1. We know that we must all leave this life one day. But knowing the inevitabilty of death cannot stop us from grieving over the passage of a great man, no matter how long he may have lived.
2. As a nationalist, as a friend, as a compatriot, I feel saddened by the passage from this life of Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu.
3. Except for Tun Razak, Tun Lim contributed most to the formation of the National Front, the coalition which succeeded the Alliance, ruled and developed Malaysia until today. He responded postively to the proposal by Tun Razak to rejoin the coalition for the good of Malaysia. He rose above many of the grievances which had led him to leave the MCA, to become a junior partner even though he had been victorious. He was content to be just a Chief Minister of Penang.
4.It was as a Chief Minister that he made Foreign Direct Investment a by-word in Malaysia and perhaps in the world. He brought the first foreign investments in electronics to Penang. It was the best thing for overcoming unemploymnet which had plagued Malaysia till then.
5. It was he who made the Penang the centre for the transformation of Malaysia into an industrial nation. Towards this end he was tireless, almost single-handedly contacting and persuading foreign industrialists to invest in the new electronics industry. So successfull was he that very quickly Penang was short of workers and other states benefitted from his effort at creating employment.
6. I worked closely with Tun Lim and always found him open to proposals on the development of Penang and Malaysia. When he lost in the 1990 elections, it came as a shock to me. I had thought that the people of Penang would remember his services and overcome partisan sentiments. But I suppose I was hoping for far too much.
7. Malaysia, and I dare say Penang, has lost a great leader with the passing away of Tun Dr Lim Ching Eu.
8. I offer my condolences to Toh Puan Goh Sing Yeng and all the members of Tun Lim’s family.
Rest in Peace.
Assalamualaikum Tun,
This posting should be a lesson to UMNO… that developments and politics do not necessarily be intertwined, or augurs well. The reason for me to come to such a conclusion is that UMNO, all this while, has been expressing too much on development. Of course, with the hope that the people would continuosly support and vote for them.
No… the people has something else in their mind. The people asked for developments, does not necessarily means that they would succumb to the givers, but will also means that they will manipulate things in accordance with their interest, especially politics.
Right now, the immigrants are shedding their coats of looking for jobs, for greener pastures, or even for a better life. They want to stay forever, and they are working for it aggressively.
Singapore is their icon.
This goes to show only BN leaders can lead the country without fear nor favor nor prejudice. Late Tun Lim prefered to stay in the coalition because he believed in the ideals of BN.
As for Lim Guan Eng, he can stick to his principles or whatever crap he and his fanboys may call it. After some time, people will just forget him altogether. Just ignore this man.
Salam,
Tun Lim mengucap terima kasih atas jemputan tetapi menolaknya dengan memberi alasan, “I am too old to give a talk”.
As a true gentleman and a statesman, YABhg Tun ACCEPTED our invitation to attend the function, as a NORMAL GUEST not a VIP.
Selamat tinggal Yang Amat Berbahagia Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu.

So who is greater, Tun Dr Lim or Saudara Lim?
Tun Dr Lim a symbol of tolerance, non-chauvanistic, non-racist chinese leader. But the chinese doesn’t think he’s chinese enough. Then The chinese vote him out in 1990 and vote in the another Lim, whom we all know is intolerance, chauvinist and racist leader. Now, the hypocrite chinese dan DAP members now speak highly of Tun Dr.Lim. Hypocrite Lim Kit Siang and Lim Guan Eng.
So who is greater, Tun Dr Lim or Saudara Lim????
OF COURSE TUN DR LIM !!!.
Assalamu Alaikum Tun,
To ecompute..
Awak ni tak habis-habis nak berpolitik.. saat keluarga Tun Lim bersedihpun awak masih nak berpolitik. Cuba fikir jika Tun Lim itu ayah awak, kemudian orang lain pertikai jasanya yang cukup banyak, awak rasa macam mana..awak ni memang gila kuasa..sanggup hilang rasa kemanusiaan dan pertimbangan rasional kerana kuasa. Awak ni memang opportunist..materialistic, kalau oran seperti awak berkuasa, binasa dan huru-hara negara ni sebab penyakit kroni akan berleluasa..adik beradik hang saja hang beri keistimewaan..rakyat hang tak ambil peduli..saya tak tahu siapa hang sebenar..tapi saya berani kata hang tak patut pertikai sumbangan Tun Dr Lim kepada negara..siapa hang nak pertikai..?
Dearest Tun,
I can’t express my opinion and words better than Bingo. Well said. Bingo had said it all perfectly.
Same opinion as mine….
“People would not remember all the positive things you brought, but once you did something wrong, people would punish you forever.”
“Unfortunately, none of us know the good work that you and The Late Tun has done…”
“The good work is always come from the person that we like, if the good work was done by someone that we dont like was considered not a good work or will forget just like that”
Peoples are becoming far too selfish over the years and choose to follow their hearts… They never mirror themselves before passing judges to others. They never satisfy and instead find the joy in blaming others. Beside selfish, jealousy is also one of the main reason.
Agreed 101% with Bingo again… on the statement.., “whatever people will say, you and The Late Tun Dr. Lim Chong Eu is the man who trully love our country.”
One thing Tun should always bear in mind, there’s still a lot of rakyat like us out there regardless of our race that still and will always support, remember and love you and Tun Lim.
Condolences to Tun Dr Lim & family and may he rest in peace. He will be remembered and remain in our hearts forever.
Last but not least, I would also like to take this oppurtunity to wish Tun all the best of health and best in everything…
I offer my condolences to Toh Puan Goh Sing Yeng and all the members of Tun Lim’s family.
The difference between Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu and saudara Lim Kit Siang is, the former was a doer & an achiever, while the latter, is a just a complainant & a talker.
As an employee who works in the Penang FTZ, I am very grateful to what Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu had initiated. As to saudara Lim Kit Siang? I still can’t relate his contribution to my better living.
May Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu rest in peace.
Salam Tun,

Yes, you were hoping for far too much and… well, nothing to be shocked about. Not winning the elections doesn’t imply that people have forgotten about him.
Winston Churchill was First Lord of the Admiralty against the mighty Axis upon the outbreak of World War II in 1939, and became Prime Minister of Great Britain in 1940. How come then did he become the Leader of the Opposition in 1945? Didn’t Britain won the war? Yes, Britishers still remember Winston Churchill. And if Tun’s logic is to go by, then we don’t even need elections because it would just be an eye wash. Just say “don’t forget that I have contributed so much before” is enough, so why spend public funds at all?
Having said that, I think that the Titan of Malaysian democracy is still Lim Kit Siang, even though I have not voted before. Like Tun Dr. Lim Chong Eu, he could also have jumped onto the BN bandwagon and gotten himself a minister post and lead a life of comfort and luxury, not only for himself but also for his wife and children. But no, he rather stick to his ideals and principles and go to Kamunting, not once but twice. By the way, just in case Tun forgets, “Islam has laid down the principle that no citizen can be imprisoned unless his guilt has been proven in an open court. To arrest a man only on the basis of suspicion and to throw him into a prison without proper court proceedings and without providing him a reasonable opportunity to produce his defense is not permissible in Islam.” Quoted from http://www.ilaam.net/Brochures/Brochure-07.html
Yes, Lim Kit Siang has spend an entire political life, with no personal gain to date, only liabilities… not even a P.P.M., not to mention a datukship. But he slogs on, nonetheless. So who is greater, Tun Dr Lim or Saudara Lim?
Yet, for each passing, we must express our condolences. Sooner or later, we will all have to answer to God for our brief sojourn on this tiny speck of dust in the universe and its God’s judgment, rather than humans, that in the end, is more valuable.
Tun Mahathir,
Condolences to the family of the late Tun Dr. Lim. May he rest in peace.
Salam tun…
3) Inilah rasionalnya mata pelajaran sejarah malaysia wajib menjadi subjek wajib lulus didalam SPM.
Renung-renungkan lah….
My condolences to the family… RIP, Great Stateman.
Salam Tun,
1. Yes I knew all along that he was a great leader with a good track record and clean from corruption. We have lost such an icon in a political leadership.
2. I hope the main media will have some tribute on him and his achievement. My deepest condolences to the family of the late Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu.

Thank you again Tun for enlightening us with his contributions. Seems like history lessons in school could never cover all of our great leaders contributions. Condolences for us as we lost a true Malaysian and a great leader. RIP.
Just got to know about this from your blog, great loss for Malaysia. If I was not mistaken, he was the one who built KOMTAR is it not?

Tun Dr.Lim,
Is the best ever so far, that God-sent for Penang.
He had a vision, way beyong the leaders during his time. While many still thinking of rubber, tobacco, cocoa, palm oil and tin.
He look beyond the agriculture direction bring forth INTEL, HP(now AGILENT), MOTOROLA, SEAGATE, HITACHI(now Renesas), Siemens(now Osram), and more.
This spurs growth to Logistics/Shipping/Airline/Banking.
Which further spurs Housing/Utilities/Infrastructures.
He gave Penang, the Penang Bridge/Komtar/FIZ/FTZ and Tanjung Bungah tourist belt.
He has never been tainted of any scandals or greed for any titles.
As a Penangite I/WE owe TUN LIM the life that Penang has today, which springs so many followers like Kulim Hitech part/Shah Alam Industrial Zone/Cyberjaya and more.
More truth, he will not subdue to crowd/physical politics which is norm nowadays, which alway stated we are biggest you must follow.
Penang was so much Transform when bigger states like Kedah & Perak we still today much or less an agriculture base income.
We shall never forget what Tun Lim has laid down in Penang. We will strive for Penang to be Most Developed state again, with another Mr.Lim leading it.
Goodbye Tun Lim.
Dear Tun,
I do not know whether the people of Penang would remember him or not. People would not remember all the positive things you brough, but once you did something wrong, people would punish you forever. This is the thing that I could elaborate about The Late Tun Dr. Lim Chong Eu, I know you know him very well and how his performed as a minister during your premiership, in fact as the PM of Malaysia who should know about it. Unfortunately, none of us know the good work that you and The Late Tun has done, intentionally or not, I dont know. The good work is always come from the person that we like, if the good work was done by someone that we dont like was considered not a good work or will forget just like that. To me whatever people will say, you and The Late Tun Dr. Lim Chong Eu is the man who trully love our country.
Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to offer my condolence to Toh Puan Goh Sing Yeng and all the members of Tun Lim’s family. My he rest in peace.
Condolence to Dr. Lim’s family.
Salam kepada Tun dan para bloggers,

semoga diberkati Allah. AMIN…
Salam YABhg. Tun,
Thank you Tun for another history lesson for the younger generation like me.
I am ashamed to say that before this, I know very-very little about the late Tun Dr. Lim and his contribution to Penang and Malaysia in general.
I will strive harder to learn more about our country’s history and the men and women who made Malaysia what it is today; a magnificent country and internationally known all over the world.
I share your grief in the passing of Tun Dr. Lim and I too would like to offer my condolences to the family of the late Tun Dr. Lim.
