THE MALAYSIAN CONSTITUTION

1. The Malaysian Constitution can be amended or changed if two thirds of the members of Parliament agree to the proposal.

2. The Constitution was drafted with guarantees for the rights of the indigenous Malays (and later Bumiputera of Sabah and Sarawak) as well as the rights of the other races.

3. The founding fathers were at pains to stress that the country was founded and belong to the Malays. The acceptance of non-Malay migrants as citizens was conditional upon their acceptance of the provision of the Constitution.

4. Although amendments can be made to the Constitution there are certain entrenched provisions which cannot be changed.

5. It is important that all Malaysian citizens remember this.
