THE TRANS PACIFIC PARTNERSHIP

An edited version of this article appeared in the New Straits Times of July 12, 2013

1. The secretary to the Ministry of Trade and Industry avers that trade negations must be done in secret, I suppose by the officers concerned. There should apparently be no public debate or even within the Government.

2. I don’t think it is such a good practice, if indeed that is the practice. Let us see the record of trade and other agreements negotiated by the Malaysian Government. They do not seem to favour Malaysia much. In fact they seem to result in Malaysia accepting unfavourable terms.

3. Firstly let us look at the water agreement with Singapore. Malaysia agreed to sell raw water at 3 cents per 1000 gallons. In return Malaysia can buy 12 per cent or less of the treated water for 50 cents. If the rates are to be revised both countries must agree.

4. If Malaysia raises the rate to 6 cent per 1000 gallons (i.e. 100 per cent) then Singapore can raise by the same factor to 1 dollar per 1000 gallons of treated water. This is not going to benefit Malaysia. And so we never tried to renegotiate the prices.

5. The first agreement lapsed in 2011 and we did not renegotiate at all. The next agreement will lapse in 2060. So we will be getting 3 cents per 1000 gallons of raw water when the cost of living has probably gone up many-many times.

6. To avoid Singapore revising the price of water if we raise the price of raw water, Johor was given enough money to build its own treatment plant. Not having to depend on supply from Singapore, we could raise the price of raw water without Singapore raising the price of treated water.

7. I am told that Johor still needs to buy treated water from Singapore. I really do not know why. So the price has not been renegotiated and I suppose will not be renegotiated until 2060.

8. Today the Singapore Dollar is 2 ½ times the value of the Malaysian Ringgit. At the time of the agreement it was one to one. Are we receiving payment in Singapore Dollar or Malaysian Ringgit? Or is this a secret also?

9. Frankly I don’t think we thought very carefully when we negotiated. Incidentally Johor sells water at 30 cent per 1000 gallons to Melaka, i.e. 1000 per cent higher than for Singapore.

10. Then there is the purchase of the F/A-18 fighter aircraft. Actually the Government wanted the MIG-29. Somehow part of the fund was used to purchase the F/A-18. I suppose the people who made this decision know why they must have the F/A-18.

11. Unfortunately the agreement to purchase did not include the source code. Without the source code the F/A-18 can only fly on missions approved by the United States. Until then these very expensive fighter planes can only be used for show at LIMA. Very expensive toys.

12. Then there is the AFTA, the Asean Free Trade Area. We agreed that cars with 40 per cent local contents qualify as national and tax-free entry into ASEAN markets. Forty per cent local contents are easily achieved by cars from outside ASEAN. This means the Japanese, Korean, Chinese and European cars can get ASEAN countries’ national status merely by being assembled in ASEAN countries together with batteries, tyres and a few other components.

13. We produce the Proton in Malaysia with 90% local contents. Naturally our costs are higher and cannot compete with non-ASEAN cars assembled in ASEAN countries. While these cars flood the Malaysian market, hardly any Proton is seen in ASEAN countries.

14. The negotiators may think they negotiated a good deal but I just don’t think so. We are simply opening our markets to countries with closed markets.

15. But to make matters worse, while Proton must comply with Malaysian safety and other standards, the imported cars are given exemptions from most of these. If Proton wishes to export to the countries of the manufacturers, it must comply with all their standards. So far we cannot export to Japan, Korea and the European countries. This is how good the agreements we have entered into.

16. We lost Pulau Batu Puteh but we cannot build the bridge or remove the causeway, or settle the provident fund issue. But we have given up our railway land worth billions to Singapore for practically nothing. And now we must ask Singapore’s permission to build our high speed train.

17. Look at all the agreements we have entered into and you will find practically none of them favours us.

18. Now we want to swallow the American conceived TPP, Trans Pacific Partnership. This is another attempt by America to let their huge corporations penetrate the domestic markets of the small countries, in particular Government procurements.

19. When the GATT (General Agreement on Trade and Tariff) failed they invented WTO (World Trade Organisation) for the same purpose. That also failed. They then invented APEC. Still they cannot achieve their objective. They introduced bilateral free trade agreements. Then they promoted a Globalised World, a world without borders in which their money can go anywhere, destroy economies and then pull out. In case we have forgotten they did this in 1997 – 8.

20. Still they cannot get at Government procurement. And now they invented TPP, a partnership of unequal, of the strong to take advantage of the weak.

21. This is going to be legally binding. If we breach the agreement, their corporations can sue the Government for billions. I have my doubts about our ability to convince the international arbitrators or courts. We cannot even convince the World Court over Pulau Batu Puteh.

22. They will have the best lawyers, lots of them. We will exhaust all our funds to pay our less experienced lawyers. At the end we will lose and pay indemnities and fees running into billions. And we will continue to pay until we comply. And when we comply we will lose more money.

23. We have a domestic problem and we have to solve this problem. They don’t care. Anyone who talks about the New Economic Policy (NEP) is labelled racist by our officials. When the currency rogues attacked us the purpose was to gain control over our economy. We resisted that because we were still free then. But after we sign the TPP we will be bound hand and foot. No more capital control. We will be colonised again. President Sukarno was right about neo-colonialism.

24. I know MITI is already set to agree to the TPP. It will not entertain any counter arguments. It wants to do this secretly. We don’t punish people who make agreements detrimental to the interest of this country. So what is there to lose.

25. This is my country as much as it is the country of the officials and politicians. If people secretly do harm to my country I have a right to complain.

26. We talk a lot about transparency. Let us see transparency regarding the TPP negotiation. The October 2013 ultimatum should be ignored. And let China also be included.

For O’Imbalance. You know nothing about me and yet you dare to make generalised criticisms on me base on your emotions. Stick to facts please like a true gentleman/lady. I have ALWAYS KEPT TO FACTS otherwise Tun would not have permitted me to comment at all. Please do not try to bully someone whom you know nothing about. THIS IS A DANGEROUS GAME BY PICKING ON ME. I have never done a thing like what you did to me O’Imbalance. Talking just to shoot down at people when you yourself have nothing substantive to talk about. THIS IS A BAD HABIT. A VERY BAD HABIT.

  2. AGREED WITH BALANCE

If we truly understand the meaning of the above sentence then we should not be so judgmental and opinionated about the right and wrong or best and worst.
Any bad or non-beneficial agreement for Malaysia will die-off naturally and if we look at thing from multiple angle we can always see something good even at the worst time. If we make mistake and just sit and complain then we will surely fail but if we make mistake and work hard to correct those mistake then we become wiser.

We are too quick to use the “blame game” as it is the fastest way out for any hiccups and problems. The Johor/Singapore water agreement was signed many many years ago and at that time Johor is not like the Johor now and there are many reasons for the agreement. We cannot use current Johor or Malaysia situation to compare. Today Malaysia is smarter and wiser because of those hiccups and if look at a positive way then we should be thankful for the lesson.

We should not be using too much of “I told you so” sentences as it will not bring growth and innovation. We should be using more”lets work on it again” to improve and stabilise things. That is why Malaysian football team is so terrible because we never understand team-work philosophy but only blame and more blame. We are better-off at individual sports like badminton and squash because that is how we learn to work.

Instead of just highlighting other people mistakes why get yourself involved via many type of channels available to correct the problems.

  4. Assalamualaikum Tun,

    1. I would like to thank Tokpa for reading Tun’s blog. The new government lineup is wise enough to listen to Tun’s concern on the issue.

    2. Within the TPPA, we should also be concern of the different interpretation of intellectual property of Malaysia and the US. For example, the inclusion of variety of plants and animals of US IP descriptions and the exclusion of those in Malaysia.

The differences allow our F&B businesses, plantations, and orchards here thriving. If we are to abide with the US IP laws, there might be less tongkat ali commercialisation, durian stalls of many kinds, and maybe ayam kampung being sold out there. Surely it will effect the SME businesses here.

    3. Patent trolls are another big threat that we should be aware of. As we are young in the IP businesses, our innovations are prone to be swallowed by the IP trolls of the US. This is already a big issue in the US, where there are companies which have been ridiculously sued by these patent trolls. No, we don’t wan’t these for our young creative and IP industry.

    4. I am sure that both of the parties want a win-win situation. The US is a big ally if we can get a win-win situation build up. In the mean time, China (a great Malaysian business ally) should not be sidelined in making TPPA decisions.

    Have a blessing ramadhan Tun.

    Best regards,
    fbm

  6. 45. Thats why they are now entering the next new political landscape of trial and error with a strong opponent in the federal parliament for domestic issues.

    46. Kedua-dua parti makan gaji duit rakyat, hence, they must do it, or leave, to maintain their political position to continue to serve the rakyat.

    47. The reality now is bn proposed, pr disposed.

    48. Is bn prepared for this new era whereby in the past they only do what they like via 2/3 majority?

With all due respect, my list of assets lost by our beloved Malaysia in peacetime and not at War is not quite complete without :-

    1. 1971 – All the software, assets except the planes of the Malaysia-Singapore Airlines were given to SIA ex-gratis which raised the ire of Tun Dr Ismail who nearly sacked the 3 wise men.

    2. 2010 – The KTM Agreement with Singapore hopefully regarded the 25 miles of steel rails as rightfully belonged to KTM.

Whatever happened after October 2008, MAN PROPOSED, GOD DISPOSED !

  8. Tun

My head seems to be in a whirl. When I totted up what our beloved Malaysia has lost in terms of her assets without embarking on a War. The following list is not comprehensive and derived from what is known as reported in the media. All things being equal, it seems our beloved Malaysia is once again going to wrap herself up in an all embracing Free Trade Agreement of unknown quality in view of the hush-hush surrounding the negotiations.

    1. 1962 – The Water Agreement with Singapore.
    2. 1980 – The alleged Palm Oil Tariff with India.
    3. 2001 – The alleged Saddam Hussein UN Sanctions
    4. 2004 – The alleged sale and repurchase of TNB shares.
    5. 2005 – The alleged arrangement of 2 blocks for oil exploration
    6. 2006 – A PAP cadre became the Chief Editor of UMNO owned New Straits Times and a luscious Sime Darby contract put on his lap to make him feel comfortable in the ulus.
    7. 2008 – Whilst on the one hand, our beloved Malaysia lost Pulau Batu Puteh at our own will be going to the International Court of Justice, on the other, we bought the hot chestnut the Bank International Indonesia from Temasek and Kookmin. It is now alleged the Maybank will face huge losses on a forced sale issue.
Taking cognizance of our record in international negotiations, and the looming shadow of the TPP casts a baleful eye on our record of losing valuable assets without a War, it maybe wise to take a cautious step as regards this wonderful free trade agreement in view of the fact that Thailand, Indonesia and China are missing on the list of the signatories which make up 1.4 Billions souls of Humankind as compared to approximately only 300 Million souls on the ‘yes’ list.

  9. Assalamualaikum Tun.

Kecuali arwah ayah saya kerja goverment sahaja.

Sekarang pun kat bandar saya, jalan utama ditukar laluan masa bulan Ramadhan dan masa orang sibuk membeli-belah.

Apa ke bongok. Macam mana decision making dibuat pun tak tahulah.

    Terima kasih Tun.

  10. Dear Tun,

The TPP will be policies decided out of Washington. It is directed towards China. Engagement of Asia minus China. The result of America’s Asia Pivot.

  11. Salam Tun,

you have spoken your mind. Now its time for UMNO politicians and members to digest the hidden meaning contained in your message. Wonder why even Utusan not interested to debate the issue?

But apparently, they are like what being described by the US native Navajo proverb, “When we are pretending to be asleep, no one can awaken us.”

The Malays and Navajo Indians have many traits in common.

  12. Assallammualaikumwarahmatullahiwabarokatuh..
    Semoga Tun sudi mengizinkan ruangan..
“Adakah pegawai-pegawai tentera kita cuma berani bersuara mengenai kemampuan aset ketenteraan kita apabila mereka sudah bersara atau menyertai parti politik pembangkang?”
    Saudara Sentinel 3.
Saya yakin kemampuan anda melebihi ‘intelligence’ orang awam.
‘In a non martial situation, a spoof can be viewed as an outlet of expression legally accepted worldwide minus the contemplation of moral which is debated of intrisic values, faith and belief leaning towards proclivity and tendency.
Logik biasa atau logik Amerika menyatakan untuk menang perang ‘we must pound them to the stone age’ maksudnya belasah dengan segala penuh kekuatan.
Mari kita hayati peringatan Saidina Umar r.a.
“Aku tidak takutkan mereka ( kekuatan tentera musuh ).Aku takutkan dosa yang kamu lakukan di dalam medan pertempuran”..
Seingat saya tentera-tentera di bawah kepimpinan Saidina Umar r.a tidak pernah tewas..:)
    Jawapan kepada persoalan tadi?..
Macam kata strategis Perang Dunia ke 2..
Upon the loss of thousand of thousand..
We have salvaged many thousand’s more..
Those ‘officer’s’ have betrayed a few..
But they have salvaged many thousand’s more…

    Terima kasih Tun..:)

  14. Tun

Today, I read about an assurance by a member of Dewan Rakyat that everything is OK about the TPP and our national interest. THIS MAKES ME MORE SUSPICIOUS WHY THE TTP WAS NOT PUBLISHED IN ALL THE MALAYSIAN MEDIA. Our beloved Malaysian has already been cheated so many times and our hapless grandmothers sold down the river so many times.
IF IT IS ALRIGHT IN THE NATIONAL INTEREST AS SAID BY THE MP, PLEASE WITH DUE RESPECT LET US ALL READ WHAT IS REALLY IN THE TPP IN BLACK AND WHITE ? This is Malaysia today 2013.

  15. Dearest YAB Tun and fellow bloggers,
    1. Wishing Tun a belated Happy Birthday…may Allah gives you everything you doa and
    asked for.

I like this one from HAJAR – good thinking..
    3. Actually, we just need to see what the Opposition leaders’ reaction/feedback on TPP. If they do NOT hold any demonstrations against it, then it is safe to conclude that it is NOT good for Malaysia.

We know very well how the opposition is not happy with Malaysia…always on the opposing side even though for the rightful matters. My conclusion is, they are a pack of animals that are being trained to attack anything from BN. When they glorified the criminals, attacked all good laws (ISA, EO), running down Malaysia to the world, then what can we say good things about them? They are just garbage. Some people looked up at rafizi, a whistle-blower they said…but how come all the nonsense from his leaders in opposition are being concealed? another garbage guy.

    OK, about this TPP…

    Few years ago I had attended a seminar about globalization and a few Malaysian delegates to WTO, etc were there to share their experiences. Some of the shocking revelations;

    1. Malaysian delegates were a few (I heard around 20 or so) as compared to the American delegates who came with more than a hundred participants made up of professors, CEOs, administrators, biz people, etc. they came to kill…well prepared.

    2. On the last day of the conference, suddenly the secretariat announced that there will be an emergency meeting, important one. so, our Malaysian delegates who had made flight reservations could not cancel and thus went back without attending the emergency meeting. IN THE EMERGENCY MEETING THE US DOMINATED AND MADE CHANGES TO AGREED RESOLUTIONS – CAN YOU IMAGINED THAT?

Even though in KK, in our country, item 2 above may not happen, but what I am trying to show is that these greedy Americans will find ways to bully and manipulate us…that’s why
    Tun is so concerned.

  16. Salam YAB & diKasihi Tun,

‘Orang tamak selalu rugi…”

    Terima kasih Tun.

*** Semoga Allah SWT melindungi Tun sekeluarga. ***

  17. Tun

Before we could say willy-nilly on the proposed TPP, a retired senior General of the American Chief of Staff has proposed that it is better for the United States to engage China strategically for mutual benefit rather than follow a policy of containment of China. As the United States is a country which grew powerful through wars since 1774, and faced with possible defeats in her war adventures in Asia at great cost to the Asians, a policy of strategic engagement rather than strategic containment will not only be wise but of great benefit not only to the United States and China and the rest of Asia and the World as well.

IS THE TPP GOING TO TURN OUT TO BE A NON-STARTER ?

  18. Assalamualaikum dan Selamat Mejalankan ibadah puasa Tun,

With regard to the Alvivi’s case of wishing Muslims while eating Bakuteh (pork) is really an insult to Muslims. Alvivi and his girlfriend is being charged in a court of law. They were charged in a court of law and ordered to be jailed. Suddenly some people say it was unjustly for the BN government to jailed them even though that have hurt so many Muslims feelings, and to do it in the fasting month of Ramadhan some more.

I really don’t understand. Do BN really have power over the courts? There have been cases where the judgments were made against BN leaders. It was the judge that put them in jail.

The judge must have jailed with accordance with the prevailing law. I’m sure the judge saw this as a very serious offense which could cause racial riots if left unchecked and serve as warning to other would be offenders. The defendant can always appeal if they feel they have been unjustly jailed as the law also provides that.

If anything, it was the judge that made the judgement in accordance with existing laws so stop blaming the BN government which have nothing to do with them getting jailed.

  19. Tun

On the TPP, if we recall there were two substantive issues which were to the disadvantage of Malaysia right up to 2003, the 1962 Water Agreement with Singapore and the alleged Palm Oil Tariff Agreement with India in the early 1980s. OK. We all accepted these as oversights and would avoid such pitfalls from then on. But before we could say willy-nilly, after 2003, our beloved Malaysia lost more territories and assets than she would have done in a war. And we lost most of these hereditary assets to of all places, a one-street town Singapore which even published a book to tell us how smart and clever they were. These issues happened before October 2008, before Singapore imploded. Vide. http://www.tremeritus.com/2013/07/13/ng-kok-lim-rebuts-sg-embassy-singapore-is-authoritarian. and http://www.tremeritus.com/Moody downgrades 3 Singapore banks, DBS, OCBC and UOB to NEGATIVE. Man proposes. God disposes.
Unless our beloved Malaysia did not build up the solid Malay middle income group with the expanded non-Malay middle income group through you Tun and your predecessors, then we deserve to be short-changed in the international arena. But it was to the contrary that you Tun and your predecessors have not only built-up the indigenous people base for peace, stability and harmony but had the fore-sight that these citizens not only grow from strength to strength but are well provided for as well.
Hence, those officials in charge and in practice, there should be only one, the Boss, do fine comb the controversial TPP which seems benign enough before it grows its fangs . But the glaring anomaly is why have another Trade Agreement on top of other Trade Agreements ? As one commentator rightly put it,’ Is this TPP meant to conquer us through trade ?’ To underline all these, please look at the headline of my favourite Singaporean Seah Chiang Nee in the Star today, ‘Worrying trend for rising suicides.’ Singapore is now the least democratic nation out of 81 nations as listed on the Democratic Index of the World. Early in the year, the Gallup poll found the Singaporeans the least happy in the World and a month earlier, the least emotional. This is the pigeon coming home to roost arising Lee Kuan Yew’s firm belief that building GDP must take precedence above all else. Money. Money. Money.
We must ask ourselves what is this TPP within the context of a nation within a family of nations and within the parameters of our SOVEREIGNTY, NATIONAL INTEREST, SELF-ESTEEM. So many of our hapless grandmothers were sold downstream after 2003.
How many Malays, the Bumiputras, the Chinese, the Indians and all realise today your efforts, Tun and your predecessors in building up the political and socio-economic resilience of our beloved Malaysia not only in the much expanded middle income Malay and non-Malay group but other institutions as well up to 2003. We have the stark facts of life and your achievements, Tun together with your predecessors eg.

The Singapore Government White Paper on Population 2013 states that when Lee Kuan Yew took over power, the indigenous population was 100%. By 2013, it was 62% and will drop down to 45% by 2030. A Government which deliberately reduced its own population by Policy.
Malaysia’s indigenous population remained a constant 100% from 1957 to 2013. This resulted in a resilient and viable nation which is a runaway success in human terms as compared with Singapore, a hollowed out failed State. And the rate of suicides ? This will increase amongst the indigenous population of Singapore, year by year, and will join South Korea and Japan soon.
Therefore, it pays for those officials and their superior to be aware of not only of the strengths but also the weaknesses of other who seem superior and is actually not so. It pays from our past experience that we must be beware of Greeks bearing gifts (a latter day political party is already mishcievous beyond belief) and a FIRM VIEW OF WHAT THIS MOTHER OF ALL TRADE TREATIES, THE TPP, MIGHT BRING IN THE FUTURE. Happiness or sadness with regret ?

In my previous comments, I have said that our beloved Malaysia is a runaway success in human terms and Singapore a failure. This statement has now been independently confirmed. But actually I meant more than those few words. BE SATISFIED WITH WHAT WE HAVE AND WORK HARDER TO BUILD A MORE SUSTAINABLE AND DYNAMIC NATION WITH THE BN AS LED BY THE UMNO WITH THE 13 COMPONENTS ! In reality, this should be our finest choice to the chagrin of jealous rivals who want to do us down by making us fight amonst ourselves through proxies and money.

  22. Tun,

    Izinkan saya menjawap wajaperak.

Sdra wajaperak, Terima kasih atas jaminan saudara mengenai kemampuan tentera kita menghadapi tentera Singapura.

    Salam Tun.

  23. Dr M, my friend and I always think about an issue that is quite hard to be answered,”Day by day, people are getting richer but why is the term poverty still manage to exist?”. So, how I wish you can spend some of your time to write an article about this and of course your reply is highly appreciated. Thank you, for reading my comment.

  24. Tun

With your permission, I dedicate all my comments on this distinguished Blog to my great Malay friends who are no longer with us, to the great ones who are still present, to those who are yet to come. And for those Malay friends who still doubt the UMNO, please read http://www.tremeritus.com/2013/07/13/ng-kok-lim-rebuts-sg-embassy-singapore-is-authoritarian. Nearly al the facts are here except corruption. And http://www.tremeritus.com/Moody downgrades 3 Singapore banks, DBS, OCBC and UOB to NEGATIVE. 25. Salam Tun,

    happy belated birthday ! 10th July 1925

Just want to share with you, according to Numerology :

Mahathir, your overpowering need is to be independent and to direct your own life according to what you believe. Your dream is to become the leader of whatever field you enter. Whether it is in business, community, or in your general area of expertise, you are driven to be the reigning figure.

You have the courage and the confidence to lead others. You believe firmly that your judgment is preeminent over all others. This gives you the confidence to make bold decisions and carry them out, even when other lives are greatly affected by what you do. You rarely look back once you have made a decision.

You possess intelligence and wit. You are keenly insightful and are good at evaluating the abilities of others.

You are supremely individualistic. In your manner and dress, you like to project your own unique persona.

Consequently, you don’t mind being controversial, and can even enjoy the attention and impact you have made on your surroundings.

Mahathir, you dislike routines, or anything that limits your freedom and independence. Whenever you commit to something you truly love, you are absolutely tenacious in your ability to endure difficulties and overcome obstacles.

You are highly responsible; you hate passing the buck. You possess remarkable willpower and a strong drive to succeed. You are always looking for innovative ways of doing things.

Because you seek to be the boss in any endeavor, you have a tendency to dominate others. If you are not careful, especially in dealing with your subordinates and family, you may become … ( you can read the full report @ http://www.numerology2u.webs.com )

Considering the semblance, the 77-page report will make an interesting read while ‘lepak’ before Iftar.

  26. Tun

I pray day and night to Allah for you to make a comeback and clean up our Government for the good sake our beloved country.
….and I think, I’m not the only one..

  27. Tun

I have avoided to mention my views on the Malays and the UMNO as long as the issue of the recalcitrant Chinese, the Malaysian Chinese, is not resolved in the past. But then, as you rightly pointed out previously, a week is a long time in Malaysian politics. And suddenly, we all saw the light.

To put it simply, my personal view is that the Malays have made tremendous strides in their march of success right up to 2003. They should always endear themselves to their leaders beginning with the Tunku right up to our Prime Minister Dato Seri Najib bin Tun Abdul Razak because icons of the Yang Di Pertuan Agong and the Royal Sultans are what make a nation great especially our beloved Malaysia. People, important people, icons make history in the World, not rich men who have all been forgotten. Since Malaysia’s history is Malay and Islam based, these should be at the fore-front of any endeavour as embodied in our nation’s Constitution which has formed the route map for our advancement in all fields. In recent years, basic guides to rule effectively were unfortunately overlooked and eager eyed intruders stepped in to add to the conundrum. But as long as the Malays support the existing system with its checks and balances through UMNO which is the rallying point or base, 100% all will be well for them and the rest of the population. Other parties have promised many materialistic things but ONLY UMNO HAS DELIVERED ON ITS PROMISES, NOT FOR JUST ONE YEAR BUT FOR 56 LONG YEARS. Strange to say and a strange observation too. THE BRILLIANT LEE KUAN YEW WITH HIS 9 FAILED POLICIES FOR SINGAPORE WORKED WITHIN THE SAME TIME FRAME TOO. On the one hand, a group of people, the Malays, became successful without fanfare in the face of unsolicited remarks and on the other, a self-serving source failed in attempts to be the NUMBER ONE failed MISERABLY.

    MAN PROPOSES. GOD DISPOSES.

  28. Tun

If I remember correctly, it was you who stated that a week is a long time in Malaysian politics. And so it is, Tun, with the revelations by the Singaporean http://www.tremeritus.com/2013/07/13/ng-kok-lim-sg-embassy-singapore-is-authoritarian and http://www.tremeritus.com. Moody downgrades 3 Singapore banks DBS, OCBC and UOB to NEGATIVE. What goes round, comes around. And this is particularly applicable to the Chinese, the Malaysian Chinese.

The Malaysian Chinese are all up a greasy pole created by the MCA, the Singaporean Trojan Horse DAP and the brilliant Lee Kuan Yew with his 9 failed Policies (these are now proven) for Singapore, with the UMNO tiger below. A classical case of people who are too clever by far and now the best treated Chinese in the World have ended up disenfranchised without a major representation in the BN Government Cabinet which they had since 1957 and on the Government side of the Dewan Rakyat benches. The Chinese were thoroughly brain-washed by the Chinese media, the reluctance of the MCA leadership to pin point the King in Singaporre and the DAP who had being doing magic shows with thick smoke and opaque mirrors since 1966. It is time that the majority of the Chinese re-affirm their absolute loyalty to the Yang Di Pertuan Agong and come down hard on those who do not.
However, the political mess which the Chinese have created for themselves at the instigation of icons with feet of clay, maybe resolved in a REALPOLITIK MANNER – the MCA merge with the DAP for the reason that the brilliant Lee Kuan Yew with his 9 failed Policies for Singapore has imploded in his ‘tail wag the dog strategy’ meaning that Singapore controls a conquered Malaysia through the machinations of the DAP and join the BN as led by the UMNO with the 13 component parties to obviate the accusation that these two gangs are CHAUVINISTIC. And our beloved Malaysia can then fast trek to 2020 to the chagrin of her jealous pundits. And the DAP senior leadership may proceed to the United Nations, New York to represent the country like the following distinguished Malaysians, Tan Sri Ramani, Tan Sri Abdullah Ahmad, and so on with a dual role in the Government as well.
With a beautiful hindsight, we can discern that the brilliant Lee Kuan Yew with his 9 failed Policies for Singapore was so focussed and obsessed with the internal affairs of his neighbours that he forgot the common cliche, ‘CHARITY BEGINS AT HOME’ and now he pays dearly for this oversight. He forgot to ‘follow up’ on the success or failures of his Policies which should have been carefully weighed through the options. But then as always, his closest aides are so well paid that they can only say ‘yes’ and cannot say ‘no’ and produced beautiful crafted ‘yes’ papers for the Boss. This oversight cost is beyond imagination.
THE MCA AND THE DAP JUST CANNOT ALLOW MATTERS TO DRAG ON AND ON AS THOUGH TOMORROW IS FOREVER. If they are politicians they know what to do. AND IF THEY ARE PLAYBOYS OR GIRLS THEY ALSO KNOW WHAT TO DO.

BY ANY TOKEN, THE MCA, THE SINGAPOREAN TROJAN HORSE DAP AND THE BRILLIANT LEE KUAN YEW WITH HIS 9 FAILED POLICIES FOR SINGAPORE ARE ENTIRELY RESPONSIBLE TO SAFEGUARD THE SAFETY AND THE LIVELIHOOD OF THE CHINESE, THE MALAYSIAN CHINESE. This they cannot shift the onus to others. Their words and actions are already engraved in stone in the annals of our beloved country’s history.

  29. Assallammualaikumwarahmatullahiwabarokatuh..
    Semoga Tun mengizinkan ruangan.

Jika anda berlari menyusuri air laut di tepi pantai pasti pergerakan anda akan terbatas..Cannot blend like the wind..hampered in the fluidity of the movement.
    Bagaimana dengan artileri,naval and airwarfare?..

Life is all about need to know basis.
Worry not when your need is not needed to know!..

    Terima kasih Tun:)

  30. 44. In a democratic country with parliamentary system, the more umno forces us to perceive issues in their extreme and fanatic mindset, umno is inviting bn component parties not to dedicate their loyalty blindly to umno bcos they will loose their political power based on hard core race based votes as 5 prinsip rukun negara.

As Malaysian, I wish selamat berpuasa, Tun.

  31. 43. She is right, UMNO will be a history in pru 14 wherey voters like AlvivI’s case I dragged into court whereby he is charged by umno and pdrm kdn, but politician like Ibrahim is free anything keranamu putrajaya….

  32. Assalamualaikum dan Selamat Menjalankan ibadah puasa Tun,

There is a saying which says “Beware of Greeks bearing gifts”. It means don’t trust your enemies.

This saying came from the classical tale of the Trojan War between the Greeks and the Trojans. The tale said how the Greeks tricked the Trojans into thinking the Trojans have won the war and gave a gift in the form of a wooden Trojan horse. The Trojans was overjoyed with the gift and thinking they have won the war brought the Trojan horse inside their fortress and celebrated all night long. When all the Trojans fell asleep, inside the Trojan horse was actually Greek soldiers and sneaked out and opened the gate fortress. And so the Greek army which was waiting outside went in since the gate have been opened and massacred the people of Troy and won the war.

I’m sure you know about this story but the reason why I choose the retell the tale is so that we could learn from history and not repeat the mistakes of the past.

The TPP could be a trojan horse. Many experts are saying so many rosy things about the TPP. They are saying how it will allow us to get cheaper imported goods, help us achieve higher income status, etc, etc.

However good it looks like, we always be wary as this TPP is a US product. The big question is if the US is truly sincere to help the asian countries, why now? Why not during the 1997 financial crisis or in 1957 when Malaysia achieved its independence?

We must remember Mr. Obama speech when he first talked about the TPP which is it will provide jobs for Americans. Not Asian jobs but American jobs. Clearly the intention was not about a win win situation. It is about American wins and everyone else follows situation.

And then there is the matter of China. China, being the next superpower, why is it being excluded? If this TPP is to benefit asians, surely China should be included as well. Why is China being excluded?

No matter how rosy or good the product looks like, we must not act rashly and jumped at it. It could be a trojan horse. If it is indeed a trojan horse, then the asian countries would pay dearly for it.

When we talk about free trade, about reducing trade barriers, it all boils down to competition. Sure with TPP, trade barriers will be zero, which will allow Malaysian companies to do business in the US. But are our Malaysian companies competitive enough to penetrate the US Market? Can our Malaysian companies compete against the likes of GM Motors, GE, Ford, Apple to name a few.

On the other hand, the US companies can easily penetrate Malaysian economy since they have superior technology, more capital resources, etc. Since they have higher capital, they can even sell lower prices to take out the Malaysian companies.

Sure, in the short term, Malaysians would benefit getting cheaper import goods. The US would able to increase their jobs since more Malaysians are buying their goods. Seems like a win win situation.

But what happens if Malaysia is over reliant on imported goods? If our imports are more than our export we would be in a trade deficit. This means we are paying (imports) more than we earn (exports). In the long run, we would have a huge trade deficit. Having a trade deficit is one of the signs how the Euro crisis started.

The TPP product was designed for the US to penetrate into asian markets and flood them with US products since there will be no more trade bariers. China was excluded as China would have the power to say no to this. All other asian countries would be forced to lower their barriers as they are no match for the US.

In summary, if Asian countries are not careful about the TPP, which could be a trojan horse, their economy will be controlled by the US. Once a country’s economy is controlled by the US, the country will lose its independence.

p/s: On another note, I would like to add how the US always talk about freedom and about human rights and about the need to respect for the rule of law and due process. They were quick to condemn Malaysian Internal Security Act was barbaric as it detains a person without any trial. Now, Mr. Morsi of Egypt is being detained without any trial for the last three weeks, without any charges and the US is quite about it. The US even broke their own law when they continue to provide aid to Egypt even though it was a military coup. It goes to show, all that talk about freedom, human rights, respect for rule of law is just a front or excuse to advance and protect their own interests. The US are hypocrites of the highest order.

  33. Tun,

Tun sendiri pernah berkata, “Orang Melayu mudah lupa”.

    Salam Tun.

  34. Salam Tun,

Hope you and family are in great health….

I’m appealing to you to do something with the current national situations which is getting from bad to worst. The TPPA, The selection of cabinet members, The appointment of certain figures in the giant “people’s companies” such as TH, KZNH etc.., The education system and so many more…

We do not want those actions to affect us and our grandchildren badly. With all these moves from the current administrator, I’m quite sure that PRU14 will be a disaster.

Please, please and please Tun, we all need your support on this.

    Thank you

  35. Assalamualaikum Tun.

    Terima kasih Tun.

  36. Tun

We were mocked by the Singaporean Trojan Horse DAP’s PAP mischievous slogan, ‘Malaysia for Malaysians’ for 47 long years since 1966. Let the brilliant Lee Kuan Yew with his 9 failed Policies for Singapore, go and shout now ‘ SINGAPORE FOR SINGAPOREANS ‘ at Hong Lim Green and see what the Singaporeans will do to him. Vide http://www.tremeritus.com and its pure Singaporean comments.

  37. Tun

As you have been saying all these years the truth and nothing but the truth ( and some ungrateful pundits have berated you unjustifiably that you together with your predecessors have guided our beloved Malaysia as a runaway success as compared with Singapore, a runaway failure. I would have kept quiet if there were no determined attempts to do you down by external and internal forces operating in tandem.
We see the duplicity and the hypocrisy of the Singaporean Trojan Horse DAP now that we are aware of the sad affairs of their SPIRITUAL HOMELAND AT THE END OF THE DAY as confirmed by SINGAPORE’S VERY OWN http://www.tremeritus.com. The sort of sad affairs which you Tun and us do not relish. On the one hand, the mischievous PAP slogan ‘Malaysia for Malaysians’ parachuted into the Malaysian political firmament since 1964. Maybe in view of all the conundrums arising from inside Singapore against the ruling clique, the slogan ‘Singapore for Singaporeans’ WILL NOW TO BE FOUND TO BE ENTIRELY UNACCEPTABLE. As it is said, ‘what goes round comes around’ like the Kondratieff Wave which hit Singapore in 2008. The spiritual clone of Singapore, the DAP seeks to unhinge our Laws which have been in place since 1948 when these were promulgated at the same time as Singapore. AND MALAYSIA IS A COUNTRY WITH STRETCHES FOR 1,200 MILES FROM EAST TO WEST, leaving all the citizens exposed to the whims and fancies of ambitious politicians. YET THE DAP’S SPIRITUAL HOME, SINGAPORE, KEEPS ALL ITS LAWS WHICH ARE LITERALLY THE SAME AS MALAYSIA’S INTACT- and it is a one street town. Why should the BN Government listen to such nonsense at the expense of the Rakyat to the Singaporean Trojan Horse DAP which lost the 13th General Elections ? Maybe it is time we return to normalcy and look after the wider and general interests of the Rakyat instead of the narrow and foreign inspired interests of the losers.
Now that it is proven by Singapore’s very own http://www.tremeritus.com that Singapore is the last in terms of democractic practice in a group of 81 nations, where is the moral right and propriety of the DAP to stand on ? The DAP is even taking a holier than thou attitude towards the BN as led by the UMNO with the 13 component parties for the simple reason that they did nothing for the Malays, the Chinese, the Indians and all for 47 long years and only contemplated their navels. How to go wrong like this by doing nothing ? And now their spiritual leader the brilliant Lee Kuan Yew with his 9 failed Policies for Singapore is being shown by the comments in Singapore’s very own http://www.tremeritus.com to have feet of clay, we can only surmise the final conclusion affecting the DAP (PAP) which is led by watered down clones embedded in our beloved Malaysia via Singapore. It is only a matter of time before the whole contrived satrap goes up in flames !
And the 90% Chinese, the Malaysian Chinese, who supported the Singaporean Trojan Horse DAP ? They have only themselves to blame by being too clever and smart by far. Their political conundrum today in the Malaysian political firmament is due to their poor politcal leadership as engendered by the MCA and the DAP. The former leadership was blind-sided by money and the latter, being a foreign Trojan Horse, has its job cut-out for them by their foreign master. As a result, both parties have been led by unqualified, uneducated and inexperienced leaders in public affairs and all these began as early as 1949.
The Chinese, the Malaysian Chinese, have got themselves up a pole with the UMNO tiger below. Thanks to their self-serving newspapers which are managed by self-serving employees who will promote themselves at the drop of a hat using their employers time and money. As the buck stops at the President’s desk to quote Harry S Truman, it may only be assumed that the Owners are also in this dangerous game of life and death. However, the manipulation is done from afar.
As no exit strategy seems to be provided by both the MCA and the DAP, and the Chinese are not enlightened to this fault by those responsible for the hiatus including the brilliant Lee Kuan Yew with his 9 failed Policies for Singapore, their duties and responsibilities concerning the plight of the Chinese in terms of SAFETY AND LIVELIHOOD OF THE CHINESE IS THAT MUCH GREATER.

AS SHOWN THROUGHOUT THE WORLD, IT IS WHEN A GOVERNMENT IS PERCEIVED TO BE A NICE GUY, THE MICE COME OUT TO PLAY LIKE IN ANCIENT CHINA. In China, when the Emperor chops off a few heads like the Chinese Government today, the whole country would be at peace and harmony. History repeats itself.

  38. Assalamualaikum Tun.

    Surah Adh-Dhuha –

Dengan nama Allah, Yang Maha Pemurah, lagi Maha Mengasihani.

    Demi waktu dhuha,

Bukankah dia mendapati engkau yatim piatu, lalu la memberikan perlindungan?

    Adapun orang yang meminta (bantuan pimpinan) maka janganlah engkau tengking herdik;

    Terima kasih Tun.

  39. Tun

For dtan, HBT456, MNMN, saxykumar, yusof2012 etc. Since I appeared on this distinguished Blog I have been presenting the true facts about the brilliant Lee Kuan Yew with his 9 failed Policies for Singapore and Singapore. I have been accused of being obsessed by those who had been brainwashed by him. At the stroke of a flash, two events have been reported by http://www.tremeritus.com which cast Lee Kuan Yew and Singapore in an unfortunate light.

PLEASE TAKE NOT ALL OUR COMPATRIOTS THAT IT IS NOT FOR TUN AND MYSELF AND OURSELVES TO LAUGH AT THE MISFORTUNE OF OTHERS. WE WISH THESE UNFORTUNATE EVENTS DID NOT HAPPEN TO LEE KUAN YEW AND SINGAPORE. AND IN THIS CONTEXT WE WISH SINGAPORE WELL IN ALL ASPECTS.

    MAN PROPOSES. GOD DISPOSES.

  40. Tun

Specially for dtan the guy who shalom in yeshua’s name. Please read also http://www.tremeritus.com/ Moody downgrades 3 local banks – DBS, OCBC and UOB. since I believe you have a bank account in Singapore.

  41. Dear Tun DRM,

There has been too much political and governing act and plays juggle about around for personal and entity interest that always comes first, saving each and every respective individuals and their position.

They are era some survivor of a sort to such an ever wreaking juggling about power play and the old system of how a government ought to operate and kept the people guessing forever.

Then those appointed to work on such trade negotiating issues,, and other Perdana matters, they are all assumed well paid at the least to carry out their job without much hassle for the best interest of their respectif employers, during the premature state, the Government has operated on such grounds without much choice, cause no one really understands where the circumstantial of their actions, options and decisions may have lead them, the nation and its very people. Then resorting to have saving themselves first, or they may resigned earlier and let others to carry the burdensome, and be woke up latter to face it.

I was engaged to take up a very unique role, like without a very small other role, a cleaner or a guard, even a Gardener, the Perdana officials would be in mess, extorted and even robbed by its own created political syndicate to muscle power for their remaining in good standing position.

I understand that you have read my followups and my work are recognized from every level of the society and even Najib admitted to the JPM clerk that told me, and latter on the internet news that, The game that focuses on me has made government staff happy for many years, including the counter reacting mission post 911 inevitably to have been solves to an acceptable level. The British intelligences admitted the game they had organized for their media and subpoenas to run about from my childhood and certainly to their interest, not our nation or Islam our faith.

It is also not in the British interest to stop my salary or asking for delay, and if should Najib think he could politicizes it for the benefit of a more edging governance only over the poor, staying and directionless people. By all means to the British government and intelligences.

What is the benefit of doing so? the British can turn about latter to says Hey, actually our contractors started the Game that focus on you and have more grounds to blame about, and that may have some worth to the unworthy top governing people, and that’s why the delay and attempt to kill me and bury the whole game existences, and now you try to says to ignore everything can ne better, Najib once think before the GE13. Any how the genuine BN islamic supporter to loose, not the crooks, as they can use the even deficiting nation and still be able to squeezes out blood buying leniency from the grewing opposing optional s and made corrupted or defected justice workers, buying time and this nation sure to kept wreaking and be called up from their grave latter, and those supporting this plan. Chit the people first and also cheat my salary, you have verify the figures long ago, and also recommended 30, 40 or 50 or to take higher for damages and move with Jaws Town the only viable seems hope to such crippled disintegration of trust and handling due too many factors, i short cut it, premature state era….

  42. Tun

For dtan. All Agreements especially between Nations should have an escape Clause in case the Agreement was found not to be fair to one Party later. What you are saying is just splittinig hairs giving the impression that the 22 year Administration of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad knew nuts about working out the arithmetic as though only fellows like you know how to work out this rocket science arithmetic. Try harder next time. You are no long in the 20th century of dysfunctional meritocratic pyramid of Singapore.

  43. Tun

You brought up the subject of ‘Meritocracy’ recently and I wish to make some comments in support. The Oxford Dictionary defines ‘Meritocracy’ as ‘government or leadership by people of great merit’ or ‘a society governed by meritocracy’.
Right at the outset, I wish to point out that 2 Cabinet Ministers of the Singapore Government which many Malaysians claim to practise meritocracy, have announced this year, 2013, that in future promotions may not be necessarily entirely based on academic qualifications alone but hidden talents may be included. Is this the new insight of the Singapore Government since October 2008 after the Republic lost US$108 Billions in one night on Wall Street ?
Many Malaysians have pointed a finger for our Government and its agencies to follow the meritocracy as practised by Singapore eg. with the smartest fellow on top, Lee Kuan Yew and the rest stacked up below him accordingly in the fashion of a rigid pyramid. So far so good as long as there were no crises of the magnitude of a Kondratieff Wave. All was nice and rosy with the meritocratic ‘yes’ men crafting their ‘yes’ papers for the Boss’s approval. BUT THEN THE UNEXPECTED HAPPENED and from October 2008, it was all MAN PROPOSES AND GOD DISPOSES.

I am of the opinion that this meritocratic formula for delivery of the required goods or whatever is a fallacy. It was cunningly and slyly encouraged to put the smartest fellow on top forever and ever. At the end of the day, like all humankind, this system suffered from old age and infirmilty. How ? The deteriorating functions of our brains began at the age of 30 and the pace of deterioration depends on each individual’s physical attributes. In any society, or class or group of peoplem there is always the 1% which stands out above the throng. And if the basis of meritocracy is based on only in academic achievements at top world universities, the yawning gap between this 1% and the 99% is just like between the Earth and the Mars. It is insurmountable. Singapore sent many top students to the very best universities in the West but we do not see them surfacing at the top Government level after 2 generations. Those we noticed seemed to be over-achievers and over-decorated with military honours fought inside air-conditioned Board rooms, so to speak !
Take the case of the brilliant Lee Kuan Yew with his 9 failed Policies for Singapore over a life-time. He was absolutely brilliant with his Double Star First in Law at Cambridge immediately after the War in 1948 and he rode the wave of pre-eminent success right through to October 2008. Suddenly, the bread and butter type of brilliance lost its glow and the whole world of the top elites as we know them were just ordinary chaps who were all caught with their pants down. So embarassing ! To rub salt into the wound, these smartest chaps on Earth knew the cause of such a disaster AFTER THE EVENT. Why did they fail to visualize what was to come ?
The simple explanation was that it was a sense of deja vu mixed up with a huge dollop of human weakness or complacency. In the midst of the crisis of the century, all these chaps were busily bailing out each other to save themselves.
And as for the 22 year Administration of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, the success was in the ‘can do’ attitude of the leadership taking everything with a normal view of what could be done and what could not be done. Whatever lapses occurred , these maybe pin-pointed to administrative weaknesses. Even though at times, Malaysia wished it could be like Singapore before October 2008 and now with a beautiful hindsight, she became a runaway success in human terms unlike Singapore a runaway failure. And with Malaysia’s type of meritocracy, there is more for everyone including the 7 1/2 poor Singaporeans who became Malaysian multi-billionaires and are now back in Singapore to bump up the rich men’s quotient of the World for Singapore ! Meritocracy maybe shifted from place to place too !
The failure of Singapore’s Meritocratic Policy which was very costly to the Republic ended with the 2 Minister’s announcements of 2013. As always some Malaysian pundits with a secret agenda heaped tons of praises on the meritocratic pyramid with the smartest fellow on top which is now proved to be dysfunctional and bankrupt. These pundits should put their feet where their mouths are.

Withou much thought, these wise-cracks or Malaysian pundits who keep on pushing the meritocratic line a’la Singapore chose to ignore all the despotic or one ruler countries of the World. These were especially numerous during the Cold War. WERE THESE DESPOTIC COUNTRIES NOT RULED BY THE 1% MERITOCRATIC ELITE LIKE SINGAPORE ? And these adoring pundits did not look beyond Singapore to the United Kingdom and the United States as a comparison to compare like with like. If they did, they would have found that only Singapore practises the sort of dysfunctional meritocracy which she espoused !
AND IN 2013, AFTER HER HORRIFIC EXPERIENCE OF 2008, SINGAPORE TOO JOINED THE NORMAL THRONG OF NATIONS LIKE MALAYSIA.

This is meritocracy in its starkest form as practised by the Republic of Singapore pre 2013 – a failed policy for 2 generations.

  44. Tun,

Who you choose to come to the table makes a big difference as
to the Outcome of Agreements. Competencies in negotiations
are the result of having the right people at the table.

If you look at the Water Agreement with Singapore on macro
level. It is actually a win-win situation as is. It is true that 3 cents
per 1000 gallons raw water is a ridiculous price. So is 50 cents
for 1000 gallons of potable water. I know, i am involved in water
processing. My rough calculations show that. The cheapest you
can produce potable water is 1.09$ ringgit for 1000 gallons
production cost by US standards (Household RO Water Purifier),
A Scaled Water Treatment Plant infrastructure cost can run in the
hundreds of millions. Water Plants do not fix themselves. A typical
    plant will last 10years ( I commissioned the Automation on 3 WTP’s)
before the membranes, pumps and controls start to act
up. I work in the field and have first hand knowledge on how these
systems work. Singapore more than likely subsidizes the potable
water that is sold back to Johor by a much higher amount.

Why doesn’t Johor run its own Water Plant? Tun, because they
know they couldn’t possibly produce potable water for 50 cents
for a 1000 gallons. I guess the concern is that Singapore is getting
the 88% of raw water at a loss while not looking at the other side of
the coin, whereby Johor benefits from the 12% of potable water
it gets back. It is no lost to Johor unless Malaysia needs a portion
of 88% of the water it sends to Singapore or wants a greater price for
the total volume negating the 12% it gets back. If that is the case, than
you need to build competencies in Water Treatment Production
if you want to dictate the Raw Water price post contract negotiations. My
guess is, they do not want to ‘makan susah’. It is much easier for them to
pocket the infrastructure monies given to them.

Per the F/A-18, they should have signed a technology transfer
agreement with the US per contract. The US would have been obligated
to do one with the base model of the F/A -18. The likes of what the Indians
have done with the French Rafale. You can still use the fighters as defensive
weapons. I think they will outfight the MIG’s anyway. The mttf of the MIG
engines are very low and they leave a tell tale ‘heavy’ smoke trail in combat

Per Proton, barriers will fall, once you produce cars that meet local standards.
The Korean cars were once the butt of jokes. The talk today is ‘buy one while
you can afford one’ because they’ve caught up with the Japanese

    Shalom in Yeshua’s Name

  45. Asalam’kum Tun,

It goes to show the quality of the people we have in the government. Either they don’t care OR they are ignorant (maybe they have to go for an English crash course). Either is bad. As you may have notice the quality of the staff’s English is rather disappointing, how do you expect them to understand those jargons use by these international countries.
Why are there to laws to act on those who “sell” our country?
Who should be responsible – the minister in charge? OR the Top person?
Why isn’t this debated in Parliment? Guess no one is thoroughly expert in this?

Don’t they know that US has been trying all sorts of ways (including changing the names from APEC, etc) since many, many moons ago.

  46. Assallammualaikum Tun.
    Mohon ruangan.
    Tuan Haji Amin Tan.
[in actual combat the US Airforce has always proven to be more superior than those from the French or Russian made fighter bomber aircrafts]
In real war or air battle, it is only few documented ever actual fight between US Airforce and Russian Airforce.
Few scattered combat report mentioned this in Korean and Vietnam War.
Most fight between the two world superpower have been done by ‘proxies’ pilot.
This is also a ‘trade secret’.The world superpower would wants to maintain the hush hush halo..

Malayu kingdom was the first rival power centre absorbed into the empire, and thus began the domination of the region through trade and conquest in the 7th and 9th centuries. Malayu kingdom’s gold mines up in Batang Hari river hinterland were a crucial economic resource and may be the origin of the word Suvarnadvipa (island of gold), the Sanskrit name forSumatra.

The area of Chaiya, in Surat Thani Province, Thailand, was already inhabited in prehistoric times by Semang(Orang Asli) and Malayan tribes. Founded in the 3rd century, the Srivijaya kingdom dominated the Malay Peninsula and much of the island of Java from there until the 13th century. The city of Chaiya’s name may be derived from its original Malay name “Cahaya” (meaning ‘light’, ‘gleam’ or ‘glow’). However, some scholars believe that Chai-ya probably comes from Sri-vi-ja-ya. It was a regional capital in the Srivijaya empire of the 5th to 13th century. Some Thai historians argue it was the capital of Srivijaya itself, but this is generally discounted. Wiang Sa andPhunphin were other main settlements of that time……

    Thank you Tun

  50. Salam Tun, I have read your comments with great interest, but I think we have to be fair to ourselves especially with regard to new international trade. We need Americam market to export our product to assure our capital account and currency looke strong. After all international trade theory clearly stated that any import must be finance by export. Not only in term free movement of good but also the acessibility to new technology, networking, and above all is the ability to export more of our productto US due to their market size.
Malaysia Business man should not only focus on government procurement but the building of succesful business model that directly related to consumers. We cannot just be middle man to Foreign companies but more importantly to develop the product and services the can create more jobs to our population.Government procument breed corruption and rent seekers and unhappiness to genuine business man . We should move to new era. Tun have been in the international trade for long and I think Tun would agree with me that we have to look at alternative model to sustain our future development.

  52. 43. Well, it will definitely hurt the retail industry if bn government change the policies just to win votes as water might not well verse in economic and business issues in here.

  53. Tun

It is good, very good that you brought up the subject of TPP. It is good also I examine that without your 22 year Administration to bolster and enhance the tremendous political and socio-economic advance of our beloved Malaysia, we would all be in chains in a conquered land in this game of English Chess with the King in Singapore as being played since 1964.
IT IS OBVIOUS THAT WITHOUT YOUR 22 YEAR ADMINISTRATION OF OUR BELOVED MALAYSIA, OUR BELOVED COUNTRY WOULD HAVE BEEN EASILY CONQUERED BY WHITE-COLLAR TROOPS. How ? We can see with our own eyes and listen with our own ears since 2003 the audacious attempts to UNSEAT THE BN GOVERNMENT AS LED BY THE UMNO WITH THE 13 COMPONENT PARTIES. If you did not assume your Premiership in 1981, it is obvious to me and those who know the game that our beloved Malaysia would have been conquered.
IT IS TIME FOR ALL MALAYS, BUMIPUTRAS AND THE NON-MALAYS TO UNDERSTAND THE SIGNAL CONTRIBUTION OF YOUR 22 YEAR ADMINISTRATION TO DEFEND OUR BELOVED MALAYSIA’S FREEDOM, INTEGRITY AND INDEPENDENCE FOR ALL TIME. Hence, I have always stated that for the sake of peace and stability and harmony, all Malays should support the UMNO 100%. Historical precedents hold sway.
As you are aware I have brought forth the brilliant Lee Kuan Yew’s 9 Policies failures for Singapore. This is daring by any means. AND NOW I COMPARE WHY YOUR 22 YEAR ADMINISTRATION OF OUR BELOVED MALAYSIA IS A RUNAWAY SUCCESS IN HUMAN TERMS AND SINGAGPORE A RUNAWAY FAILURE.
I have noticed for a very long time that Lee Kuan Yew being the brilliant lawyer he is, did everything according to the book, according to whether it is black or white. He is very particular in dotting the i and crossing the t. He confirmed this by saying many a time,’ The Devil is in the details. This he stuck religiously to as a pukka lawyer. It is brilliant as a practicising lawyer but as a practicing politician he succeeded only in legalising all his Policies perfectly. AND WHEN HIS POLICIES BECAME FAILURES, THESE BECAME LEGALISED FAILURES as we can now see from this list of 9 Policy failures for Singapore. No compassion whatsoever was involved. It was truly black is black and white is white, all the way.

    1. The use of money as an investment instrument of Foreign Policy. Vide. Thaksin and the Bangkok riots.
    2. The loss of US$108 Billions of the citizens Trust money on Wall Street in October 2008
    3. The 2 child family Policy of the 1970s and the 1980s. Vide. Singapore Government White Paper on Population 2013.
    4. Humanity and Multiculturalism never practised.
    5. The perfunctory Judiciary which is well-known the World over.
    6. The importation of 5,000 pigs daily, the flower nurseries contracts, the King of the Road, the sale of Kim Eng Securities to Maybank.
    7. The highest salaries in the World for Singapore Government officials.
    8. The creation of the Singaporean Trojan Horse DAP in 1966 which did nothing for 47 long years for the Malays, the Chinese, the Indians and all. And now the DAP is now fire and fury.
    9. Lee Kuan Yew became the Prime Minister in 1959 and is still there. During this period, our beloved Malaysia has had 6 democratically elected Prime Ministers.

The brilliant Lee Kuan Yew executed the above Policies without a legal fault BUT IT WAS DONE WITHOUT COMPASSION AND CONSIDERATION FOR THE HUMAN FACTOR AND FEELINGS. These all failed in our lifetime.
AS FOR YOUR 22 YEAR ADMINISTRATION, TUN, AS A DOCTOR YOU HAD THE COMPASSION AND CONSIDERATION AND APPLIED THESE TO YOUR POLICIES. However, I could see that most of misdemeanors were carried out by your closest aides at the administrative levels and they should have warned you that certain things could not be done.

THE ABOVE FACTS PRESENT FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME WHY A BRILLIANT LAWYER FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF CAMBRIDGE FAILED MISERABLY AND A DOCTOR FROM THE FAMOUS KING EDWARD VII MEDICAL COLLEGE SUCCEEDED BRILLIANTLY FOR HIS BELOVED COUNTRY AND ITS PEOPLES. This leads naturally to the interesting subject of meritocracy.

  54. It is an absolute true on the PROTON story..
SAD to here this country is made for officials and politicians only… not for betterment of citizens. I would believe this is due our politicians are not emphasize on their own education back ground – wish the next election the candidates would at least a degree holder.

The unfavorable agreement towards our own nation is shame to the people. No wonder in Malay we called them, poliTIKUS… scared of cats.. Yet those who sign the agreement has no sense to care its own people.

If the country needs more budget, only then to implement the GST, giving all the promises and flowery stories on GST – in which the GST is unnecessary if the government or officials or politicians are efficient and competent enough!

If the Harimau Malaya loss any of it games, we blamed FAM, players and couches – least favorable AFRICAN countries had proved that the ball is round and they can make it to the world cup final.

Same thing here, if the officials or the politicians are not having sense in helping Malaysians itself, please…. just tender your resignation!

  55. Our capacity to re negotiate each of these deals is not altogether lost or legally diminished. Much of the negotiation in each of these deals was done with people who had already been compromised. Their instructions to equally incompetent lawyers to reduce their positions to written agreements were also a contributing factor to the one sided bargains struck by Malaysia’s government.

The arguments raised at the Pulau Batu Puteh negotiations in court were likewise grounded on a flawed presumption. Because Singapore could not have from time immemorial (or at least till recent times) in terms of antiquity have exercised sovereignty over the islands, Singapore itself having been from time immemorial an integral part of Malaya. Its claims therefore of recent import and a recent invention and fiction.

The F18/A issue is a case in point on sensitive trade issues where Malaysia has ended up with a raw deal. The F18/A is a dated aircraft. It has only been battle tested against armies and airforces without a tradition or the skills required to do battle in the air. The Arabs.

The air craft has limited manoeuvrability, was originally designed as a carrier launched weapon (which it is still primarily used as) has inherent design flaws and is not as flexible in the air as the MiG 29 and its successors from the Mikoyan and Sukhoi bureaus.

What needs to be done right now with or without government intercession is for a powerful enough citizen’s group like Perkasa to conduct its own inquiries aggressively and to do so with all the assistance and skills required to undertake a thorough investigation into these matters as occurs in all other civilized countries. There are individuals who were involved who had everything to gain from adopting an inferior position on Malaysia’s behalf in each of these negotiations.

The participants in such events, their backgrounds, their links to the other side and the drivers behind their decisions need to be investigated and there is sufficient material to go on to start with. It cannot be the job of the government. Government is weak and has demonstrated its weaknesses generally across the board ending up with such disasters in trade and in international relations.

The biggest fiasco of this government and its predecessor in office thus far, (that of the lame duck Badawi) is the failed re negotiation of the water supply agreements with Singapore. It is abundantly clear that a number of aspects of that agreement (a suite of them) were ignored or negotiated by a bunch of incompetent people, most likely Malaysian lawyers of a coterie of those who believe themselves to be possessed of an infallible intellect. There were people in cabinet and in the PM’s office who were compromised and acted from a weaker position at the start.

The issue now that you have raised these is “who will bell the cat?”. Who will take up the cudgels to remedy these flawed agreements and trade positions Malaysia has ‘locked’ itself into? It is not a lost cause and it can and must be remedied.

There are very high profile public international lawyers who have commented on the position of these agreements in the context of local and international law and the context of multi lateral and bi lateral agreements and have found them to be without any logical or philosophical grounding raising the same questions you raise here.

Will Perkasa demonstrate some intestinal fortitude and act or do we wait for another Mahathir which will not happen in this lifetime. Noticeably the Chinese and so called Christian youth have come out with their rabid comments to attack the messenger. But thats to be expected from lynch mobs.

  56. Dear Dr M, I would like to highlight one more issue, today i went shopping at “local wholesale hypermarket” in Subang Jaya. I’m suprised to see most of the “foreign worker” work as cashiers and other positions. I thought foreign workers are for construction, plantation and manufacturing sectors. But now, they are given opportunity to snatch the jobs which are meant for our people. The authorities should do they part and protect our local workers.

Maybe they should review on the intake of foreign workers and unemployment rate in Malaysia.

Your comment on the TPP is just like how Singapore had rode roughshod over us as and when they like especially the ill-advised political Grand Tour of the Opposition leaders by the brilliant Lee Kuan Yew with his 9 failed Policies for Singapore at the age of 86. His ill-advised trip raised my ire because it broke all traditional conventions in the conduct of proper behaviour between friendly nations.
I have been accused many a time on this distinguished Blog of beiing obsessed with him. But to me the brilliant Lee Kuan Yew with his failed 9 Policies for Singapore is as big as life in the Malaysian political firmament. To deny that he has nothing to do with the status of Malaysian politics today is nothing but a lie by those who are either his supporters or those fearful of him.
He signed on firmly and consciously for that ill-advised Grand Tour of the Ulus to congratulate the Opposition leaders whilst holding the position of Master Mentor of the Government of Singapore. How would he like it if a similar important personality from Malaysia do likewise to congratulate the Opposition figures of the Republic of Singapore ?
THIS SORT OF BEHAVIOUR BY A FOREIGN POLITICAL DIGNITARY TO CONGRATULATE AND BOLSTER UP ANOTHER COUNTRY’S OPPOSITION POLITICIANS MUST BE THE FIRST IN THE WORLD’S POLITICAL HISTORY !

OUR GOVERNMENT AT THAT MATERIAL TIME DID NOT EVEN DARE TO SEND OUT A NOTE OF PROTEST AT THIS WANTON INTERFERENCE OF OUR DOMESTIC POLITICS – THIS SHOWS HOW WEAK AND LOW IN ESTEEM THAT OUR BELOVED COUNTRY AND ITS GOVERNMENT HAS FALLEN IN ESTEEM IN THE EYES OF THE BRILLIANT LEE KUAN YEW WITH HIS 9 FAILED POLICIES FOR SINGAPORE. Just in case the Bloggers are not aware of what he did which was brash and brazen. He visited all the key Opposition figures which was shown on pictures with him beaming away at the propect of an imminent downfall of the BN Government no doubt. And with the BN people, he only had tea out of fine bone china porcelain with a distinguished lady in her salon.
NOT A SINGLE WORTHY CITIZEN RAISED A PROTEST OR COMPLAINT EVEN THOUGH THIS ILL-MANNERED POLITICAL TOUR WAS SPLASHED IN ALL THE MEDIA ESPECIALLY THE CHINESE MEDIA. Where were the worthy GLCs who are so adapt at mounting giant demonstrations for midget issues ?

SEE HOW BRAINWASHED MOST OF THE CITIZENS OF OUR BELOVED MALAYSIA ARE TO THEIR OWN DISADVANTAGED AND YET THEIR MINDS SEEMED TO BE NUMB TO FEEL OR OBSERVE INSULTS TO THEIR VERY OWN SELF-ESTEEM.

SINCE MY MOST FELLOW CITIZENS WERE SO TIMID AS NOT TO OBSERVE THIS GROSS INSULT TO OUR SOVEREIGNTY, NATIONAL INTEREST, SELF-ESTEEM, GOD STEPPED IN AND AFTER OCTOBER 2008, THE WEALTHY MOUNTAIN ON WHICH THE BRILLIANT LEE KUAN YEW WITH HIS 9 FAILED POLICIES FOR SINGAPORE COLLAPSED and all what Singapore achieved in the past disappeared of all places in Wall Street.

THIS IS WHY NOW I SAY MALAYSIA IS A RUNAWAY SUCCESS IN HUMAN TERMS AND SINGAPORE A FAILURE AS A STATE.

    MAN PROPOSES. GOD DISPOSES.

  58. Dear Tun…
Seems reasonable that TPP can be considered as a form of fine needle aspiration … designed based on Prey-Predator principle whereby HOT nation gradually osmosised LOT nation. It may be interpreted as an attempt to overcome the inevitable treat facing the US dollar … may be in danger of losing its status as the primary reserve currency of the world. The Malaysian negotiators need to digest this issue from various perspectives…applying CAF consider all factors…putting on HOT caps…applying OPV other people views before coming up with decision. A clear well guided SOP have to be designed … Expert System model of decision making need to be employed. Then only we can avoid unnecessarily experiencing Nation At Risk.

  59. It would not be an exaggeration to say the Pacific rim is a series of islands of peoples. The ocean is wide, rich, deep, ancient and swell, so there has been little attempt in our times to harness it. So the TPP would be the better and stronger for it if China and Korea made members too. Having Russia in the TPP would be a game-changer.

It appears the agreement drafts and negotiations are secret with an eye on the PRC. Such a limited view of the Pacific is bound to put the graceful whales such as Brunei, Malaysia and the Philippines at risk of getting harpooned and beached.

There is never any international negotiation which can proceed on an agreement of absolute secrecy. While the clauses and agreements may be kept secret during the negotiations for any variety of reasons, the usual expectation and assumption would be that the member parties would engage their electorate in tangential ways to build the buy-in and get feedback on the issues being negotiated.

The Malaysian democratic government has no ability to agree to any absolute secrecy. However it’s likely the case that the government lacks the state and interior skills necessary to engage with citizens. Coming from a foreigner this is not to suggest that your country lacks statesmen and women but just that they don’t seem to be making the headlines.

    42. You really cant accept yourself as Chinese, therefore, you are in self denials, and your world is a hell because you must hate Chinese to make yourself more Muslim than the Malays, sigh….

  61. 34. Amin Tan, Islam is made so ugly by people like you.

When our beloved Malaysia was under your 22 year Administration which understood and did not forget the meaning of the 3 Golden Words ‘ Sovereignty, National Interes, Self-Esteem ‘, no nation dared take advantage of us. But the moment these 3 Golden Words and the Golden Key to rule over us with an iron pyramid was lost, territories and money were just given away at our disadvantage. I remember how the shares of TNB were sold by the billions of ringgits and the next moment these were bought back from the same party for billions of ringgits. The Federal Government has never been a commercial trading house where buying and selling takes place everyday. The Federal Government during your 22 year Administration was definitely not like this with so much buying and selling sometimes with no valuation also. Maybe it is appropriate at the present time why I brought up the facts on the brilliant Lee Kuan Yew with his 9 failed Policies for Singapore and Singapore since 1964. Some Bloggers have accused me of being obsessed with these most interested parties in the internal affairs of our beloved Malaysia especially where money could be sucked out easily. It is a two pronged approach for efficiency sake.

    1. On the Official side, (i) the gift of all the software of MSA to Singapore in 1971. The 3 wise men who negotiated the free gift deal raised the ire of the late Tun Dr Ismail. (ii) the joint Malaysia-Singapore Stock Exchange known as the CLOB. This serves as a most efficient money sucking Hoover which works in a cyclical way as dictated by an organised and efficient rival. There were horrendous crashes before the Clob was closed down in 2000. Since then, there has been no crashes since 2000 – 14 years ago.
    3. Administrative misdemeanours from ancient times like smuggling etc.
    4. 7 1/2 muliti-billionaires came from the ranks of poor Singaporeans who made good during the NEP. They are now all back in Singapore.
    5. Many many more.

From 1972 to 2013, the Malaysian ringgit depreciated to RM2.40 to S$1.00 when it was at parity from the beginning. This partially illustrates the siphoning off of the Malaysian Ringgits off-shore or to Singapore.

The politics of our beloved Malaysia is closely intertwined with this artificial symbiosis which has never to Malaysia advantage from the very first day especially after so many years, Singapore could cull the Pulau Batu Putih from Malaysia and published a book to boast about their ‘achievement’ which I take it as ‘it takes two to tango’. If Malaysia did not go to the International Court of Justice in such a hurry, we could still claime we own the Pulau Batu Putih now.
However, all these happy events came to a surprising end after October 2008. But just before this, the brilliant Lee Kuan Yew with his failed 9 Policies for Singapore signed on of his obsession in a conquered Malaysia by making a Grand Tour of the Oppostion in April 2008 which even his ranking PAPs and family eschewed. This firmly confirmed his position as the King in the English Chess game which began in 1964. No one can now deny that he is not a benign Santa Claus or a Greek bearing gifts – the trouble making Singaporean Trojan Horse DAP as founded by Lee Kuan Yew indirectly or directly reminds us of him everyday. But all of a sudden the mountain on which the brilliant Lee Kuan Yew with his 9 failed Policies for Singapore disappeared overnight after October 2008 – and they are now scrambling to shore up all the fallen pieces somewhat like the little Dutch boy shoring up the bursting dyke with his little finger.

    Man proposes. God disposes.

  67. Dear Tun,

Your posting on TPP is conscience pricking and provokes patriotism of loyal citizens. Any nation would be sensible to work and labour for their national self interest and self need.

However, in economic theory, free international trade is better than no trade at all. This is based on the theory of comparative advantage and specialisation. Many advantages of international trade are access to many goods that are otherwise not available. It is good for Malaysia to possess advanced technology of modern fighter planes like F18 as used by US navy and fighter planes F15 and F16 and the radar system of AWAC. Of course it is ridiculous to buy a French submarine that cannot submerge and a F18 aircraft that cannot fire a missile. Generally speaking, in actual combat the US Airforce has always proven to be more superior than those from the French or Russian made fighter bomber aircrafts.

Of course it is not tenable to have incompetent and corrupted trade negotiators as depicted in Tun’s posting pertaining to Malaysia water agreement with Singapore.

  68. Tun,

Assalamualaikum, looks like we don’t need Anwar and the lot to destroy our country. It comes from within. Why do we employ all these shallow minded idiots to deal with these matters? These people are those who can only think for the next two three years instead of the next two three hundred years. Why are we so compelled to please the Singaporeans and the Americans? Well maybe they are the superpower/ “superfinancial’ etc. Why so afraid? History has proven when you alone stood against them, we still retain our sovereignty. Despite my dislike against Singapore, I doubt that they will start a war against us. What is the point of development but it’s only yours to see….

  69. Dearest YAB Tun,

    1. Agree – ‘trade NEGOTIATIONS’ must NOT be done secretly.

    2. I hope our leaders/Ministers (especially our PM) learn from past EXPERIENCES, and also learn from MISTAKES.

    3. Actually, we just need to see what the Opposition leaders’ reaction/feedback on TPP. If they do NOT hold any demonstrations against it, then it is safe to conclude that it is NOT good for Malaysia.

What is the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPP)?

The Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) is a secretive, multi-national trade agreement that threatens to extend restrictive intellectual property (IP) laws across the globe and rewrite international rules on its enforcement. The main problems are two-fold:

    (1) IP chapter: Leaked draft texts of the agreement show that the IP chapter would have extensive negative ramifications for users’ freedom of speech, right to privacy and due process, and hinder peoples’ abilities to innovate.

    (2) Lack of transparency: The entire process has shut out multi-stakeholder participation and is shrouded in secrecy.

The twelve nations currently negotiating the TPP are the US, Japan, Australia, Peru, Malaysia, Vietnam, New Zealand, Chile, Singapore, Canada, Mexico, and Brunei Darussalam. The TPP contains a chapter on intellectual property covering copyright, trademarks, patents and perhaps, geographical indications. Since the draft text of the agreement has never been offically released to the public, we know from leaked documents, such as the February 2011 draft US TPP IP Rights Chapter [PDF], that US negotiators are pushing for the adoption of copyright measures far more restrictive than currently required by international treaties, including the controversial Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA).

My favourite American President Harry S. Truman once said,’ The buck stops at my desk !’
He was my favourite not because he dropped 2 atomic bombs on the Japanese but he was a homey sort of person even with the super powers under his command.
Minor officials in the Federal Government are precisely what they are – minor functionaries. Some years ago, it was alleged that Malaysia lost out to India concerning the palm oil tariff under similar circumstances. And you brought up the lost of Pulau Batu Putih to Singapore in a jiffy when your 22 year Administration did not rush to the International Court of Justice to cede even one square inch of Malaysian territory. As I said before maybe the schools teach the students the 3 words, ‘SOVEREIGNTY, NATIONAL INTEREST, SELF-ESTEEM’. MAYBE EVEN CIVIL SERVANTS AND SENIOR GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS SHOULD KNOW THE MEANING OF THESE 3 GOLDEN WORDS for a Nation. IF WE ARE NOT CAREFUL, WE MIGHT BE INVOLVED IN SELLING OUR HAPLESS GRANDMOTHERS DOWNSTREAM.

After 2003, it seems to me that some officials with power can do anything they like without due consideration to the 3 Golden Words as well as standards, propriety, morality and ethics. These are all important virtues of a NORMAL GOVERNMENT ADMINISTRATION anywhere in the World.

  71. Salam Tun and others,

The minister, KSU are responsible. Punish them for their stupid actions.

  72. Dear Tun,

    1. I agree Tun.

    2. Why a secret? It involves all of us. Lets make sure it is a win-win situation together. Transparency please.

    3. Shouldn’t these things be debated in the parliament?

    4. Have a blessing ramadhan Tun.
