PEACE AND STABILITY

1. I have often been asked by foreigners regarding Malaysia’s successful transition from an agricultural country to an industrialised country. Just as often, they wondered how a multi-racial country could stay peaceful and stable, thus enabling the transition to be made.

2. I myself did not, in pre-independence days dream that there could be stability for Malaysia and that it would change its economic base and prosper. I did not dream of this because when we were struggling against the Malayan Union and then for independence, the country was poor and there was a great deal of animosity between the Malays and the Chinese.

3. We have almost forgotten it now but the Japanese surrender saw the mainly Chinese Anti-Japanese guerrillas emerging from the jungles, declaring that they now rule the country. There were clashes between the Malays and the Chinese and several were killed on each side.

4. Anti-Chinese feelings among the Malays ran high. Part of their objection to the Malayan Union was because the British proposed to give citizenship to all including the Chinese.

5. Apart from subsistence padi cultivation and inshore fishing the Malays of Kedah had no source of income. They were very poor.

6. The Chinese were involved in shop-keeping even in the Malay villages. The rice-mills belonged to them.

7. What we in Kedah saw in those days was continued poverty and conflicts between the races. The Malays felt threatened and their reaction was to unite and form a Malay political party – the United Malays National Organisation. It was solely dedicated to fighting the Malayan Union and upholding Malay rights. There was no desire to cooperate with the Chinese at all, certainly not for achieving merdeka.

8. After the Malayan Union was scrapped and replaced by the Federation of Malaya (officially Persekutuan Tanah Melayu), the British misjudged Malay sentiment and persuaded Dato Onn to open up UMNO to non-Malays. His proposal was rejected and he had to leave UMNO.

9. To cut a long story short, Tunku Abdul Rahman, realising that he needed Chinese support in order to achieve independence, came up with a unique solution.

10. UMNO could remain a purely Malay party but it would work with the purely Chinese Malaysian Chinese Association to allay British suspicions that independence would lead to seizure of Chinese properties by the Malays.

11. The cooperation worked so well that the Malayan Indian Congress decided to join it. And so the alliance of racial parties was formed. It was appropriately called the Alliance. Together they obtained independence for Malaya and this same concept enabled Sabah, Sarawak and for a time Singapore parties to join and set up independent Malaysia.

12. But Malay animosity towards the Chinese and Chinese dissatisfaction with the terms of the social contract was still extant, so that in 1969 race riots broke out. Foreign as well as many Malaysians concluded that the fragile coalition had failed. But Tun Razak resurrected it and formed an even bigger coalition, the Barisan Nasional or National Front.

13. Fear of race riots recurring helped to keep the Barisan Nasional parties together. And so from 1971 until today the country enjoyed peace and stability under Barisan Nasional Governments. Unprecedented growth took place and Malaysia became an industrialised country.

14. Admittedly the Barisan Nasional did not do well in 2008. But it is not because of the Barisan Nasional as a concept or as a party failed. The poor performance was due to extremely poor leadership.

15. The essence of this kind of racial parties cooperating is the willingness of every party to make sacrifices. No party should expect to get 100% of what it considers its entitlement. Everyone must give up something in order to gain much more from growth and development.

16. The coalition concept worked so well that the opposition try to copy it. Today Pakatan is a loose coalition of sorts involving the three opposition parties; the PAS, DAP and Keadilan.

17. There is one other element that is needed for a coalition to work. Although it is an alliance of equals, it needs a strong core which can act as the first among equals. The core will act as referee whenever the other components fail to agree with each other. The core must of course be fair at all times.

18. On the other hand the core must not be too strong as to be able to go on its own. If it fails to get the support of the others it will also fail.

19. Clearly the parties of the Barisan Nasional coalition are dependent on each other.

20. However, should the coalition achieve only a small majority, it will be constantly threatened by the possibility of any one of the parties defecting and bringing down the Government. This is its Achilles’ heel. But otherwise the coalition has functioned well in Malaysia.

21. For a country to develop it needs a strong Government that can ensure stability. No one party in Malaysia can provide a strong Government. Certainly the “Pakatan” cannot provide this.

22. The peoples of Malaysia must realise this and choose their Governments wisely. They must not allow racial sentiments to cloud good pragmatic common sense.

23. Malaysia had enjoyed half-a-century of peace and growth under the Barisan Nasional. No one can honestly say that he had not benefitted from Barisan Nasional rule.

  1. Assalamualikum Tun,
    Semoga sihat sejahtera.
Saya amat terpanggil utk memberi pandangan.

    Terima kasih Tun.

*** Semoga Allah SWT melindungi Tun sekeluarga. ***

  3. Salam hormat Yg Bhg Tun,

    2. Selepas Pilihanraya Umum ke 12 tahun 2008, berlaku perubahan lanskap politik disebabkan pihak pembangkang tanpa diduga berjaya menguasai 5 negeri (Perak kembali semula kepangkuan Barisan Nasional).

Dipersilakan.

    amin tan

  5. power is a curious thing…3 greatmen sits in a room, a king, a priest and a rich man. Between them stands a common sellsword. Each bids the sellsword to kill the other two. Who lives? Who dies? One would answer….depends? But is it?
Perhaps then power lies with the swordsman. But does he? He has neither crown nor gold..or the favor of gods. The truth is Power resides where men believes it resides. Its an old trick…a shadow on the wall. And sometimes a very ‘small’ man can cast a very Large shadow.

  6. Salam Tun.

I was most intrigued when a Chinaman professor recently made an open declaration “Hang Tuah never existed”!
Whatever hidden agenda this Khoo has, it will definitely cause uneasiness and suspicion to us Malays.

The simple reason that Khoo gave was “recorded existance of Hang Tuah only appeared very much later”. This will probably pose serious questions to his integrity, and the proffessorship title is now another quack!

By virtue of prof Khoo’s standard, the following historical instances were merely hearsay:

    1. When was Brutus’s statement to ceasar “…not that I love you less, but I love Romans more” first recorded?

    2. When Lincoln quoted something quite similar to “abdulazizomar/anwar can fool all of his followers all of the time, but he can’t fool all of the people…”, when was it recorded?

    3. The present version of the Bible was only recorded after almost 4 centuries of Jesus cruxification. Thus Prof Khoo’s theory has put Christians in a bind, probably abandon the Bible!

    4. Who fabricated the story that Anthony and Cleopatra were in love, with no one to verify and no offspring as proof?

    5. How can anyone made the accusation that Hitler hated the jews when he personally never kill one!

I’ve always thought that the UM teacher Azmi “please call me moron” Sharom is the only true moron, but this Chinaman professor insisted that he’s one himself!!

  7. Salam Tun,

Growing up most of my life during your governance leaves behind many fond memories of love-hate relations amongst our now fragile society.
Born a Malay & a Muslim, I longed the day when we used to live in peace & harmony- like during those years when we visited friends from all races whenever, had meals together (with them respecting the haram/halal issues), playing together & even studying together.
I was fortunate to have parents who never raised the racial subjects & being children, we never even knew it existed.
So much have happened along the way & political leaders with vested personal interests had damaged what you’ve built so solidly, to make the situation worse.
We still need your advice & expertise to manage this situation.
I married a Chinese & have 5 still innocent children. I want them to grow up & contribute to this great nation we call Malaysia.
We need to restructure our education system thoroughly to suit our national requirements & achieve a common goal. We do not need extremists from any race based organisations in our government.
Malaysia belongs to true Malaysians who respect the rights of each community, without neglecting the history of the nation.

Sacrifices were made to form Malaysia. Its now time for more sacrifices to save Malaysia.

  8. Peace!

PEACE, STABILITY, DEMOCRACY, INDEPENDENCE has less or no meaning IF…

    1. The ‘elected’ government is formed through an unfair, manipulative electoral process.

    2. The EC is pro government.

    3. All mainstream media are pro government. Tun experienced this when Pak Lah was in office.

    4. Police is pro government.

    5. Graduates have to pay their PTPTN loans while Tajuddin Ramli and friends got away freely.

    6. The elite controls the politics, power and wealth of the country and keep on feeding the rakyat with all sorts of issues (religion – protect Islam, race – protect Malays, royal institution – protect the monarchy, external interference – US/Israel agent, LGBT, etc.). Malaysia will become like Philippines… it is generally the same families now as it was a century ago that account for most of the wealth in the Philippines. It is these same families that also hold most of the political power. Many congressmen, senators, cabinet members and other officials that currently hold office are descendents of families who held the same offices decades earlier. It is not just political power but also economic power that is accounted for by the elite.

    7. Other country dictates to us from whom we should not buy oil and in which country(ies) Petronas is prohibited to do business.

    8. Religious freedom is granted only to the non-Malays while the Malays have no religious freedom.

[38:26] O David, WE HAVE MADE YOU A RULER on earth. Therefore, YOU SHALL JUDGE AMONG THE PEOPLE EQUITABLY, and DO NOT FOLLOW YOUR PERSONAL OPINION, lest it diverts you from the way of God. Surely, those who stray off the way of God incur severe retribution for forgetting the Day of Reckoning.

[5:42] THEY ARE UPHOLDERS OF LIES, and EATERS OF ILLICIT EARNINGS. If they come to you to judge among them, you may judge among them, or you may disregard them. If you choose to disregard them, they cannot harm you in the least. But IF YOU JUDGE AMONG THEM, YOU SHALL JUDGE EQUITABLY. God loves those who are equitable.

    GOD bless.

  9. PEACE & STABILITY
    Assalamualaikum WBT Yg Bhg Tun,

  10. Assalamualaikum,
I have no complain against the current government. My principle is, if it’s not broken then no need to fix it.

  11. Assalamu’alaikum wr wb.
YAB Tuan Guru Dr Mahathir Yg di Rahmati ALLAH SWT.

    3. Doa kita mensejahterakan ummah, doa mereka menjahanamkan ummah, mengkafirkan ummah, melemahkan ummah, mengkafirkan ummah, mengharmkan rezeki ummah.

Terima kasih PERIKATAN DAN SEKARANG BARISAN NASIONAL – Tradisi Membela Rakyat “Rakyat Didahulukan Pencapaian Diutamakan”

  12. Thank you for posting Tun.

DS Najib is doing quite well. I did not like him before he became the Prime Minister. But, I like him now 🙂 As I see, he is working very hard to win back the support of the people. He has won my support, my vote, perhaps majority of the people as well.

I just wish to have a peaceful Malaysia.

  13. True it cannot be denied that we have done quite well for a small country, but it cannot also be denied that we could have done extremely well, only if we do not condone corruption so blatantly! COWGATE! COPGATE! and what not !

  14. Salam Tun..

Betulkan jika saya salah.. Terima kasih..

  15. Assalamualaikum wbt Yg Bhg Tun,

  17. Salam Tun and All,

Corruption cases in Malaysia happened on isolated cases and mainly involved business dealings. Most Malaysian never have to go through corruption experience except when they want to evade speeding tickets by giving RM30 bribe to the traffic police. Both giver and receiver are guilty although the giver likes to claim their innocent.

In other countries, the picture of rampant corruption potrayed by our Opposition is really happening. People in this kind of country really have to pay for school registration, birth certificate, identification card, driving licence, burial permits, employement in Government office and the list goes on and on no matter what small errand you have with the government. How many Malaysians have this type of experience?

The businessmen which is mostly Chinese are currently accusing government of corruption. They are mainly givers who are guilty as much as the receiver but are using this issue to bring down the current government. They know themselves that they will pay the same to the next government for any business dealings to win the competition. Worse still, the triads are backing this ‘Pakatan’ right now for reason that only God knows why…

Actually, what they want to express is that they want it like the good old days where their economic survival been taken care of like Tun did. Corruption is not actually what their issue is. It is just that Pak Lah has shut the water tap dry and they have very limited cake distribution. PM Najib must know how to distribute it like Tun did.

The country I went where corruption is rampant is obvious to their country development. Immadiately I can find that it is full of inefficiency, low class infrastructure, filthy and not stabil. I must say, Malaysia is way ahead by comparison.

When our Oppo highlighted issue by issue on the corruption and inefficiency in Malaysia what they don’t like to talk about is that there are bunch of good people in the current Government who balance up the people who are corrupted. By and large we Malaysian must be very grateful that the corruption is not rampant because there are many others who are clean that outweight the one who are corrupted. This is the only reason why we can be as what we are today. Otherwise you can imagine our country is same like Indonesia and India….

When we want to assess something, we look in entirety. Unless we are strongly partisan who have direct interest in politics, I suggest we measure BN through their good and bad and not just the bad ones only. When we want to change, we want it for the better not the other way around. It is very clearly that BN have good track record for Malaysians. This time is not Pak Lah time, they have improve a lot. As a citizen, it would be rather beneficial to me to vote for BN come this PRU.

To improve on the corruption issue, I suggest that the current government reduce bureaucracy and enhance its whistle blower policy. In fact both parties should discuss ideas in the Parliament on how this can be resolved rather than accusing each other for political milleage…I know both parties may have been collecting corruption money for political purposes. In the US, this practice is legalised.

Other than politics, there are some who did it for personal greed. This has never been legalised in any country and the charge can be mandatory. This type of people came in both sides of coin not just BN only. Some of the Government servants who voted for the Oppo and strongly campaigning against the current government are corrupted also.

By improving the controls and increasing awareness, hopefully, the numbers of corrupted people for personal lust and greed will further reduce.

  18. YABhg Tun,

What ever it is…., it should be an UMNO or PAS led government!! Malays need to vote en block either UMNO or PAS…no 2 ways about it!!!

  19. Salam Tun..

    Melayu bukan harus bersatu…
    Melayu WAJIB bersatu…

    Terima kasih..
    Harap Tun Sekeluarga Sihat Sejahtera..

  20. Tun

On the subject of a ‘strong leader’, I have come to the conclusion that I could put all his attributes into 3 categories of this leader’s capabilities and abilities after studying closely the public personalities of both sides of the Causewy for over 50 years since a significant event happened in my family in October 1951.

From then on, I became curious to observe and find out what made these great people clicked and ticked !

To my amazement, some icons who are worshipped on both sides of the Causeway failed in one or two of the attributes resulting in failed leadership and putting their constituents at great risk in this fast moving world of cyberspace.

The natives do not paddle the canoes anymore but operate super-computers.

With your permission, my 3 Attributes Test for a prospective or incumbent Prime Minister is the result of over 50 years of close study. ( This has been shot down as rubbish at 2 Blogs ). Without even a rudimentary test, how are we the citizens or common people to know how good or how bad a Prime Minister can be ?

    1. Commonsense

    2. The Ability to think out of the box to create, to innovate and to have a vision.

    3. Compassion.

The grading is from 0 to 10. And as I have said before Tun, you have 10 for Commonsense, 10 for the Ability to think out of the box and more than 10 for Compassion. ( In other words, some people let you down ).

And if I applied the 3 Attributes Test to one or two well-known icons, to my horror, I found 5 for Commonsense, 5 for the Ability to think and 0 for Compassion.

The 3 Attributes Test is a very practical tool to select candidates for important posts like that for Deputies especially for a multi-racial nation.

For the very first time through this Test, we are now able to link the good and the great personalities on both sides of the Causeway instead of only listening to hearsay.

And finally, I found to my surprise that there are Malaysians who had better grades at the entrance to Cambridge University, better than those across the Causeway after over 50 years of research ! It is funny how some people worshipped the wrong gods.

    Facts are facts.

  21. Assalamaulaikum wbt Yg Bhg Tun,

Soal perinsip perjuangan parti Pas khususnya diketepikan terlebih dahulu demi mendapatkan kuasa memerintah negara.

  22. As Malaysia approaches its 13th general Elections there appears to be a more than cavalier attitude by the mainly Chinese polity who appear to believe what Chin Peng declared on their behalf and on behalf of mainland China who supported him then. The Peninsula Malaya and its territories was an extension of China.

It is a recipe for disaster especially now when the modern day Mao, one Lee Kuan Yew and his state apparatus make statements about marginalization of the Malaysian Chinese without all the facts to hand.

It is inappropriate for a country like Singapore to meddle in the internal affairs of Malaysia as what happens within Malaysia is not an international issue. It is purely internal.

The British gave citizenship or got the Tengku to do it fearing a flood of British subjects (mainly Chinese) into the UK then. They faced the same problem when Idi Amin outed Indians with British citizenship from Uganda in 1971.

Today the mainly Chinese led social media is not critical of government. Thats an accepted and acceptable part of a democracy. They are provocatively anti Malay and anti Islam and adopt the outdated vitriolic and overtly racist anti Islamic rhetoric of a discredited Bush era.

The propaganda by the Chinese who are the hand in the glove they call Anwar, goes to the extent they have even plagiarised and defrauded the works of notable public figures including academics and world leaders claiming in some instances that these people have made anti Islamic statements or claimed Malaysia is racist. All this in support of their policy free election campaign.

The most recent in this wave include the claim a Qantas pilot and prime minister Julia Gillard asked Muslims who did not agree with Australia to go back to where they came from. A telephone call, an email and a letter to each of these people including PM Gillard’s office confirms no such statement was made by her. The same with QANTAS.

One wonders what extent the Chinese so desperate to take over Malaysia and turn it into a China town will go. Will they risk another May 13th. Let hope not. But the rest of us can’t sit idly by on our hands. We need to check this menace and take to task those who are responsible for this vile propaganda campaign.

The LSE professor who is supposed to be the author of the report purportedly sent to the US senate that Malaysia is a racist country has in an open letter denied he wrote such a report and is troubled by it. Malaysian Chinese students in London, including follwoers of Hindraf’s Waythamurthi and followers of runaway blogger Raja Petra Kamaruddin are behind it from what we know.

  23. Assalamualaikum wbt Yg Bhg Tun,

Manakala UMNO/BN dibawah kepimpinan YAB Dato’ Seri Mohd Najib Tun Hj.

  24. Tun,
Whenever you speak out, people seriously take note. People need your word not just on those favorite issues of yours but also the small man in the street issues.

Thus you have to be a champion against corruption. Your word can breath fire down those corrupt officials around the corridors of powers necks. Advice them to remember the accounting in the Hereafter or at least those poor folks who do not have the chance to walk those corridors.

  26. A’salamkum Tun,

I think the only mistake BN made was passing the baton to Tun Pak Lah. Maybe, the things and conditions was not so bad at that time.
There was really over confidence in the BN at that time so much that they (the government) thinks that they are invincible.
The worst (or rather) the biggest mistake Pak lah made was to release DSAI. I noticed once he is out, things change dramatically immediately. He was absolutely lost, he was clearly at the mercy of him. I wonder whether he realised this.
I would agree with you that this country needs a strong leader, to be able to hold up to everyone and yet each feels that they (the party or community) that represents is well taken care of. Although, we could do so much at any one time only. We can only help “some of the people all the time, or all the people some of the time.”

  27. Assalamualikum Tun

Realiti yang nyata dan sukar untuk bukan Melayu – no more ‘silap mata’ (no more compromise)!

Sudah lama dah! jangan compromise lagi!

  28. Tun

Sorry ! I like to clarify what the call was which was missed by the meritocratic pyramid with the smartest fellow at the tip. In the study of the history of money, the barbaric relic called gold was always mentioned time and time again with the same frequency as all those economical cycles which were studied through the ages. Where the meritocratic pyramid missed out was when the Cold War ended and the great United States of America kept up its growth and the economic policies of Margaret Thatcher 10 years earlier. Even Allan Greenspan mentioned about some froth in the housing markets in California and Florida in June 2006 at a farewell Congressional hearing. All the super types believed in each other and missed the dinosaur of 2007/8 at the gate. Maybe, they did not miss. Who knows ?

From the above, any investment in Wall Street by any sovereign fund has to be considered very seriously because it is now shown that those chaps were doing a magic show with smoke and mirrors whilst behaving like paper tigers !

All things being equal, the obvious investment would have to be gold for the meritocratic pyramid. The meritocrats would have controlled the world and Malaysia, maybe together with the United States. That would be definitely a different scenario – a scenario of world power. That is all gone. And a much more difficult era of relationships have now arisen for the meritocratic pyramid which has to consider how close to be with the United States. Maybe even as the 53rd State of the Union ?

  29. Tun

I am an apolitical and independent observer of the public personalities on both sides of the Causeway since a significant event happened in my family since October 1951.

I was fortunate to be born at the right time to observe the great and changing events which moved the 20th century and carried the rest of the world into the 21st century. And during this time, our beloved and unique nation Malaysia was born.

A unique nation containing mainly people from 3 fine ancient civilisations and some others too. These peoples have contributed by their sweat and toil to what we have as peace and stabiltiy in a diverse country today.

How many of us note that a lot of violence and unrest we see in our television sets every evening happened amongst fairly homogeneous racial populations ?

How many of us remember or know how through a lot of trials and tribulations the political leadership of Malaysia had led us to where we are today with peace and stability ?

How many of us know that the financial scandals plaguing this country have happened in all countries of the world and the extent is only a matter of degree and form ? In the case of Malaysia, there was corruption during the colonial times and even in countries which claim to be free from it. Money scandals is always endemic where humankind exists, somewhat like where you find man, you will find woman ! It is the containment of this disease which is the foremost battle of every government world-wide. Eradication is but a dream. Let us hope the latest outbreak in our country will subside soon. My view is that there will be less corruption if the general economy is dynamic and strong. The right people must be engaged to manage seriously the business of managing money which is the most difficult commodity of all to handle.

Peace and stability would not have happened in our beloved Nation without the practice of humanity and multiculturalism not only by the political leaders and successive Governments after Merdeka but also through the centuries of yore by the Royal Sultans who were the rulers of this beloved land ! I am sorry to say the Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA) could have played a much bigger role if they had qualified leaders and Malaysia would have been an even better country. Unfortunately, only one was qualified and he could not keep up with the team. As always, it is not too late for the MCA to face the realpolitik of the present age if it can change the image of the Malaysian Chinese as being synonymous with money !

Political events in Malaya concerning the imposition of the Malayan Union were the Malayan equivalent of the Arab Spring in recent times.
The Malayan Union was aborted and the rest is history.

The success of the peace and stability of today arose from the wise Malay political leadership since 1946 and the recognition of the real politik there and then. The socio-economic situation of the Bumiputras was dire even after the promulgation fo the NEP in 1971 because Tun Abdul Razak the architect of the NEP passed away soon after. It really began to take off after you assumed the Premiership, Tun, 10 years late. with the creation of a well-endowed Bumiputra middle class and further improvement of living standards amongst the non-Bumiputras. And no one has mentioned this before ! The policy encouraged the Malays to work in the towns and formed the base of the next stage of Malaysia’s development under your watch of 22 years.

In Kuala Lumpur, even in the 1960s, there were not many Malays in residence.

Of course, we must have progress in keeping with the needs of the existing population. However, in Malaysia especially. progress of whatever kind must be tempered with a clear understanding of the past by the political leaders and the general population. In Malaysia’s case, her history of religion, culture, the influx of peoples from far away places, colonialism, etc must be clearly understood. This is the weakness of some of the partners in the BN creating chinks in its armour. Colonialism played the major role in the lives and professions of the inhabitants concerning their very existence in this land. Many people today take the easy way out by listening to hearsay. Most of them do not have a newspaper in the house. This is where parties like the MCA should have worked their guts out to counter any misgivings about the practical and strong politcal alliance of Malaysian BN years ago and not just before elections. It is still not too late for the MCA !

Tun, you are right about the BN. You knew how to administer a country with disparate peoples successfully. You operated the pyramid of power successfully and made sure the ingredient to glue all the people together to work for the common good was there. This was the transformation from an agrarian economy to an industrialised one. This meant the goodies flowed down the slippery slope of the power pyramid to us the proletariat at the bottom. And the Government under your leadership was the referee.

However, when the goodies did not flow down the slippery slope from 2003 to 2011 and in fact, it completely dried up, the people became restless and unhappy. And worse still, nothing earth-shattering happened. This void opened up the BN to all sorts of problems and attacks by the detractors. Why am I saying all this ?

I have worked closely on the ground for over 50 years. The Malaysian employees of any corporation have never disappointed me in my negotiations with them. I found them to be intelligent and reasonable and I can proudly say they were world-class if properly led to do the job in the right manner. There is still plenty of hope for this country because of the 99% of the population who only seek a job, education for the children, a house, a car and maybe a trip now and then plus security and peace of mind to carry out their business whatever.

I reckon any model which is different from the BN formula will be like opening the Pandora’s box of unlimited and uncontrollable problems. The peace and stability which are in place now are gone. Flew away maybe forever. Who can guarantee that this will not happen ? And who will guarantee that we Malaysians will not be a news item every night ?

And why am I so confident to say all this ? The reason is because I could not find an iota of political ideology in any political party in Malaysia. To me, it seems to be one big personal quarrel to achieve power. On the one hand, the incumbent wants to stay because they had served the country well , on the other, the nay-sayers claim to be able to do the job better.

My answer to this problem is straightforward. If the incumbents say that the BN will perform better than normal, they win hands down. The key is the leadership to practise normalcy. I have trust in my fellow Malaysians for being that forgiving ! And everyone knows everybody makes mistakes including those who claimed to be meritocratic and mighty !!

Meritocracy is another word commonly bandies around as if the Malaysians are not meritocratic. I have come across a much vaunted meritocratic pyramid with the smartest fellow at the tip. These meritocrats first tinkered with the demography of an infant nation. The last person to do this was Hitler and we all know what happened to him. Over a generation later, the indigenous citizens which should have been born were not there, a void, to create a middle class. Now in desperation, this middle class void had to be filled by well-fed and rich foreign immigrants to the consternation of the indigenous population.
Second, following this boo-boo the meritocratic pyramid missed an important call on its financial investments when the smartest fellow missed the call. The rest of the meritocrats kept quiet. There was a huge financial loss in October 2008.

Maybe too much meritocracy does not work because they all read the same books and talk the same language.

Tun, your latest stimulus for thought and discussion ‘ Peace and Stability ‘ is timely and appropriate. And hopefully, that our fellow Malaysians are aware that we Malaysians have come a long long way even with our little idiosycrasies which actually go to form what we have to day. Thanks to the BN a unique and tested political body which will and can go places in keeping with these exciting times.

BN has a good chance to regain more seats !!!

  30. Salam Tun,

I personally see that current leadership in the coalition is still very poor and low integrity. Also not many wise people are in the team (you know from the way they talk in public). Many decisions made were under par and implementation of government plans was poorly executed. Poor leaders have become very bad examples for the people. I personally would elect leader that can become role example to people, with high integrity for the sake of the country future.

  31. Please don’t continue to live in a state of denial. The reasons why UMNO/BN is unpopular and losing votes are:

    1. Corruption involving hundreds of billion of ringgit from top to bottom.
    2. Hijacking of the NEP by elite bumiputra and cronies.
    3. Scaremongering by Perkasa and MSM like Utusan who are allowed to indulge openly in racist and religious bigotry.
    4. Subversion of PDRM, MACC, AG and Judiciary to their political masters.
    5. Cover up of major cases by those occupying the top posts in the highest offices of Government.

Change all of that and they will sweep back to power. Do nothing and UMNO/BN will soon become a mere footnote in our much doctored history books.

  35. Dear Tun,

I agree with HBT456 who says

“25. I agree with YAB, “Pakatan” cannot provide strong government.

    26. When Guan Eng agrees to disagree to Tok Nik’s Hukum Hudud via Anwar Ibrahim that could threaten our peace and stability, Guan Eng has shown us that he does not have good pragmatic leadership accepted by commoners.”

HBT, you are so matured and sensible.

    amin tan

  36. salam Tun,

I can safely conclude here that the Pakatan Rakyat have low morals, will do anything including selling their souls to the devil in order to gain power.
In short, Putrajaya at all costs!
I have no time for these greedy devious politicians. They are definitely much worse than the current government. They have proven it during their 4 years preview in 4 states.
DAP is a chinese extremist party. Make no mistake about it. They can try to bullshit or hoodwink us but ultimately the rakyat will uncover the truth. Anybody who vote for them is a chauvinist racist pig.
PAS meanwhile will gladly sell their soul to iblis laknatullah in order to gain power. They have succeeded in deceiving the rakyat with their outwardly pious ways but if we study carefully their deeds, we will find that they are exactly just the opposite.
PKR is basically full of sexual deviants and sodomisers aplenty. They even have a SiTanggang Moden as an MP. The rakyat, especially Malays have realised their past mistakes in voting them in due to their anger with the previous Pak Lah administration (yours truly included).
So now it’s payback time! The opposition do not have many issues to exploit so they are trying to create negative perceptions towards BN and UMNO in particular amongst the rakyat.
In this war of perceptions, little proof is needed. All it takes are lots of accusations, rumour mongering and lies to deceive the rakyat in order to discredit the government of the day.
Tha funny thing is when proof upon further proof of their own misadventures are revealed, they will deny outrightly dengan muka selamba macam tak bersalah. I am sick and tired of the Pakatan Rakyat’s antics and charades.
They are NOT suitable to rule the country as they are MUCH WORSE than BN as it is now. They shout corruption when they are as much in deep shit in it. Can anybody challenge me in declaring the PR run state governments are corruption free? The devious antics of the authoritarian dictotor style LGE in Penang regarding several issues are clearly showing the dark side of his rule.
In Selangor the PR government are trying to grab whatever wealth at all costs before the next GE as they have clearly failed to administer the state properly the last 4 years. Selangor citizens should know better by now.

I am not saying that the BN government is perfect but I can safely say that the Pakatan Rakyat is much worse!

    It’s payback time!

  37. Dear Tun,

May I quote your last point

“23. Malaysia had enjoyed half-a-century of peace and growth under the Barisan Nasional. No one can honestly say that he had not benefitted from Barisan Nasional rule.”

What you said from point 1 to 23 are all true. But Tun, you must remember the opposition, like Ayah Pin, promise the SKY to the voters, Kerajaan langit. If Pakatan Rakyat wins the election they would abolish all tolls, BORROWERS OF PTPTN(student loans) do not have to pay back, from cradle to university, free education. Everybody can go and study medicine in England and become doctor fully sponsored by the Pakatan Rakyat government. Pakatan Rakyat says Patronas has enough money to pay for everything. May be their strong connection with the wealthy jews in the US may enable them to borrow unlimited amount of money from America. Malaysians want to be wealthy instantly and obtain every thing free of charge, just vote Pakatan Rakyat. if they vote for PAS they will go to heaven including non muslims. PAS guarantees free passage to heaven because theirs is the islamic party endorsed by God based on the holy Quran. Whereas BN is constantly defamed and besmeared as being utterly corrupted, squandered and mismanaged the wealth of the nation. Even Tun and family have been falsely accused of stashing away usd200 millions in israeli national bank in Singapore. They are so evil minded and ambitious, there is no limit to what they can do. This is election promises, just promises, plausible or far fetch promises. Whether the promises are doable or otherwise does not matter. They just want to win the election, occupy PUTRAJAYA and grab power at any cost. People are quite gullible and easily swayed and influenced by sweet talk and rosy promises of an impossible Utopia. The opposition is made up of a bunch of desperate greedy conmen.

  38. Dear Tun Dr. Mahathir,

We are unconvinced so long as the issue of corruption and misuse of power are widespread and unaddressed.

    Regards,
    Pat.

  39. Good morning YAB,

    24. As long as the core abides to national and international standards that were laid by the forefathers since Merdeka, Malaysia shall continue to reform and transform herself economically, politically and socially.

    25. I agree with YAB, “Pakatan” cannot provide strong government.

    26. When Guan Eng agrees to disagree to Tok Nik’s Hukum Hudud via Anwar Ibrahim that could threaten our peace and stability, Guan Eng has shown us that he does not have good pragmatic leadership accepted by commoners.

    27. If YAB has built Putrajaya for syiok diri, YAB would have moved into Putrajaya.

    28. YAB decided to step down voluntarily and pass the baton to Pak Lah.

    29. Will BN gain a strong mandate to rule Malaysia when voters are more civilized and educated today?

    30. Only PM and PRU13 have the answer for that.

    Good day, YAB.

  40. Salam Sejahtera Tun.
Tun during your tenure as PM of Malaysia almost every day is good news.
Almost every day we watched the news just to catch a glimpse of you and what you say.

Today without you at the helm it seems that we had gone astray, away from that which is right;into error, confusion, undesirable action or thought.

Your ideas and guidance provide a rudder for Malaysia.Aftermath the 2008 PRU we simply lost the priceless rudder.

Tun you simply an artist of rare perception and intuitive.

We hope Malaysia can be steered back to the right path.

Terima Kasih Tun May Allah Bless You and Family

  41. Dearest YAB Tun,

CONGRATULATIONS BN! BN is a WINNER!

No one can deny the fact that BN has successfully managed and developed Malaysia to become what it is today. That’s why we have a “copycat” of BN in Malaysia.

Yang BAIK & BERJAYA, mestilah ada yang meniru…

    Thanks Tun.

*** May Allah SWT bless Tun and family ***

  42. Dearest Tun

1-I do believe that our performance under the BN is actually very commendable especially the 22 years under your abled and outstanding leadership.

2-But we cannot go on doing the same old things and hoping that people would be grateful and continue to keep voting us into power. The younger generation were born at a time we are already well off and they don’t know those hard times.

3-They have taken things for granted and it s your fault for giving them too much and now they have become very big headed. To them the past doesn’t count. For whatever the the leaders have done they have been well paid for it.Their families have become filthy rich.

4-The younger generation is not interested in the sentimental issues. To them the stories of the Bintang Tiga is equivalent to the tales of Hang Tuah and his three friends ,they make great bedtime stories.

5-All they see are the one sided reporting in the mainstream media of the Govt talking only about their great achievements in every sector and all the terrible evils of the opposition govt in every sector.

6-They are a society so webbed to all sort of information and this great govt is still treating them like they are living in the sixties or seventies. From their I-phones and their I-pads they are constantly being fed with all sorts of ‘truths’ real time.

7-Not trusting the mainstream media anymore they will take the version from the alternative lock, stock and barrel .

8-Then they do a simple comparison to see who looks closer to being a true sincere leader.

9-They see on one side one person who seem to be willing to go to hell to fight the powers that be and the corruption. They look at who are his friends..like minded principled people..Lim Kit Siang,Karpal Singh,Nik Aziz..Then they compare the other side…

10-With a one sided media regime it is easy to convince them the Govt has something to hide, that he has indeed been victimized for daring to expose the corruption.

11-Then they go one step further to see the external Islamic outlook behind the man ,his wife, his family and then they compare with the other leaders’s wife and the family.

12-Small though this matter may appear,it is always the small leaks that sink the big ships.I think.

I wish Najib all the best.

    Thanks Tun

  43. Salam Tun,

Well Tun, they say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, so maybe that’s why Pakatan has followed BN’s format. The only snag is PR is only a marriage of convenience and a sham coalition despite the Buku Jingga and all the other pronouncements by PR leaders.

The only people who think PR is a real coalition are PAS grassroots followers led on a merry path by their Tuan Guru merangkap Nabi.

That said, I hope BN has learnt its lesson well. Talking of Selangor, the arrogance of some past BN leaders is breathtaking — ‘Pembangkang Sifar di Selangor’ indeed. Selangor Umno should put their house in order — in more ways than one [wink] if they hope to win the state back. Otherwise it will be a repeat of 2008.

I don’t know if the leaders of the component parties are doing their bit behind the scenes but it seems to me that only Datuk Seri Najib is doing the work at the moment. Won’t that put a strain on the PM? Oops, I mean the PM’s wife?

  44. SALAM KASIH SAYANG
    AYAHANDA RAKYAT TUN
    Izinkan,

Generally the majority rakyat will acknowleged No. 23 but unfortunately the ‘AAB’ ( Arrogant, Aloof, Boneheaded) attitutes and the ‘ABI’ (Aggravated Behind Injuries) mentalities of the current political leaders on both sides of the fence do not augurs well in the pursuance of Wawasan 2020.. Malaysia a developed country, a truly progressive, stable and peaceful nation.

Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea…

    Que Sera Sera

    ALFATIHAH, AMIN
Ps. Looks like the song ‘Rose Mary child’ will top the chart of ‘Pakatan’ their hits during their PRU 13 concerts and ‘Barisan’ with their rendition of The Long and Winding Road.. ehmm !

    17. There is one other element that is needed for a coalition to work. Although it is an alliance of equals, it needs a strong core which can act as the first among equals. The core will act as referee whenever the other components fail to agree with each other. The core must of course be fair at all times.

The poor performance was due to extremely poor leadership. Agreed.

For PRU13? You say give Pekan a chance – agreed.
It is only the question of two third majority in Parliament and the DUN of Pulau Pinang and Kelantan. While Jerlun has to survive and chair LADA; Ahmad Said runs Terengganu; Iskandar gets halal investments; and Shahrizat must win.

It is the question of some Oil and more Gas at the core of it; is it not? Willner may have China ideas but his investments are too riba laden, one thinks.

Wonderful postings both Oil and Peace and Stability, CHEDET.

    Thank You

  46. Tun,

Why UMNO is no longer as successful in my opinion is because the people of Malaysia are now more mature.

There are still hardcore people that hold on to UMNO as they have reaped the reward by getting rich but their numbers are not many. Malay people start to see that only a handful get to be rich by doing nothing while majority get to be poor by doing nothing. You ought to know by now that getting rich by doing nothing it is not for everyone.

The opposition is opening hope for those Malays that didn’t get the pie. Well there are quite many that didn’t get the pie. That’s why we are seeing the opposition growing numbers.

The opposition will make the pie smaller but more people get to share. In UMNO the pie is only big for some “big guns” and the other are left without that much. Once in a while UMNO throws in “gula-gula” but people are start seeing that and demanded more equal sharing. Well, if its only gula-gula like BR1M RM500 then better try opposition.

No hard feelings. Just share my thoughts.

  47. Tun, I do agree with you that BN losses in some areas last election was due to poor leadership and not because the BN style of Government is not relevant anymore. As you said everyone has benefited from this Government whether they are pro opposition or pro government. What I do not understand is some senior government officers who are being entrusted to carry out government projects for the benefit of the people at large are talking bad about the government and yet enjoying the benefits and some are even pursuing PHD on government scholarships. When they graduated, they become more clever and use the knowledge and influence they acquired to poison the mind of the people to go against the government. The Government must be on the look out for these kind of characters before giving approval for them to further their studies.

  48. Salam Tun

  49. Salam Tun,

    Well said Sir!
As usual, you will see a lot of people will be writing comment against your time as the PM of Malaysia. But many of them are never appreciative of what has been given to them for the past 50 over years. They only know to complaint all the time. Never once they appreciate the hard work, effort and sacrifice made by our previous leaders of all races.

Right now, Malaysia is facing a big challenge in the coming GE. God willing the truth will prevail and the right government will win in order to continue the stability and growth of the country. But at the same time, the current government need to chop off their ‘corrupt’ MP and Minister in order to live up the ‘Rakyat Didahulukan, Pencapaian Diutamakan’. Or else Prime Minister Najib will face big battle from Oppositions led by Anwar Ibrahim.

    Thank you Tun
