross the small river near my kampong house was by means of a timber-log bridge. The common belief especially told to children then was that a new bridge requires a sacrifice, a head. The headhunting is supposedly done by ‘keling sabit potong kepala’ who carries a gunnysack.
Perhaps, the scenic bridge can only be successfully built after the sacrificial top head rolls.
Dearest YAB Tun,
1. I believe the Mumbaians did not protest. In fact, it is more fun to have a curved bridge
Dearest Tun,
I still think blocking the two entrance of the narrow parts of the Johor straits and suck out the water (maybe can refer to Holland’s experience) to make Singapore physically integrated to the Peninsula is more attractive than to build a bridge.
To build a bridge signals competition, especially in shipping.
To landfill the strait signals cooperation.
If Europe countries once fought so many small and big wars with each other, and yet they now accept each other and can build roads and railways without caring too much about the borders, I could not understand why, between Singapore and Malaysia, who never fought any wars like the European, yet we can’t remove the border.
Landfill the strait provide the much needed land for Singapore and JB, and people in both countries will enjoy the freedom of not having to endure the traffic jams.
Perhaps, it all boils down to the same issue again.. which have been discussed earlier on. Too bad.
Salam Bahagia Tun,
Yes, Malaysians have never objected to the construction of the bridge. To some of us, it is a symbol of neighborly gesture that not only benefit a neighbor but both.
In addition, the new bridge will allow the natural flow of the sea tide which would revive surrounding Johor beaches.
But more importantly, it wil revitalize the Iskandar / South corridor mega projects, and make Tg.Pelepas a major port in this region.
Singapore should not be afraid of this development as it could build its companies here and still benefit from it, with full infrastructures provided. Put in some bilateral discussion to see how the development of this corridor could benefit everyone.
Salam bahagia.
Assalamualaikum Tun,
Apart from Pak Lah, all I hear is that everyone want’s the crooked bridge to be built. Whether Singapore wants the crooked bridge to be built or not is none of her business since it is in our territory. There are so many benefits of having the bridge. So what is constraining the government from building it? Please let the people know. I really don’t understand.
Eh Collin Ng
What win win situation are you talking about aar ? Why you don’t look at Singapore’s unwillingness to build the bridge as negative instead ?
Remember it the Johor Straits, not some Ang Mo Kio river we are talking about here ok. We will do as we wish in our territory. WE only need the political will which for now, sadly, we lack.
Eh Tua Cheng and apogee
Let the ships sail where they wish to la. Why you so kiasu and scared the ships will choose not to sail to Singapore ? Scared or what you.
And hello, nobody expects Singapore to pay for anything for Malaysia ok. Singapore can’t even afford to pay us for water la you think they can pay for demolishing a bridge aa.. dream on. We will one day demolish our side and build our half curved as planned. Snake or no snake sorry we dont need to check the feng shui.
Wait until another Mahathir rises from our soil, you guys habisla.
Dear Tun,
Maybe Tun need to post another article explaning how this proposed crooked bridge will benefit Malaysia…..If you have done so, would appreciate if you could post them again for all to read.
If you ask me, I don’t really support in spending so much money on infrastruture. We have been doing so during your time and still we doing the same under current PM like the Merdeka Tower and etc..
I was based in Dubai for 5 years and I saw the ups and down there. Although nothing official, Dubai almost gone bankrupt due to development whereby billions of dollars spent on development till the country need to borrow huge amount of money from his neighbour to pay their depts and to support all those constructions that came to stand still at one time. And still Dubai have not recovered from it till today. All buildings are not occupied and the property price gone down as well. I even saw retrenchment and workers running away from Dubai back to their home country leaving a lot of unsettle depts and bills behind which has direct impact on Dubai economy as well. Now Dubai are struggling from this and I hope they recover from this soon.
Thank you.

Yes, we like the Crook Bridge a lot rather than a people who is crooked inside like you. So low self esteem and purely stupid…”Mumbai Crooked bridge which is meant for tourist attraction”. Meant for tourist attraction???? Hahahahaha….
a) Look who is talking???
– Who is low-self esteem? is it some one which knew, when building a bridge which only beneficial for one-side and yet thick-face enough to ask the neighbour to join-in.
-Since people do not want to participate, then decides to build a crooked bridge which is technical un-sound.
-Self-esteemed and Intelligently challenged Scarecrow like you is a sure capable empty can.

To apogee and tuacheng both of you are very lucky that Tun display your sarcastic comment.May be both of you are Singaporean,You think in Singapore you can comment like that,I think you kena already.
If both of you are Malaysian be greatful. Aiyoo if not happy you can angkat kaki loo.Don kacau Tun lah.
If Mr.Mahathir cannot take opposing comments, I would suggest to rename the comment portion to STRICTLY ONLY FOR SUPPORTING VIEW COMMENTS.
Must I always believe Mr.Mahathir is always right?
Yet, in my comment, it is just simple fact, if you are Singaporean, do you want to participate such an obvious plans that will diminish their entreport status. Hahaha…only a fool in Singapore will agree.
So is this how we Malaysian way of convincing others,”I dont care, I’ll just build on my side” to me this is sheer arrogance.
Definitely, I’ll voice my unhapiness if there is, but your statement “Aiyoo if not happy you can angkat kaki loo.” Only proves, your inability to use a proper way or use civility to convince some one. So you obviously opt for the MOB culture, which is always shown by UMNO by the way.
I believe, Mr.Mahathir will have better or more convincing to shoot down those that disagrees.
Which is why, we are reading it.
Curved is not the same as crooked which is what happens when you have direct nego non-tendered out contracts awarded to cronies without transparency and accountability who then get “compensated” to the tune of hundreds of millions of $ for gaji buta work!
Also, Mumbai’s bridge does not go way out into the sea to encroach on Singapore’s or any other country’s sovereign territory with whom they have a water-tight agreement.
The problem with your proposal to build a crooked bridge is it is based on sabotaging Singapore’s economy. And that you should continue to pursue this vindictive proposal goes directly against your own ‘prosper thy neighbour’ principle or was it all just hypocritical hogwash you mouthed to try and gain political capital?
dpp
we are all of 1 Race, the Human Race
Tun
Very evidently you are still harbouring (false) hope of reviving the crooked bridge at the Causeway instead of allowing both sides to negotiate to a win-win solution. This Mumbai article clearly shows the negativity of you, sigh!
terima ksih

Salam Sejahtera kepada Tun dan keluarga.
Tun saya tersenyum lebar membaca blog Tun tentang jembatan Mumbai. Its just a tongue in cheek. Tetapi sangat dalam tersirat.
Kami tak faham lah Tun kenapa Datuk Najib tak mau teruskan adakah kita takut.MengapaTun? Atau pun biar kerajann Johor meneruskan nya kalau kerajaan pusat tak mau membina nya.
Tersalah pileh pemimpin kesan padah nya terlalu dalam.
May God Bless You Tun Amiin.
to those ungrateful “immigrants” who wants to take over our rights, i suggest they visit these countries first, then they will be very much thankful of what our government is doing……and maybe if even after these visits they’re still not thankful, then perhaps it is better for them to leave this country and go back to their “origin” country….we are better off without them!
Assalamualaikum.
Jauh perjalanan luas pengalaman.
Dearest Tun,
I am no law expert.
.. but maybe the parliament can pass some sort of laws that safeguard our public interest, that require the relocation (not dismantling) of foreigners’ structures that obstruct the country development. Not sure if it will supercede any previous agreements but if that is against public interest, I think maybe can.
dearest Tun
//5. I wonder whether the Mumbaians protested about being curved and not straight.//
1-Actually for this world’s largest democracy the Indians are quite a tolerant lot I find. For some Indians I know even travelling on our North South highway is already an itinerary by itself.
2-The Mumbaians have been longing for some great infrastructural development for their city so I think they won’t be too bothered whether its straight or crooked.
3-The Indians are paying rm4 per litre of petrol and they are not complaining! So Tun I don’t think these people bother if the cat is black or white as long as it catches mice. These survival and melodramatic people have more pressing things to worry about.
4-Soon we will not be able to miss this bridge in all their up and coming movies.I guess all the fighting scenes from now on will be done on the topmost of the cable span portion of the bridge.Seeing inspector Sahab fighting villains on the trains may soon be history.
5-Congratulations to Mumbai for this longest sea link in Asia.its about time these people have all these facilities after having achieved independence 10 years earlier than us.
6-Thanks Tun for showing the Indians why building infra structure is not a waste of money.
Thanks Tun

Unlike the proposed Crooked bridge for Singapore/Johor.
This is the connecting point for day to day use, unlike the Mumbai Crooked bridge which is meant for tourist attraction.
But it seems, the proposed Johor Crookec bridge are uglier, as it slith and swerve like a snake towards Singapore.
Rather it seems, this bridge is proposed in a way, that ships can sail directly to Johor and they can skip Singapore.
The main ulterior idea is easily seen, definitely Singaporean is definitely not naive and easily conned like Malaysians.”
Hey TuaCheng, what are talking about?? Palace of The Dead? We want to con Spore? Ship skip Spore??? You are getting hallucinating or dreaming until do not know what is a fact n what is not.
Yes, we want the ship to skip spore. Yes, we want the sea be free flowing from east to west. Yes, we want to build the Crook Bridge in our water. Yes, we like the Crook Bridge a lot rather than a people who is crooked inside like you. So low self esteem and purely stupid…”Mumbai Crooked bridge which is meant for tourist attraction”. Meant for tourist attraction???? Hahahahaha….
Dearest Tun,
I think majority of the Malaysian people support your idea.
Just need to make sure the judges in the Hague are not biased, but I think hard to say.. they may be Jewish people.
Salam Tun,
curved vs. straight ya, hehehe
very funny. kill 3 birds wt a single stone.
tak takut kena sue lagi by u-know-who ?
Happy new year Tun.
God bless.
Dear Mahathir
I think we, Malaysians, should just be intelligent enough not to make suggestions that we know no responsible government of any another country can accept. This is just third world mentality.
How can any Singapore government pay to demolish the causeway and build a bridge which only benefits Malaysia? That is like asking a person pay for a golden pistol so that we can shot his legs with golden bullets.
Tun,
Just got the joke. Funny one Tun.
🙂
Tun, Im proud of you. I suggest u visit Ummi Hafida’s blog to know why. Tq so much Tun for your precious 22 years at a helm.

But it seems, the proposed Johor Crookec bridge are uglier, as it slith and swerve like a snake towards Singapore.
Rather it seems, this bridge is proposed in a way, that ships can sail directly to Johor and they can skip Singapore.
The main ulterior idea is easily seen, definitely Singaporean is definitely not naive and easily conned like Malaysians.
Assalamualaikum Tun, bila agaknya jambatan bengkok kat JB tu nak start buat ? Saya sebagai rakyat johor ni dah lama sangat menunggu..
The bridge must have reminded you of the ‘Jembatan Bengkuk’ project over the causeway which was wastefully aborted by your immediate successor. Tun. No, Malaysians did not protest. It was Singapore
which objected vehemently. And the leadership then cowed away. We know why our bridge had to be curved. But did you find out why the Mumbai bridge had to be so? Has it something to do with the structure moving out to meet the in-coming tidal waves? The late Sultan of Johore certainly wanted the bridge to replace the causeway and he passed away without the wish being fulfilled.
I’m sure that the need for the bridge will be raised again. This time around would you still want the bridge to be curved or straightened out? We need to know why the Mumbai bridge was curved if it is other than just for aesthetical reason.
Salam hormat Tun, I look forward to see for myself the curved bridge when I’m in Mumbai this February… even though I won’t be staying in the same hotel 🙂 Malaysia Boleh!
Assalamualaikum Tun,
Sy doakan Tun sekeluarga sentiasa sihat dan dilindungi oleh Allah s.w.t amin 🙂
Personally I believe if the same question were asked to Malaysian generally or Johorians in particular but in this situation we focus on the ‘Johor-Singapore Couseway’none of them would bother either the bridge would be curved or straight. It’s all being well planned and study during your era for the benefit of Malaysian.
Sadly the previous goverment stop the project for the unwise decision. I wonder how Johor would evolve in term of economy and quality of people life if the projedct already completed by now. It must be flourish…

Assalamualaikum Tun Yang Amat Dihormati,
